    How did you Discover CA?

Perhaps someones made a thread about this but Ive never seen one so im making this anyway. I send my apologise in advance.

Basically how did you all discover CA? Its interesting to see how the community has grown. I discovered CA several years ago when I was in highschool. I think I was generally searching for conceptart because I love the stuff, then all of a sudden BAM. The unimaginable! A whole community of concept artist and even other artists gather to this very sight to do what you all do!

i migrated from CG society once the forum had become bloated and there was almost no focus anymore on 2D art.

I was bored and searching for fanart of Blaster Master and came across Prometheus|ANJ's homepage. He had a link to it on there.

I kept getting bugged to make a website back in the day (when I was painting 12-14 hours a day) and so I did some brainstorming and came up with a few web domains...the first was conceptartists.com but it was too hard to tell if i said conceptartist or conceptartists so it then became conceptart.org (with the idea that it would be a collaborative site). I was given an empty page and a counter by the host and there it sat for about a month or two. I checked the link one day to see if it was working and a few thousand people had been to the site. That is when I got to work. I bought some web design books, sketched out layout stuff and the forums structure etc.. That weekend, I called andrew and coro and had them send me their stuff...I was like "guys...the traffic is coming..we need to do something now." i built the site with pontemonti over a weekend and put up the forums...coro and andrew kept dumping their huge piles of art, sketchbook pages, and self-portraits on to the site, we added some tutorials, and jobs information and within a few weeks it was thriving. It really was a right time and place kinda thing. we set it up how we wished it would be set up...and off it went. Within days, other talented folks were contributing and building and two months later it was all lost...everything...so we rebuilt from scratch and it took off again. Four years and millions of visitors later, I am still trying to figure out how I discovered conceptart.org.

I somehow stumbled into it and saw people like Martiniere and Donato, I think, on the home page. It took me a long time before I dove into it, though.

I started with online art forums way back when sijun was the big fish. I moved on to Francis Tsai's Concept design forum which was a little more specialized and much less cluttered with crap. We had an IRC chanel and a bunch of us who were on at the time discovered Conceptart.org before it was even up and running. Francis Tsai's forum sort of died, unfortunately, and CA became my new number 1.

I followed some links to Jon Foster's old WIP threads, but for the life of me I can't remember where from.

Same, and the reason I stayed was because of the sense of community and people striving towards the same goals.

i searched the web for postapocalyptic paintings and stumbled across marco's skydiver pic on the CA frontpage... a small click on the "forum" button and about 30 seconds of waiting later (had a modem back then) and I was hooked...

joining this community is one of the few things in my life I NEVER had regrets about...

"How do you know you're good enough?" "You know." "What if you're wrong?" "You find out."

I had a Vincent Van Gogh book which said he learnt to draw figures from Charles Bargues book cours de dessin (still out of print at the time ). The only thing I could find on Bargue was MindCandyMans Bargue thread. Didn't know FA about CA. Since then I've learn't heaps about art, discovered kick ass artists and I am still discovering how much more there is to learn.

Marko's Jesus Christ Machine: That piece was the one I always remember intriguing me. When I was a sophmore, I had a friend show me this pic, and the whole thought of conceptualization blew my mind, and made me think about different approaches in my work. Funny thing is I had been checking out Wes's website long before and hadn't made the connection until after I joined. I can hardly begin to mention all th ways this community has helped me grow, but what I can say is thanks, to everyone that has something to do with this site. But yeah, Marko, thanks for that spark -
