I'm not entirely convinced that the insertion into the arm of his left pectoral is correct, but that aside, I think this is terrific!

    Thumbs up Pectoral

Yeah thats true but what an effort! Would seriously look to pick up a comic with your work in it. How many hours did put in?

I'm not a hellboy fan, but this drawing totally rocks. Way to breathe new life into an old character, man. That's great

Wow... as a Hellboy fan I always enjoy some good fan art. I feel compelled to nitpick at a couple of things:

    1. His fingers on his left hand are too fat to fit thru the trigger guard. I assume that because his cannon was custom built for him it would have a trigger gaurd with plenty of room for his larger than life digits.

    2. Hellboy's body type was closer to a brick shithouse than the cover of muscle magazine. Thick around the middle. Long, sloping shoulders.

I also just realised how Mignola and his sketchy style kept much attention from being drawn to Hellboy's legs and feet. It was always a given that they were something along the lines of goat legs, but he never rendered them as well as you did.

It's a beautiful piece... now do the rest of the BPRD!

thank you for the critiques and encouragement - i, like other humans, need it all.

e.j. - i am a video game artist, but i would LOVE to draw pinups or foldouts. comics fuel my inner fires and i buy them by the gallons. i did this for a competition my friends and i have every once in a while to keep the illustration skills sharp - it took me two evenings.

staz - yes, his pec is screwed. i have no excuses for it other than i love to draw suggestive anatomy - by that i mean i like to draw in tons of muscles and striations that don't REALLY exist in the body, but sure look good bulging out (as evidenced by the inner forearm muscles). forgive.

anticonnor - dude, there is no way that fat finger is fitting into the trigger guard. back to the drawing board on that one. as far as his body type goes, i wasnt really trying to draw it mignola style - more like mignola's hellboy drawn phillip style? definitely more homage than influence - though i love me some mignola, i dont draw like him. so i didnt try to. and it never dawned on me to draw the rest of the BPRD - but now i cant wait to draw abe! thanks.

rainbow - i will post more; a griffin for your viewing pleasure or pain.

and everyone, thank you for your suggestions, critiques, and kind words...

    pdm

astounding. i really love where you've taken him in this interpretation. lots of changes from the standard hellboy style, yet instantly recognizable as THE hellboy.

easily my favorite hellboy portrait i've seen. magnolia aside, of course :P

    awesome!

Im not satisfied with the leg in the background and the placement of his tail. Maybe the tail should be around the right side.

GREAT penicl work. i absolutly love it.
the colored piece, though, isn`t so good.
it kinda 'killed' the wonderful pencil artwork.
color choices, light&shade coloring, the BLACK BG there -
none is really working for the piece, and it rather flattens the whole thing...

I totally agree with Chuckm' on this, I feel your form was almost totally ignored and all your hard work in the pencils was kicked to the curb. Keep experimenting in terms of execution of color, SA. In fact, check out Mate's tutorial he just posted and it might give you some ideas -

That Salvatore . Aiala's color piece is all kind of wrong, & in my opinion only serves to try to hijack pdm's thread, & cool drawing.
