God, that looks awesome already. Really nice composition actually. Your works have simple elegance--a great trait.
Finally! I wish the new threads started on time more often, but hey...
Looking sweet already evildisco! I think I'm going to join this round!
Hey, by the way: I know the topic is "gaseous planet view/vista" but is it Ok to have rocks and a ground existing on the planet. I mean, technically I guess then it would no longer be a gaseous planet, right?
Just stick a Gas Giant in the background and your still on track. Titan (Saturns moon) probably has great views of Saturn and has boulders of frozen methane on it.
P.S. or just check the FAQ/rules thread.
"If a man be gracious and courteous to strangers, it shows he is a citizen of the world."
That was a hard enviro to do. Not entirely happy with it. It probably needs more love. Your's is sweet disco.
The Cyclonic Storm of Ares VII is said to have enough cyclical energy to power several planets.

wip i think
edit: it'll be my final
The gas planets themselves may not have been the perfect places to settle, but the asteroids that found themselves captured by the gasses make colonizing such planets possible.

Looks like some damn huge cotton lines. I do also think, that gaseos planets should consist of gas with no solid land on it, but it's artists choice.
I guess I'm holding my place here, though I'm not sure what a placeholder thread is. Is it going to be an official EOW? When's the deadline?
I've never done an EOW before, but this topic is pretty awesome...WIP:
Thanks to Chuck, Mate for his carpet tutorial. I found it useful.
Any chance of telling us the deadline? Took me a while to find inspiration but now I am on a roll!
Always strive for perfection. You will never achieve it, but will learn so much more in the striving.
yeah, my first post on CA. i know its crap, i was just trying out painter, decided to post it.
On the planet of Gibbs IX, there was a scientific reasearch center which specialized in turning the volatile chemicals of the atmosphere into life saving medicines. One day, an intern accidentally let some of the internal atmostphere out, and it reacted violently with the planets atmosphere. It turned a sickly green and the gases corroded the metal structure of the floating lab, forcing the occupants to try to escape in the pods, which thrusters rusted almost instantly, dooming the escapees. The city now lays a derelect, sustaining itself on the very chemicals that proved its destruction... (good stor,y crappy picture, might even use the story for a roleplaying game )
Transport ship M513 loaded mostly with metal, is getting ready to land... Captain Chassey then realized he had flown to the wrong planet! This planet didn't even have a solid ground to land on - it was too late! Ship M513 vanished in the vaporous clouds and never was seen or heard of again. Bummer.

Unless the deadline is later than October 9, this has to be my final.
The computer models predicted an 81 percent chance the two gas planets would not total enough mass to become a sun. Nobody was sticking around to find out, though. Nobody! Either way it went down this would be the end of the colony on the moon known as Nova Antarctica.
Wow, just an observation about the activities: When one looks at the number of viewings at any given moment, Creature of the Week has clearly the most, second comes Charactor of the Week and Environment of the Week is last.
I guess people are drawn to living things and environments are kind of boring, for many - I guess. Anyway, I hope this thread won't die, but I'm glad we already have a few entries here.
Perspective can be tough if you don't know what you're doing, and you can get away without it if you are only focusing on a character or monster. For the best job security, you should be able to do characters in environments.Originally Posted by dragon4lunch
I wonder whether having the little star icon for the COW winner contributes to more participation. It's the only activity with a "prize" to win. But that shouldn't affect viewership. Must be, as you say, "drawn to living things."

refference pics to start from...

the works need to have common points...

Enviroments are tough to create and can show as much character and life as any character design.
I just think that unfortunitly the mod guys for this forum have been busy lately.
It would be a very big shame for to lose E.O.W.
i can only tell you that it`s really hard for alot of people here (myself included..) to create environments, for alot of reasons.Originally Posted by dragon4lunch

Having stars for the winners would be great!
There are plenty of people who can do good environments on here. Some have been away obsessing about Thunderdome, and about 60 will be back soon. Others have an ADD thing going on and can't produce unless they know there is a deadline a short time away. When the mods have the time to be more hands on I think the EOW will be fine. Look how many stars the Open "Post your Environments" thread down there has. Look at the great work in there.
Lack of attention here is merely a tiny blip on the radar screen and it will not do to obsess over it. Post an environment, if you haven't already. That's what to do, and incidentally that's how to get better (if people will just take the time to crit).
I do agree that challenge is the way to attract the people who come on the forums to learn and get better rather than merely to impress others with already acquired skills. The challenge elements act as virtual coursework and are not to be feared.
Anyone know the deadline for this weeks environment?
I started one last night but it's not done yet
