Kvick'Z Sketches 10-8-10 nudity nudity blah blah

EDIT 9-7-09::: If you're in the year 2009 and you're looking at the first 5 pages.... DONT, you'll save yourself the agony, skip to page 7, theres hardly any comments and a lot more art, it's healthier for all of us that way.

Alright I suppose I'll start out as an intro to me. Hi, my name is Mike, I'm 16 and I've had a large fascination with art for awhile now, but, I find myself too stupid to have started drawing when I was younger, because I only started drawing a few months ago /nailguntohand. I haven't had any anatomy lessons/training/books I've learned my current knowledge from watching too much tv, playing too many video games, and just walking around looking around. Well I really have been meaning to start one up for while seeing all the people making great improvements, but I've always have been too lazy to start one up because scanning takes 8.67 or MORE minutes out of my life every day and thats too much work for my intense schedule of staring at the wall!! >.<

I'll start off with random scraps I've scrounged up from everywhere, I apoligize for using paper with lines, but, I like to draw during school and I think my sketchbook is too cumbersome to deal with on my desk, plus people look at me funny if I draw NEKKID people and I like to call people racists when they do which usually doesn't lead to good things! I can't promise a daily update but I will try my best to do so.

Edit 5-20-07: Okay, I turned all the sketches I deemed bad from images to url links, don't bother clicking on all of them just a few if you want an idea of my skill level on this date, this goes for other early posts I don't like aswell, I do this to reduce the horrible load time on here

I think I need to start doing some bigger drawings, get an anatomy book(which im planning on soon), learn to draw cloth(I haven't found any good ways to study that >.<), I'm also trying to focus more on my linework rather than on my rendering, (cause whats the point of rendering if my lines look like a vasctemy gone wrong!) and start some drawings from life rather than using the tv . Throw me crits!; I know I've only been at this for a little while, but I feel like recently my progress hasn't been, well.... progressing.

    Good start!
Great to see you doing those pose studies! keep at it and you will be improving quickly.
Try drawing some poses from photo ref, it will help you understand human anatomy better.
    Good luck!

edit: just saw you are getting a anatomy book! that's even better

Weird, my post last night didn't well... post.

The one I posted which didn't go through had another hogarth study but I filled the page up with more so I'll just post that.

    http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m.../9-25-06/2.jpg

going to try and make up for the drawings I didn't do yesterday and today.

Today: Alright today was a let down again , I went to school then got sick 2 hours in, so I could hardly focus on drawing let alone schoolwork. So the only drawing I did today was an hour ago. More hogarth studies which I already have posted above. Tomorrow as long as any gay shit doesn't happen and the streak doesn't continue, I WILL make up for 3 days of drawing .

Hmmm, well due to sickness I wasn't able to accomplish my goal as expected, lol, but whatever. I noticed someone in class trying to draw a zombie-like sort of face for a band image. It didn't turn out too well so I offered to try some concepts myself, and he said sure. So here are my fake commisions so far, unfinished and I plan on actually finishing these, maybe attempting to paint for once in PS.

Well I didn't want this post to be a big pile of crap so I found an old WoW sketch that looked like crap and I attempted painting it, so heres my first actual painting attempt evar! and it's something im finally happy with in awhile even though it obviously has its flaws, I'll work on those later maybe.

Hey kvick. It takes time but if you keep at it you will get better. Try drawing things from life (plants, buildings, self-portaits etc.). break up the image first by roughly drawing shapes then start putting in the detail. Concentrate on light and shadow. Take a look at this http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm its really useful

Oh and don't draw on lined paper.

Thanks for stopping by my book. You're making some real nice progress yourself. You have definitely got a great imagination.

Try to focus on creating mass with your line. You were successful in doing this with the chair sketch. It would probably be helpful to start with loose, big shapes like canned_fruit suggested, but I would also recommend doing some real quick gestures. Get a feel for the action of the subject, and couple that with all the anatomy you're learning.

Real solid start, I've subscribed, so I'll check back often :.
Thanks again and those devil horns are sweet.

    Great updates mate!
Try to think 3d while you are drawing. Make big shapes first and make sure everthing is ok before you start detailing.

Edit: Ahh just like max xiantu said above here
    Cheers!

I've been sick so small lack of updates, I'm better now so I'm going to try and keep this daily from now on.

Canned Fruit:Yeah, I normally don't draw a sick figure or anything before I draw what I'm going to; I just think of the position, draw the head, then draw the rest. I guess thats not the best way to go about it but for some reason whenever I try it with some shapes beforehand it looks even worse, maybe I'm just not used to it? Dunno. And yeah I should probably start drawing some objects I've been lacking in that area aswell as with enviros. About the lined paper, I'm too lazy to get out my SB during class usually, maybe I will from now on but when I do people usually start watching what I draw, makes it akward sometimes and ruins my concentration.

max xiantu:Thanks, and as I said above to canned, I usually don't start out with shapes, I've always just drawn straight what I see or feel like drawing, I guess I should probably start though. I haven't tried quick gestures before I've been thinking of drawing another sheet of figures again sometime. I'm going to be checking on your sb often aswell.

