    Character & Environment Designs-Update Feb 21, 2008

Thought I'd dump in some more.
The first image was a practice character design.
I wanted something creepy and I find that insects are pretty creepy so I borrowed some elements.
body inspired by flea, spikes based on rhino beetle.

The second character , also a practice piece from the Silent Hill school of creatures.

The third character was an old zombie illustration which I revamped recently.

The fourth was Inspired mainly by WWII bomber nose art and a bit if retro sci-fi.

    nice design, rendering and coloring!

    crits:
    - the back leg hits the background arm in a tangent, not so good...
    - the foreground arm is set parallely to the foreleg.
    - some structure, light/shadow on the legs would help read the whole body.

I like, nice rendering and I love the two shoulder horns. Thumbs up.

EDIT: Oh, it's Painter? What tools did you use? Oils?

THanks everyone (thanks for the tips Fozzy!)

    Jabo, yes mostly oils.

I used modified round oils, feathery oils (I changed the name of the brush...I don't remember what it was originally called), spattery airbrush, and digital airbrush.

these look great man! I like the sculptural feel everything has...very solid looking. Love the hair on the arms of the first guy. You could try playing up the textures...gritty versus clean, dry vs wet, that kind of thing. There is a very slight plasticy feel that I think you can get rid of just by breaking up the specular highlights a bit more.
