    Alien god of lightning

My daily painting exercise, this time featuring god of lightning. But no, not Zeus - a little different approach on this one.

Well like always, go on and mock it up.

BAD ASS~!!! my only advice would be to look at some lightning reference for those bolts coming out from the clouds, the electricity going around the worm/god looks good, but those main bolts don't do the rest of your piece justice, too stiff and careless looking..
    keep it up!!!

It certainly has a whole lot of potential ! The main thing is the lightning itself. Check as much reference as you can, whether you want to go in a realistic direction or stylised version of the phenomenon.
I really like that there is a suggestion of scale and atmospheric perspective. That said, the clouds could have more volume to themselves. It would define the scale of the God even more and reinforce the perspective.

Not a crit but a question; is it supposed to be almost monochromatic ?

    More!!

Thanks for your C&C. Attached an updated picture with better lightning added. Better? Still anything with need to improve?

I dig the creature. The lightning looks much better now. As Egerie said already, the clouds could use a lot more volume and definition. They still feel flat and ambiguous at the moment.

Right now the whole thing is very monochromatic.. almost grayscale with just a few tints. Try a quick google search on 'storm clouds' to see examples of how color can be used while still maintaining that stormy feeling. I think some hints of color would really good a long way. You could warm up the clouds to make the cools of the lightning and alien really pop. Just one option.

Anyway this is cool but there's still plenty of work that can be done. Good luck!

The head/tail needs a little more work, it looks undetailed and soft...when it should be the main feature of your beasty.

I like the way this is turning out, the fix on the lightning has done wonders. I love the colours you're using and think it makes it more bold with just suggestions of colour, like the gold bands around the body.

My only crit is this: Is the body supposed to undulate in girth? or is it more like a traditional worm which tapers gently from centre of body to tip? The body mass looks a little lumpy in places.

    Can't wait to see more!
