Try to understand the form you are drawing, what pops out and what sinks in. Once you understand that you will be able to light your character designs with confidence. Try breaking your designs down to basic shapes and then add demision. Polish and tighten drawing after that. Commit what you do from your life studies to memory. If you don't remember what something looks like and can't remember pull reference and or do more studies, so you can know what it looks like especially in certain lighting situations. If you have to draw what you don't know over and over again to commit it to memory. I can draw horse decent but ask me to do a giraffe, I would be stuck and not know because I haven't drawn a damn giraffe, never. Your doing good dude. Keep at it; I want to see alot more studies. XD

Real nice man, real nice - I like the energy in these last two. Think you should keep working with that attitude when you do watercolours.
As Dan said, try to vary the time spent on pics.
Also do you have photoshop? I've never seen you use it, but if you have access to it you can beef up how your pictures look when you post them. Just give me a shout and I'll show you bro.

Dude, there's a lot of crazy line confidence going on up in this one. Killer. Also, weird. This new one, too. Looks really good. That tiger is no match for her enormous caboose.
Keep bangin at the watercolors, spend more time working up the picture as a whole before rendering out specific information like eyes and mouths and stuff.
Great work man, you're a busy bastard!
April 1st, 2007 #279
damn!~! sorry for missing all these awesome updates! your pencils are definitely improving, altho i would like to remind you about line quality in the more rendered ones
also i really like this, i dunno if its sorta the unfinished look to it or what..but the whole piece looks really foggy and atmospheric...its like you stopped at the perfect point to achieve it.....
anyways again sorry for not commenting here as much as i should have...keep up the hard work!

Great progress . lines look good and comfident.

hot damn dude you're improving fast! last buncha watercolours are absolutely great man, and the pencils are coming along quick. In terms of crits I would say watch your masses and be more adventurous with your colour.
But overall I am really really impressed, proud of you bruthar!

IS this art or porn
Hey brendan, man its cool that you liked my stuff.DOnt worry , I was restrciting myself for some reason with watercolors but I will try to play more with it.
FIrst of all a watercolor study
Okay this time I ahve got an issue. Please , please let me know what you think about ....
the peice I am gonna show here.
what do you think about this piece it created a furore in my home, my dad found it in my sketchbook and claimed that this is pornography and not art. he tre id off the sb. I hated that, but I myself dont consider it porn.
SO my question is do you?
I really want to have some opinions about this one. I am also gonna post it in the lounge and get some replies.

Hey Bhanu, really liking your progess man, love the anatomy studies, their really showing through in your figurative work. Love your experiments with color, this is how we learn, keep it coming man.
About your question, well I think the drawing is a bit racey, Its not that shes naked or course, its just her actions. It seems to me that shes playing with her private area. Think about a model posing like that? Do you think it would be appropriate for a studio workshop setting. Most likely not in my opinion. But again thats just my 2 cents.
Keep working hard mate, Cheers.

Nice update(s)..Really can see some progress with the watercolor stuffs now. :3 I really liked this one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1175672145
And yeah, sucks to hear about that so said porno fiasco. Keep drawing whatever you please, as long as it means learning something new. >
April 4th, 2007 #289
hey dude post 289 was awesome! great pencils and watercolours! i'm impressed with how well you get a sense os light in your watercolours as that seems like something that would be quite challenging.... i have never really done any water colours
anyway, about your question, if you drew it and you were thinking... "la lala lala la i'm drawing pornography" then i guess it should generally be considered pornography as thats what the artists intentions were. but as you say thats not what you were thinking... so as far as i'm concerned that means its not pornography. i would say its somewhat pornographic, but theres a difference... at least i'd say there is.....
heres the dictionary definition of pornography....
"printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings."
PS: sock rocking , nice stuff
April 8th, 2007 #290
Lovely watercolour study, you're really getting the hang of working with water colours.
As for the so-called porn drawing - I've already posted my thoughts on it in your lounge thread, so no I don't think it's porn because you didn't draw it with that intention and I don't interpret it that way.
But do not let anyone discourage you my friend - you draw what you want when you want, and absolutely no one is allowed to tell you otherwise: not even your parents, I'm afraid. Free speech is in my humble opinion our birthright. Feel free to exercise it.
See you round my friend, keep posting.
April 8th, 2007 #291
Fuck, your title drew me in!
I like porn and I like art so I don't really understand that question. Your stuff, though are drawings and very nice ones at that. Lots of creativity going on here, I like it. Your watercolors in #289 are stunning!
Very nice activity going on here, I'm going to stop by some more in the future

Thanks for teh comments guys,
darktwin-hey man ncie to see you here. will be posting more studies for crits and eyah experimenting is fun. Thanks so much for the opinion man. really appreciate the words.
SIrio_brozzi- thanks for the words , teh crits and the support man. Hmm now I am waiting for your updates. actually lighting is the strength of watercolors.
Glad you liked the painting.
Kronos- thanks for the comment. I agree wholeheartedly with you on the porno thingie, if intentions arent there then perhaps it isnt porn.
BRendan-MAn its so cool to see you here. Thanks for the support . yeah freedom is birthright , I agree .So I go to do porn.....ooops I mean art. hehe.
Faust- thanks for dropping by man , appreciate it.
Updates , beena bit busy lately. roaming the city visiting places, actually taking my cousins to museums and zoos and all. Man its gettign hot and going out takes a lot out of you , couldnt do much more than sketches . but I am happy that I managed to do something everyday.
sketches from the zoo
some sketches for a story that came into my mind.lets see where it leads.
April 9th, 2007 #293
Nice linework in the zoo studies man. Active, energetic and not too finicky.
Watercolours are getting better with each update - haven't really done any work with water colour, so I'm not sure on how to crit these. Perhaps be less concerned with detail and more with shadow/light patches.
Keep art'n man, you've been making solid progress these last couple o' weeks.
April 15th, 2007 #294
thanks for the word brendan,
wetn to the historic museum cool stuff
me doing some sketches
a sketch at the cafeteria
a thumbnailiy comic page

on a quick scroll through what I see is beatiuful controll of line and contour. little or no control of composition and value. you need to consider how your drawing is sitting or composed within the framework of the page. and especially when you are working in color you lose any value composition you might have had..its easy to do. .
the anatomy is usaully pretty good but the lack of control of the media is hurting you
your line contour )(meaning building the for m with lines) is at times really nice
more work .. and you might want to slow down and tak elittle more time with it
To see the world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wildflower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour.
April 15th, 2007 #296on a quick scroll through what I see is beatiuful controll of line and contour. little or no control of composition and value
That being said, holy fuck you're improving like a madman. I really like your "porn" picture, the girls' expression has quite a charm to it
Keep it up mate. I'll have a real critique for you someday.
April 15th, 2007 #297
I'll have to agree with the ladies. Your linework is really coming along and you've stepped your game quite a bit. But I think it's time to do some more complete studies again, appreciate the from. Even when doodling, pick an area and start shading it. It'll help with both understanding forms and composing. Once you start shasing, you'll automatically start thinking about composition.
Keep grinding the lead my friend, you're doing fine!
April 15th, 2007 #298
Bhanu, nice to see you in the flesh :3 Well those museum studies turned out pretty good, I know what its like to be drawing stuff with little time to spare wanting to get to the next good thing, they come out as merely sketches. But its good practice nonetheless. Keep it up yo.
April 17th, 2007 #299
thanks for the comments guys,
WIll have to work more on my values and tones.I suck at them ..and how
