I simply LOVE the fact someone just stepped up and took over this thread without an admin. The cats away, so the mice will play. LOVE IT.

And thank you for picking a topic we'll all enjoy whether we participate or not.

Now I'm gonna go watch the Harryhausen movie of the same name. That movie kicks ass.

    Final:
    Pirithous' Battle with the Centaurs

Pirithous was the king of Lapiths, and the son of Zeus. Pirithous and his frind Theseus were known in legend as "the strongest men that Earth has bred, the strongest men against the strongest enemies, a savage mountain-dwelling tribe whom they utterly destroyed." Among the guests at Pirithous's wedding to Hippodamia were the centaurs, who, after havig too much to drink attempted to carry the women away. Fighting ensued and the Lapiths defeated the centaurs.

Hey, you only opened this thread yesterday. Give it some time, people have to find it. I haven't checked the other thread, but is there a link to this one in it?

Anyways, i drew a gayish greekish dude in my sb i drag around everywhere, but since i was at a book convention all day and didn't have any time to doodle around and then i was too beat to think of any jason.... i need more time.

So, i hope to post something later this week, as soon as i've figured out what the argonouts are again and what i'm supposed to do with them. Was Jason the same guy who got the goatskin? Anyway, thanks for giving me a good excuse to read myths again.

Thumbs up for the initiative btw. Keep at it, cos i'm too lazy.

    "no one seems interested"

BAH! Maybe if you're going to do the CHOW, you could actually post the thread in the the CHOW area so people know that it exists. This is the challenge arena, not the community activities. For some people the challenge arena is like cage-fighting, and the community activities is like playing checkers.

no one is going to go to a cage-fight to play checkers.

the community activities needs mod-powers to post or whatever sooo..uhm find a mod?

    Orpheus from The Argonauts.

    The Argonautic expedition

Despite Orpheus's Thracian origin, he joined the expedition of the Argonauts. Centaur Chiron had warned Argonaut leader Jason that only with the aid of Orpheus would they be able to navigate past the Sirens unscathed. The Sirens lived on three small, rocky islands called Sirenum scopuli and played irresistibly beautiful songs that enticed sailors and their ships to the islands' craggy shoals. Once shipwrecked on the rocks, the sailors became supper for the Sirens. However, when Orpheus heard the Sirens, he drew his lyre and played music more beautifully than that of the Sirens, thus drowning out their alluring but deadly song.

evildisco - how the HELL do you do that?? fucking awsome pencil skills. damn.

i`m sort of familiar with the argonauts tale, but i`ll do some more reading about it, and try and enter as well. hopefuly, in time.

a rough sketch. i`ll be trying to create an Hercules, not really sure yet what
    theme-

    update:

    Update:
    FINAL-

    2006:
    It is time again.
These are desperate times. Times of uncertainty and tragedy.
A world of dismay and corruption is calling out for help.
Crying out for heroes, once again.
    Summoned by Zeus himself,
Dead or alive, these once revered men of legend,
Must keep a promise Taken in the days of the ancient.
Dead or alive, these men, now forgotten,
Must take upon themselves one last task.
On the battleship "Argo" Lead by a heavy medicated Jason, and an emotionally crippled Hercules,
these men, merely ghosts from a dead past, set out on one final mission
For the sake of all human kind.
    It is time again.
    These are The Argonauts.

Things are about to get ugly.

Hey Chuck..there's some great drama with Herakles (this being greek lets give him the greek name).... he signed on with Jason as resident hero, bringing his boy-toy with him. He and Jason had a rowing contest (which leads one to believe jason was a bruiser too) just a jason collapsed with exhaustion, herakles oar broke. They land on an island to cut a new oar and the boy toy wanders off wit hthe local dryad. Herakles goes nuts and starts to tear down the place and Jason and the argonauts leave him there and run off paniced......great choice lots of scope for imagination!

    well, chaos, thanks for that.
but i`m not gonna dig too deep there.
of course, i`ll try and give the guy as much character as i can, but perhaps
take it to a different place then the mythic hercules-dude.

Chuck, mate - Chuck, chuck, chuck. I mean, this is a placeholder. I love the drawing.

Chaos - If you're just jumping in with real paint, you're a braver man than I. Er woman, whatever. Edge control is hell in the real world.

yeeep ...real paint..and yup real paint. the real trick is photographing it while it's still wet. My boss gets mad when I get oilpaint on the scanner.
    thanks for noticing...

Here's my WIP for this week's entry. My chosen person is Medea, who in my opinion is one of the greatest female characters in literature. Most folks seem to despise this poor woman, but I think she's just plain amazing.

I plan to do this one in a style similar to Joshua Reynold's "Portrait of Mrs. Siddons as the Tragic Muse." It's one of my favorite paintings.

"I did it because I hated you more than I loved them."-Medea, Medea

I've decided to stop lurking and attempt to post something! But first, just wanted to throw out the wikipedia link for this topic - it might be useful

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argonauts

Consider this a placeholder until this evening!
