well, I like these works. I like the medieval sword warrior, I think you could work a little more on the lines, change them, play with them. Keep posting and don't go down if some critic could be not so good, heavy critics are better to improve!

please, comment and critic my work in progress HERE thank you in advance!

haha don't worry about me going down on them, My father is a college art teacher and artist, I think since birth I grew an elephant skin against that.
and there is no better criticus then yourself.
thanks for the crit, I'll be doing a lot more experimenting since short.

Good, you have a good luck with your father, use his talent and experience, but I'm sure you are already doing it! I subscribed your SB, so keep posting and I'll comment your works!
Thank you for your comment at my WIP, I'll try to solve the problems with lights and other things!

    fsshh

still old stuff, don't have time to even upload new stuff, or even make new stuf
I haven't drew in 3 days, been away most of the time, and when I do have time, I'm so fucking tired. I can't progress no more. I feel retarded and suicidal, not really though, I don't like to even watch sketchbooks atm
and You could say I'm in love. maybe that has something to do it.
plss no comments til I update more. but if you can't resist your 'we are only here to help you!' mentality go ahead. I'm tougher to myself atm than anyone could be.

    some update.

    time to scan something in
selection of sketches made the last month
this is mostly from my head or demi-improvised, waiting at the bus, relaxing on the bus, or just sitting on the couch with a magazine in front of me.
this update sucks, but I need to post something
    edit: oh yeah C&C welcome

Pretty creative stuff here. Your characters look great, but the figures and proportions are somewhat off. And with figure drawing and life study classes, you should be able to fix that problem within no time. Keep up the good work.

    yo
shade! i don´t wanna be nice to you just because i get nice comments and crits from you .

but honestly you have as much talent as i have!
i show you what i like here

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...&stc=1&d=11698

htis is very nic e, just sad you didn´t place it right , i like the girldrawing much!

and that pic before and after that.
my crits for now force yourslef to do as less lines as possible, while drawing from life forget construction lines , sketchy lines. get some balls while conqering the paper ! well that´s not much for me now , but i´ll keep watching your process. btw. how old are you ?

    keep it up bro!

    update 02/02/07

    first the replies!

envisor: working on that! have lifedrawing at school, but I can't bring those drawings with me.

    katsgod: thanks

goblinshark: hay dude! I would've hated it if you didn't gave me a push or two in the right direction. I'm not sure if I completely got what you meant. more balls=more rendering? I've done some of both anyways. keep the critiques commin'! and I'm 17 already! still haven't improved much.

first drawing is made during a convention about the EU(european union)
did a bit of salaryman on the lines, they switch.

the rest are mostly photoreferenced, (I'm in there too! guess which ones)
and a bit of perspective lifedrawing, (dad's in there too)
    C&C welcome!

Edit: made a little mistake to the first picture's switching, sorry, now he's last.

    haha rendering balls!!

sry i am somtimes bad in typing crits in english .

    http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1172174671
i like this one looking good , mybe it´s good because of the hard perspectice wich is forcing you to see and not to think much about it. i ´ve seen perpectice studies , good job, but i prefer organic things in perspectie more than stilllife with linear lines.

ok what i wanted to say is do less out lines on the forms from lif eas you already do , that´s why you usually should also do less out lines on your figures from mind.

    yo keep it up!

Very nice sb! it is very good to see a very good progression from the first post to the last, you have grown more confident it seems. Anyway, i think the most evident weakness you have is your lines, which are not solid enough, and it can be fix with practice. keep updating and GREAT JOB!!!!

    bluh

    better than nothing?
    maybe.
@kromNz: thanks for the support, I actually did notice my bad line quality, but you just gave me a push in actually improving it. (haven't tried in these sketches yet)
I deff needed some new lifedrawing, did a bit today, i'm quite rusty.
some sketches, last one is on the bus.
note to myself on the last one: busdrawings teach you nothing,+ they make my lines even worse

    looks alright
the real important thing is understanding.. not using reference
like thinking on your own i also mean understanding about the craft of drawing
how to draw volumes how to create depth n stuff
since theres noone around we can ask when we start drawing.. we lack of it ...we wont learn it from using ref but thinking about it ..
your stuff looks cool but lacks of depth and volume
keep up and u will get to it..

