    Great going with all the studies. Seems you try a lot of different studies such as those organic round shape ones. I should try some of those as well for more loose organic shapes. I'll be watching you progress.

    showing great movement from your base figure sketches, looking great

    WOW three replies! a personal best!

    Whitevillage & Runecaster: Thanks
    Blaz: Thanks; I gave that same bit of advice to someone else... Looks like I need to listen to myself more about my own work... again thanks.

    Now for an update;

    I got intrigued with Grim Reaper's Nightmare of the Week and came up with some thumbnails and a wip for the subject... I don't think I'll be able to crank out something quick enough for it... but I'll sure as hell try!

    Man I love how crisp even your studies are. You definitely have control over your pencil!
    As far as critique/comments, I'd say every once in awhile try to set yourself a small goal and post a completed or close to completed piece once a week maybe? I dunno, I had a suggestion that maybe we could all enter a DSG once a week or a CHoW or COW or EotW or whatever. Just lemme know.
    Anyway, other than that, keep up the studies, I'll be following suit myself soon

    Thanks Malakai, I do have a tendancy to jump between studies alot and not really finishing most... Right now I haven't had the time to concentrate on just one piece because I've been trying to hunt for a new place to live... (where I'm at really is horrible for gas mileage and I hope to get into the town that I currently work at, not only that but my family has killed about half a dozen cars in the past four years...) But as soon as I can, I have a commision that I have to dedicate myself to and I will show the progression as I work on it...

    As of the ...of the week idea, that actually sounds cool.

    But for now my entry to the Nightmare of the Week... the subject; most terrible way to die. {Burned Alive}

    A slow week for me...

    I didn't notice this earlier Malakai but most of my drawings are totally pen, no pencil... Mostly been using bic pens because they have a bit more value control.

    A couple more sketches to keep things rolling along... Trying to keep the moss off this rock.

    First the good...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    then the bad...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    and the ugly...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    Although I haven't been drawing as much as I should... I have been taking photos with the pinacle of ancient digital camera technology... A Sony 1.3 megapixel camera that takes 3 1/2 floppy disks... got it at goodwill for 3 bucks... Hey it's old but it works and it's better than some of the newer ones.

    I'll have to post up some of the pics as I filter through the meh and the ehh... Some will become the subject of paintings...

    More sketches....

    A couple of Painter sketches tonight... First a small environment study that was done after a picture that was taken with the camera... although it did some bizarre light correction, i kinda liked the effect...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    And after hearing about the late Gangus; I checked out his threads and was amazed at the level of his skills... It's a shame for someone so brilliant to have passed on. I decided to try my hand at painting something for the ChOW, although I doubt that I'll be able to make the weekly deadline... If at all I thought it would be just an interesting subject to try... This is my current WIP;

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    Curently just trying to sketch out the layout of the figures and planes... I was figuring something along the lines of the Hell's Angels or something to be thought of like Valkarie with either F4F-4s or P-40 Tomahawks (if I chose the former thought... I'll need to think a bit on this a bit more...

    Later,
    Shawn

    Sleepy but still working hard...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    Now I need to get to work on the faces of these women... They are starting to look creepy...

    Update, this sketchbook I will...

    It's been a while... First off though;

    throtailer --> Thanks for postin in the book, as of your question, I've been slowly learning anatomy for the last year hardcore, I still need some exceptional work until I can draw the full human figure from my head... That and some figure drawing classes to solidify the knowledge that I'm trying to gather...

    And now the update ~~~~~~~

    first off some doodles that were of below meh quality... Some bad, unproductive days as of late...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    some thoughts on a couple of the '...of the week' ideas. Although I was rather late on the EOW... and the COW idea looks too human for their taste... although I thought of it more like the creature is camouflaged in the 'form' of a woman that would look totally different... I dunno maybe fozzy would get po'ed aboot it...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    some studies for the face that I wanted to use for the ChOW... but allas the computer fragged the origional file with the layers and I had to finish it with only the latest JPG version... man I was pissed...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    Now for some anatomical studies from Ms Gordon's book...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    Finally something completely different... a weed and a flower...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    oops... forgot to post my final version for the ChOW... I still want to work more on it but this is it for the deadline; I will end up working on it on my own time hopefully...

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    I still don't care for the woman in the background's head though... I think I was trying to make it too small for her body for the most part.... My inexperence with painting mediums I suppose...

    It's good to see you doing anatomy work, I really respect that, something I've been meaning to do for a long time myself. I must say your nature stuff looks the best to me, I think you've really got a handle on sketching trees and flora.

    Nice work crazy dude. those gestures are really bringing your figurative work alive, they seem to feel more weighted and stuff. I like the serious medical type anatomy studies you do aswell, seems i should do some really.

    I think thy're is a few issues withe your last post. You already mentioned the head wich i dont think is sitting right on the neck. The bigger issue is you values, try working on your images in grayscale first and then add colour, this is great for colour/value matching. I looked at your image in greyscale and the comp is abit all over the place. anyway, cool to be part of the group i will update asp

    Thanks man; I was feeling rather disenchanted with that one... and I really liked how the background clouds were lookin too... I see what you mean though... I was trying something of a figure eight... I also found that I lost most of my initial information about how I wanted the head positioned in my original file after it got fried... I see that in the black and white I have a lot of midtones, no absolute darks... just midtones... I really need to do some more painting to remove that 'pain' from it.

    Thanks man, and welcome to the group...

    Thanks for posting in my book,

    you know............ you should study from life.....

    Hah jk man, nice meeting you in sketcher too, you do a lot of studies which is great and something I've definitely been lacking in recently. One thing I don't see much of is value studies or any drawings that don't look like short sketches. Color and lighting are so fucking confusing sometimes, so you have to learn it and understand it, Prom's guide is a great way to start, if you haven't read it http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm even parts you think you know read again anyways and if you don't understand something in there read it until you do understand it.

    Another good thing to look up is how to draw common things: animals, cars, mechanical things, trees, buildings, furniture(as boring as that may become), and costume designs are a great way to have fun and learn interesting designs aswell.

    And another good way to improve your anatomy is to study from some of mentler's threads on the board. Well, that'll take you awhile to do so get to it!

    Great charcter sketches. I'm having a feeling I'm a little behind on my character work lol.
    As far as CHoW/CoW/etc. We should all enter one this week. I'll post later tonight what my vote is on That way we'll all get to experience a little rush and excitement from competition!

    Again alot of very good serious study here. Some nice hands although some seem a little off. Your arms are looking really good though, cool creature aswell, hopefully see some more completed creatures or characters sometime. Use all this study you have been doing.

    Smartkyle - Thanks man, I know some of those hands were shanked... the problem of using pen strictly is that I have to accept the mistake and move on... This forces me to be more tactful with where I put lines (sometimes I have a brainfart but hey who hasn't). I do want to work on more character/creature sketches when time allows...

    Right now I have a digital painting for the COW -Time Bender- that is still in progress. I'll have to work more on developing the creatures form now that I have the general ambience of the piece worked out. Any sugestions would be greatly apreciated... (I would have went with ChOW except that it dropped a Deuce... pun intended... lol)

    The mad book ->> 9/23/10 <<- g'damn frackin puters!!!! Ghahhhhhh!!!

    This is all I have until I can scan something...

    great basis so far for your CHOW. What you said about pen only sketchbooks is so true, i love it. My last sketchbook was pen only and now that im back on pencil i really noticed an improvement and erasing is like a mega luxury that you only use if you really have to.

    try some ink brush work, rgey are even more pernament but your really start to apreciate the quality of a line.
