Haha I second how theGnoll put it...as long as you have direction don't stop! I feel like I need to figure out 'why' I'm working on the subjects and types of studies I am doing without a very clear plan of action...however I'm just glad to see progress and adding versatility.

I look forward to more of those nice landscape studies, smart choice to learn color and techniques. Think about adding a second pass with the edges, blurring out some that don't need to be as sharp and you should find a better place for your eye to rest in them. Good luck bud!

I have some thoughts regarding the last piece. First of all, the lighting is inconsistent. I really can't tell exactly were the lightsource is. What I like to do is to mark the lightsource on the canvas (with a line down to the groundplane) so I can easier calculate the correct value of the surface.it works best when dealing with architecture etc. but if you divide the body into basic shapes, it shouldn't be too hard to do. I can't stress enough how important it is to place the core shadow correctly. The core shadow will be where the light(rays) is/are tangent with the surface/plane.

A little quick paintover to illustrate some of my ideas. It's not perfect and I will leave it up to you to tell whether it's helpful or not:

Secondly, I think you should really push the values a lot more. Especially close to the focus area. The legs are also very short, but that's a designmatter, so I won't say it's directly incorrect.

The chest looks rather flat. I don't know if this was intentionally or a result of not being able to find the correct value corresponding to the lightsource. So I suggest you practice rendering basic shapes in different lighting-scenarios, and maybe checking up scott robertsons' DVDs on rendering matte surfaces. I found them really helpful.

I've come up with a lot of harsh critique, but I hope you take as me trying to help rather than making you feel bad. That said, I'm really looking forward to see how you will develop/improve in the future.

    Good luck!!!

Last ones are looking good. Maybe you could try doing one in colour, you'll probably learn a lot about skintones. Unless you're using referenses of overly oiled people which is often the case

Still waiting for the next update, I'm ready to be impressed

Started school here. And I LOVE it. Finally I'm doing something I want... ART.
Unfortunately I got sick and had to stay in bed for a week, but now I feel better and fit for the fight. been watching CA vids and movies. Here are a few of many screens I'm doing and planning on doing. Study Study study.
But, I'm also working on other stuff. I watched a documentary about Roman weapons and soldiers. Here is one of the drawings which came from it. I know the lighting on the armour is off, but thats what happens when I draw without ref

EDIT: I just checked out these updates on my Mac, and OMFG! The colors and values are SOOOO different on my laptop (where they were painted). So forgive me about that. Guess I should paint these on my Mac next time And a little less on laptop. Especially valuedrawings. My shadows are gone!

the film-studies look gorgeous.. really looks like the colour-scheme came pretty nice together. kewl.. I'll do some rigth now.

well, it took me some time setting up my profile and sketchbook..

    greets from vienna, lup

ps.: the tank rox! the strong contrast on the tank, an the blurry bg go well together.

pps.: your alchemy-sketches are so clear, which shape-tool do you use.. mine always turn out to be so crazy..

TheGnoll : Yea. I am so enjoying myself. Not doing stuff which I am used to so I am pushing myself into areas which I am not so fond of and not so familiar with. And it is making me evolve and enjoy the variety of art!

lupre : Well I will be keeping an eye on your SB -I use normal shape tool (default) but put it to thick-stroke... (dunno real name). Check out my Alchemy videos on youtube

This is just a little tease