Beershite: Ty, heh, again with the shapes I should probably really do that, lol . About thinking in 3D, I've recieved similar advice before. I'm lucky enough to get to occasionaly ask Neversoft's project lead questions about the game industry (for a reason I'm too lazy to type right now), he sent one of my emails to their art director, he mentioned about taking a 3D elective class to familiarize myself some more and gain more understanding with geometry.

Alright, heres some more updates mainly just studies though.

Thanks Kanoa, I've taken art classes before in like middleschool n' such but I never tried in those, it was mainly for the easy grade, and it didn't really teach me anything, all I really drew were stick figures lol . I can't exactly remember but I started actually trying to draw in about April/Mayish. If I said that just to get praise I'd probably be stealing artwork duh! lol jk, I made this for the sole purpose of improving through crits, and maybe making friends along the way.

    Heres a small update,

Small update, slacking in effort which I need to stop ><

quick enviro attemps just as ideas
    http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m.../10-4-06/1.jpg

and this figure is what happened when I drew a stick figure before filling in some more detail, maybe I'm not drawing the stick figure exactly how I want to have the figure then I use it as too much of a guideline when I make the figure but I dunno.

Hey, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. You're only 16 and you're getting into studying anatomy and stuff already, that's really great. You've got a lot of creative things here, and I think I like your study on the hands the best. If you're still having trouble drawing clothes, I did this one thing where I drew and shaded a crumpled up sweater and paid attention to all the little nooks and crannies and folds it had. It was really fun and it lets you learn how clothes interact with themselves with all the folds and stuff. Now I should take my own advice and keep going on with it cause I too still have a little trouble. XD Keep up the good work!

The figure work is really starting to come together.

(Now, reward yourself and get rid of the lined paper and get a sketchbook )

Thx pirate, I try to maintain some creativity in my sketches even though im a knubbe and I can't express what I want quite yet, I'll try your suggestion about the clothes.

Max I have a sb! I just don't use it during skool, but I guess I will, lined papel seems to bug people a lot .

Alright, I've been getting really tired everytime I get home after school for some reason. Either I need to start going to bed earlier or OD on caffiene pills and crack, cause this is killing my detication to drawing >.<. (I draw more than these updates a day, but I like to fill out pages before posting them usually.)

Unfinished sketch had some trouble trying to get the action of a midswing of a golfer, someone give me a topic/item to draw! I'm trying to get more fake commisions from my friends maybe I'll start trying some of the weekly topics like CotWs for some ideas .

Tried a little foreshortening, you can tell I had some trouble by all the eraser marks, I had unanticipated trouble around the midsection of the larger one aswell. Guess I need to keep studying!

I bought a large new SB along with pencils to try and motivate me some more.

the face started as a self portrait, then I started seeing what I could do from memory, then worked on a hand which I used as little thought process as possible so I didn't bother erasing.

Good stuff on getting a new sketchbook. Now that it's a larger size you have to work harder to fill up the page. Think of each page as a composition and arrange the doodles in an interesting fashion. It's good practice.

Check out the loomis books for help on the faces and such :.

alright! going for the daily updates again and see how it goes lawl
and yeah max I need to start filling up pages, I have a bad habit of drawing on 1/4 of a page then using the next for some reason lol I'll check out one of the loomis books for the faces, Hogarth doesn't have much about it, mainly just proportions.

that sp was last night doesn't look exactly like me though I used my window instead of a mirror.

I usually don't like uploading single images but heres my friend's portrait anyways. I went back to my old pencils, the ones I bought were krappie.

    Long time, no update.
I have waves of absences of inspiration so I post what I feel is more interesting. Since I'm on break for this next week I'll be going for 4 pages per day until sunday. This takes awhile to scan so I'll post some of the other sketches other days.

The ghetto sewer mermaid was actually the idea I had for the char of the week, I was painting it and PS crashed in the middle and I only had one save after I'd laid down the base colors so I dropped that project since I was kind of pissd

and this one was a joke about this guy I know, and an attempt at a cartoony style

Now, I haven't drawn anything today so 4 pages filled in about 5 hours is my goal!

The portrait of your friend is your best work yet by far.
Try to apply that kind of patience to all your other work.

You're making considerable progress. Keep it up brother :.

Hey. I just joined up after searching Google for "drawing wrists" and finding your sketchbook. Looking over your page, you're clearly much improved since you first started posting. I hope you keep going.

Take a look at my series of in-depth critiques, like this one of Salvador Dali's hidden portrait of Lincoln.

Scott's Sketchbook: Check out my sketchbook. Will swap C&Cs.
