Olá! Bon dia! I just returned from a week of fun in Lisbon, Portugal! Pardon my ramble, but I must....

First of all - continued WOW factor from this collection of interpretations of 'The Escape'. I'm thoroughly impressed and wish that much like MikeC in round 1, there would have been some big battle for Jason Chan....oh well, round 3 will have some treats in store for you Mr. Chan, eh?

Second - my hat is off to Sham and Dougbot. Both of you elevated my work. I feel I have succeeded in more ways than one. I had a wonderful group of individuals to have constructive crits with. Thank you so much for all of the support - you know who you are!! I started quite a few concepts and kept revising and tweaking thanks to input. Research was a blast - I think I watched 100+ video snippets on octopuses to understand their behaviors and characteristics. Gathered an insane image collection of my topic. Drank a ton of café and put in a lot of time. Had a lot of time to develop and not rush anything. I had moments of doubt, moments of bliss, and moments of serious contemplation of how to proceed next. Each time I updated my piece, it got better and better - all thanks to crits and keeping an open mind. But again, it was Sham and Dougbot that caused me to continue in the mindset I had against my wonderful round 1 competitors (flaptraps and michael see). Thank you for this opportunity to grow in an open and free environment. I have succeeded in growing as a result.

Third - bravo Doug! You took your work in a new direction - realize this new potential and continue to explore. My wife thought you were a shoe-in winner in our round during a brief look see whilst in Lisbon. Your work may feel less than done, but what it has is an easily understood solution to the topic. I thought I had ya by the nose hairs, but Sham used that in his piece. Keep us proud and win round three, Doug! You have a tough round there!! Go Seattle!

Fourth - I sincerely appreciate the crit Sveta! And props to all who gave me a kind nod for the work.

Fifth - I would personally like to learn more about how I could have improved my piece. I open this up to the judges and any competitor/visitor to this thread. Please either PM me or respond in my sketchbook thread. Paintovers are welcome.

    Obregado!

Because I read that people find it funny, but I actually find it a very sad piece.. Or is that just me having sad thoughts?

@Y-S; I think it's more like sketch - wacom+photoshop or wacom+painter, or just ehm oil paint + brush, or water color + brush.
Some people create everything digital, and some do everything traditional.
As for Photoshop, there are many tutorials on it. Check the photoshop subforums to read a bit more into that

What's with all the genitalia? I've seen many pieces here that demonstrate skill and creativity. However, there's a lot of trash posted here. Honestly, is there an age-requirement to get into this thread? If not, then the images need to be child friendly. Plain and simple. Be responsible.

Ha ha! Great first post mate! You're funny you are! Interesting that this appears after the recent post in the lounge concerning the crazy suspension of a teacher in Texas over nudes in the Dallas Museum of Art....

I actually went back and consciously looked for nudity or "genitalia" as you put it.... ya, there is some of that, but like I said I had to look consciously because like most people on these boards I look at art differently; what does the piece communicate, what skill is behind it, what colors did the artist use, etc. And quite honestly, I cant take your post seriously....hello, internet....there are much easier / and for a lack of a better word "better" ways to get nudity than looking through threads on a concept art forum.

And here is something else I want to point out, because this annoys me about the stance you people ( I don't mean to generalize, but you DID take the point of the "moralist" here), there are as many images with violent content as there are with nudity.....THAT doesn't seem to bother you...WHY (maybe because you're from texas??...I kid). but seriously, why is nudity more frowned upon then explict violence? does this make sense....??! not to me.... so to me you've cancelled your critic from the start, because it doesn't seem like a valid point, just the most obvious to pick on nudity.....

think. then wait 5 minutes, then think again. the before you post.... think again.
    same goes for speaking.

    Totally agree!
Its a shame how a penis/vagina scares people in "our" culture... something that a cutted off head seem unable to do.

For me, something to think about...

Now that we've seen the 'tried and true rebuttals' As if there is a good counter argument for why nudity/genitalia should be kept out of the sight of children...

What is the answer to my question? Is there or is there not an age requirement to get into this forum?

By they way, some good points came up. Images displaying extreme violence should not be made available to children either.

And, sure, it's the internet. So why should anyone assume a role of leadership in an area such as this, when it's so much easier to pass the blame to someone else?
