A Game of Thrones - Card Art
Hi - I haven't posted in the FF section in forever - I've been pretty quiet of late. These are ten cards I made for Fantasy Flight Games earlier in the year. I hadn't read the book when I made them and so I have definitely changed my mind about how accurate the representations are of the various characters, now that I have read it. It's my first time working on a defined intellectual property in a while - I'd forgotten what it's like - some of the feedback about the art on the FFG boards has been less than enthusiastic and some of it very generous indeed.
Technically, there are definitely loads of weak spots, but you don't get better by not making mistakes, right? Right? (crickets are heard in the background)
Anyway, please feel free to crit away and I hope that you see something here that you enjoy.
Archmaester - erm, I forget the rest of his name. Bollocks.
Hang the Traitors
Justice of the North
Knight of Riverrun

Now that's just wierd
Wow - how odd. The attachments don't seem to show up, but if you click under the names of the cards, they load in a different window.

looks alright man, i love song of ice and fire so its cool to see other peoples visions of the characters.
PS: I think the Grand maester you mean is Qyburn. though he had his chain revoked for some reason (probably necromancy).
How's that for nerdiness.

Great stuff Jonathan! Love the Hang the Traitors painting. The only thing thats bothering me about them is that they feel very desaturated. Play around in PS with a Color and/or a Softlight layers to try to intensify some of the colours, especially around areas that should have higher saturation (i.e. edges between light and shadow)... if that makes sense.

van bot Qyburn - maybe.... Now that you mention it, he doesn't have a chain, so he can't be a regular maester. It wasn't in the art description and as I said, I'd not read the book when I made that pic. I think I may have screwed up royally there....
Romance - Dammit Rob - that probably took you all of 30 seconds and you've made it look so much better!!!!
You've also pointed out one of my biggest weaknesses as a painter - I am scared to commit to staurated colours and keep everything desaurated so that it's closer to grayscale, my more comfortable modus operandii. Great crit though - I'll definitely bear that in mind with the next batch I'm working on!
How's trcicks anyway? I saw a lot of companies leave Montreal with your portfolio - did you manage to find a gig yet?
Loomer Dude - thanks a lot mate - I can't tell you how much I value your input on my stuff. I like your TDome btw - I'll send you my thoughts on it on the morrow.
