***Game concept art - Big dump - Updated Sept 08 ***

    Hi all,

I have added a chunck of work to my firts posting.

In a few words. The new pics were done for a now defunct project. It took place in San francisco so I used real locations and messed them up.

This was started way before "I am Legend" so it was still fresh at the time.

Crits are welcome but this is mainly me sharing those pics so they don't just rott in my folders.

(Since I haven't figured out how to place them at the top of the posting you'll have to scroll down just a notch. It starts by the 7th image.)

    Regards.

The last two is very intrigueing. I love games where you play something small. Hope that's what they're about. Great pieces!

It takes from 2 to 4 or 5 days for pics with this level of details. It depends on how much I rip and clone and trick my way through to build the pic.

I usualy start with a basic color composition and then add ingredients (like a big salad really) that I either paint, find on photographs, previous images..etc.

    Thanks for the compliments.

    Here are a few more.

In the Employment Discussion subforum I’ve got an advice thread going for anyone interested in getting into the games industry. Djobuk, if you are interested in giving advice, too, that subforum is probably a better place to put it. Your posts will stick around longer there, and they'll be easier for people to find.

    Nice paintings!

I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.

Perspective 101, Concept Art 101, Games Industry info,Oil Paint info, Acrylic Paint info, my sketchbook.

I can imagine that having a large personal library of photos would be very handy for this line of work.

these are all really nice, i dont really think the "icy repaint" of that hellish one is working. And just for continuity, the crucified guy in the pentagram? he could be upside down and it would probably look better. just a thought! great work though man.

These are great - I'm not a huge gamer but I do like them to have great graphics. Pity I only play them on the DS - small screen=rubbishy graphics!

    Gavin: Yep. Any good?

Spacemunky: Good idea (Although the instant visual impact could have suffered) ..but the game (The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse) has looong since been buried ..below the Vatican the rumors say.. and now rests in peace. Amen

    All:Thanks

awesome work djo, very textural and inspiring!

i tend to put an extensive amount of texture info into my paintings as well, is that something that companies look for in a concept artist?

how long do paintings like these usually take you? and do you achieve your textures using photos or just custom brushes or?

    Great work Djobuk!
The top image is my favourite because of the excellent sense of atmosphere. I also really enjoy the pallete, teriffic earth colours and golden light!
My only crit is maybe there is something amiss with the scale of the fire - they look like a small set of flames but the distance tells me that it should be huge. Also, perhaps you'd might expect the lighting to change a little around the fires; fires are a light scource too.
Great images post more when you can!

nice images, but there are quite a few persepctive issues (especialy in the second one) which really bring the quality down. Also the cut and pasted textures flatten our alot of the surfaces, like the side of the cliff on the train set. A lot of the pasted images you include are quite low quality, so when you include them in a peice like this and stretch them the distortion is really obvious and distracting from everything else.

We'll ride the spiral to the end, we may just go where no one's been

Glad to hear it. I will transmit the compliment to the rest of the team. (And we all agree it was too short. It's being corrected for the next outing of miss Croft)

In response to the other posts; Points well taken. Light, perspective ,textures and all.

Notspecialist: the sheddules to deliver most of these pics are 2 to 3 days for the finish pics which includes doing the research. Day in day out it's a little consuming..
I contributed a few posts in this exellent thread about the very subject of concepts within the game industry here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76898

Jesus tap dancing christ, Im in love. To say everything that I like about the above pics would take far too long. So I'll just leave it at this. I love the theme, love the detail, love the colors. I need wallpaper versions. And I have to see more. So much more!