theres too much u dont learn from using ref.. i suggest u look for it anways
it will help improve your skills more then u can imagine

    understanding = control

i'm quite admirable of your hard work! very nice sketches i can see your progression happening...in the last sketch, your figure at the top right is really good. I would maybe suggest spending more time on faces/heads. in some of these you really nail faces, like you understand them at that time, but then you lose them and the proportions are off.

    hello shade.
good progress you're making so far

as for critique, i really think you need to draw... more often. if you can. draw as much as possible... during classes, between classes, doodle when you're bored. practice makes progress.

i think you could learn a lot from doing more finished pieces. you have a lot of sketches, a lot of partial ideas but you should try to apply those to a complete pieces. anyway.

    Keep it up man.

As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

    first of the repliez!

sideshowbob:thanks, I think I got that, I'll spend some more time at actually understanding that what I'm drawing, I indeed forget it a lot.
    ak86: Thnks man I will
Pawl: Indeed, that occurs after periods when I draw significantly less. I'll work on it
Bunny: You are completely right! ^^" I really need to draw more. of coarse I draw more than I upload, I'm just lazy as hell when it comes to scanning my drawings, the come out sucky anyhow when I scan them D:

and thx in general I'll give the support back sooner or later.
    so now the posting!
a lot of stuff happened in the meanwhile
I lost my very first girlfriend, I just got to hear that a friend o' mine has cancer and today I had to decapitate a young hare cause my cat had paralyzed it by breaking it's neck. and to make things worse, I have a myspace now. myspace.com/dovemans
I'm experimenting with electro and breakcore. but still suck at it.

the photo's are of my mural's down at the cellor of the music school wich used to be a monastry, the visual work is about creating poetry, I paired it up with to of my poems which I had to say were quite succesful. my poetry is about finding oneself in the feelings my imagery summons.
the second is a sketch I spend more time on than usual. not sure how I came to the india god theme, but I feel like doing more o' those. and aaaaargh scanner so fucking killed it!! it had a lot of subtle values. o well.

    Hey shade !
The sketchbook is looking pretty good. I see tones of filled pages, and that's good.
The linework is improving more and more, but now the main thing that needs to be well handled is value. Start doing some studies of them, see how light works. And watch out when using a very very dark value. It's almost rare to have it spreading over a large area. Making so (unless the light setting is very strong) would make the drawing look flat.
So, keep working on the life drawing and take notes on what makes it different from imagination drawing.
    Keep drawing monsieur !

    .....meh!....

aaargh, my sketchbook was in for evaluation. got it back today, so I'll show you the end of it(it's full) made a nice surprise end-page
and started an new sketchbook, but that's for a another day. got a haircut, and it failed miserably....

ok the things I need to focus on for the comming months are: anatomy&mind drawings upkeep, typography&graphic design in general, and as danielC pointed out to me; value!.
DanielC: thx for the visit man, if your sketchbook doesn't inspire me enough then this comment reflecting the man behind the sketches surely aspires me. I say thank you...

Wow man, nice stuffs! I like your own input in drawings from reference, and the dynamics that some sketchpages from mind have.
Please do post some of the poetry you made, I like poetry lots! On my old website you can find some of my old poetry. Beware though, a lot of it sounds kinda depressed because they were written in my depressed period

Now I know this has been said before, but I'm just going to repeat it your lines need more confidence. try using a soft pencil maybe (not mechanical), and use that to create some nice confident lines in your drawings.
The last one has some nice lines by the way, I only wish the letters "the end" would've been a bit more aligned and graphical. Cool subject by the way Me likes ^^

Wow, I was all like 'man, that really really sucks' and then the last thing made me laugh. Are you doing allright though?

Well I'll be back with some more indepth crits or whatever.

    How are your exams going?

P.S. I don't know how close you live to Eindhoven, but I'm organizing a sketchmeet at my (parents's) place there the 7th of july. You might want to check it out? For more info click the link "the Netherlands Sketchmeets!" in my sig.
