Things you learn, then forget about drawing

I'd like to hear of any basic ideas you all keep in your head while you're doing a successful drawing. I find too often when I'm in a slump its mainly because I've forgotten some basic ideas about drawing.

it seems like 2 of the most basic I keep forgetting while I draw:

    1) staying loose
    2) drawing in space/ establishing & following planes, form and structure

some more minor ideas that still help me from time to time before I draw:

-having kinetic and emotional empathy with your figures (i.e. visualize an exxagerated version of yourself preforming the expression/ pose)

-having an idea/visualization/story in mind before you draw, even if its not exactly what comes out

    - exaggerating in general ( Ive found when I try to exaggerate just slightly I end up noticing more information about the planes and form Im drawing)

-working small & overall to large and specific, abstractly to concrete

of course its overwhelming to think about all these things at once. What I would like to hear are some of the most important things you all think about (or dont think about) during and before the drawing process

i agree with you there. When i try i forget the important things, however when im a mood, angry or upset and i draw it turns out good. :p (im weird, lol)
Nearly every time i draw i never think of a background or story so it never turns out good which is why im useless at scenes.

when i doodle without thinking i mostly end up forgetting about placing my figures in perspective or space. this happens very often when i have a spontaneous idea pop up in my head and i want to get it down as fast as possible. (f.ex. on the weekly activities).
good ideas you're presenting there, esp. with the exaggerated self-image.

    Always think about:
    lighting! design! perspective! proportion!
    And (self)motivation is still everything.
