    Swan Mantid

    C.O.W. - #059: Creek Crawler
"Patience... for the Jedi it is time to eat as well...."

Upon reaching Dagobah, Yoda realized that certain habits he learned to cherish had to change. Such was the way of the Force. His rations ran out, and there was little edible vegetation native to Dagobah. Yoda understood that in order to survive the many years of exile, waiting for the son of Anakin to grow up and join him on Dagobah, Yoda would have to forgo his strict vegetarian diet and become an omnivore. He did not mourn those creatures he captured and ate, for those that pass on from this life become one with the Force. But, he did have certain rules of engagement with respect to hunting and capturing food. Yoda only allowed himself to capture and eat small predators that were, themselves, caught in the act of catching prey. Yoda felt this honored the circle of life that was the Force and in the process saved a life more vulnerable than the one he had to take in order to eat. Yoda was particularily fond of Dagobah's Sawn Mantid, an amphibious crustacean that was very swift and very beautiful to watch in action. The Swan Mantid could make itself so still and move so quickly in its strike for swamp minnows, capturing one tested even the reflexes of a master Jedi. However, Yoda was never embarrassed to admit to himself that more than a few Swan Mantids had escaped his grasp...for that too was the way of the Force.

Damn, can't beat the man in the mirror

    Final:
    C.O.W. - #059: Creek Crawler

    Sombrazul
    (puteulanus phasmatis ingredior)

These majestic beasts roam the little creeks that surround the amazone river deep inside the rainforests of Brazil. They are extremely shy and have rarely been encounterd by humans. The native indians of the area regard them as direct descendants from god, and worship them by bringing them offers. Theyre name stems from the portuguese translation for blue shadow. Because of their shy nature people only see a blue shadow moving through the woods. They are also called blue spirit or blue ghost by the natives.

The Sombrazul feeds mainly on fish and prefers to live close to small creeks. They use their long limbs to wade through the undeep waters and hunt for fish. The Sombrazuls have no natural enemies. Their skin is covered with a highly poisonous slimy coating that protects them from harm. Their brightly colored skin is a warning for predators and these colors are also used in the mating rituals. The skin that hangs between their long legs is their main tool in attracting a mate. The Sombrazul with the most flamboyant skin decoration will be most succesfull in reproduction.

    EDIT FINAL:

    C.O.W. - #059: Creek Crawler

    Description:

A fat lazy creature living near creeks. It spend most of it's time sleeping. While awake they go out looking for food or they take a walk. They mainly eat plants growing only at creeks. Sometimes they accidentally happened to catch a fish during their walk, that's the most awesome food they can think off.

When defending against predators. They use their shell to guard, waiting for an great opportunity. They'll quickly roll over their predator once they have the chance. Because of his large body, the predator will get crushed.

    Wooo Hoooo! I'm in early.

I really shouldn't participate this week because of the other projects I'm neglecting. I'll try my best to stay out of this.

Okay, maybe I'll do more than just a description for this one. This bodes well for me though--I grew up with a nearby creek in my childhood

    Wow ! Fast !

    Nice starting thumbs
    Personally like the 1 & 2.
3,4,5 looks kinda cybernetic when I take a closer look. (Cow, didn't mention any rules not to have robots though)

Keep up ! I'll start soon, already have some ideas in my mind

I'm thinking about a Greek crawler or perhaps a Geek Crawler, I think I'm gonna have to look up Creek in the dictionary ...oh it has to do with water... Hm, so it's all up the creek, then...

    I have a rules question.

Has anyone ever entered a sculpture in COW? Is it an unspoken rule? I've just never seen anyone try it. You'd think someone would, if it was acceptable as an entry.

I've gone and started adding some colours to my guy. I'm going to put more green in his shell parts to really tie the plant-ish and animal parts together. So far I'm happy with it, but I HATE the line quality on this one. It was a rough sketch rather than a finished clean-up style drawing, but you live and learn eh?

    ~Details here and there, it's getting there!~
    C.O.W. - #059: Creek Crawler

Hmm, am I going overboard with the dotty texture?

Joey-B: While it isn't my call, obviously, your idea so far does seem awfully "human-like" or "humanoid" which is against Rule #1. But other than that, it does fit "creek crawler" pretty well. I can see he has some kind of tail, so you should be fine regarding the rule breakage. But he might be skirting the line a bit...

Stay away from humanoid design...it's early in the process so change the design ...drastically

About the sculpture, it's ok if you post photos of them in this thread, but i won't take em to the poll...if you ask why there is a simple answer: If i allow sculpture, why not 3D models? If 3D models why not animation? If animation why not movies? etc etc etc...

That said i want that the entries going to the poll are drawings only, also for the sake of voting...could you give a vote deciding between a sculpture and a drawing? Would this be fair? I think that's not possible without doing justice to both, so we keep it simple...

Still post your photos, sculptures or whatever you have to show regarding the topic, even if it doesn't make it to the poll, it's an inspiration and a base for discussion

Hey Fozz, I appreciate the clarification. However, ... I thought people have submitted 3D renders before... wasn't there...?

Yeah Mike, your right. I think I saw some 3d in this piece. Although it looks like Zbrush, which kinda makes it 2,5d. Or that Vince guy is really good at spec and shadow rendering.

Updated my first post with a wip.

GKstudios: I like those thumbs. #1 looks really good because its so totally different. #2 and #7 also look very good, the other looks a bit too alien/mechanic imo.

banhatin: Is that your reference or your picture? Looks very nice but it could use alot more creativity I think.

Supervlieg:1 ,2 & 7 allright I'll try to mix it up also to make it more crawler like i hope to get some good shapes and put something up for today. I'll try to get and mix the exciting parts of the thumbs.

    ScaryPotato
    :
I like it it's orginal neat design hope it gets exciting.

KaWaii: I'll lay off the mechanical part for now won't work if I add some mechanical parts in my design will it ??

Maoi: You like cloisters don't you :p haha. I also like the thumbnumber 2 but, it isn't crawly enough if you know what I mean. It does look it can life in the sea and walk on land. But no crawly part. I have to work on that. Thankz for you comment.
BTW I looked it up dark crystal can't really see how it looks like the design pehaps you mean a specific species in the series. I haven't seen it though perhaps you can upload a picture of what you mean.

    ------------------------------
    Comment on sketches

Supervlieg. dope design I like the wing part so it can lay down on the surface of the water. interesting shape of the head to. it needs to be small to walk on the water ?

    Joey-B
it looks scary , nice rendering of the head.

    Michael Jeacks :
It's scary and also crawly i think, makes me think of a centipede.
