Thanx to Mr Man because he loves me too....er....for the topic idea
(Vulcanis Oryx Maximus)
The Magmaglobbers live in small groups near vulcanic areas. They feeds of the warmth of the surroundings to keep their high temperature body near to boiling point.
The Magmablobber start their life with just a hump and a small bump on their head. During it's adolescent period the little mountains on back of the male creatures grow, and their mood worsens. When, with age, their mood is at their worst, their top is litterally blown, introducing them to maturity. The adult males are recognizeable by the craters on their head and back. Because of their bad temper they will regulary explode when agitated and spew lava. With each eruption the lava settles on the edges of the crater and creates a bigger hump. The bigger the hump and crater, the greater the stature of the male in the groups.
Their explosive battles for leadership are a display of spewing lava and burned skin. The magmaglobbers have a very thick skin that is nearly fire resistent. During battle they are usually severly burned and often need weeks to recover. Eventually the alpha male will become too heavy or weak to carry the load of the hump and a younger, stronger male will usually kill him to become the new leader of the group.

do you have a email notifier each time i start a COW thread?
Finally I will participate!
Wow, sounds like a great idea! Is that possible? pld:Originally Posted by Fozzybar

Goarnusk - Though it's a mild-mannered creatuer, it's best to take extreme caution when traversing the Goarnusk's habitat. The animal pockmarks its nesting/hunting ground with thousands of highly unstable eggs, the contents of which explode upon contact with air. So watch your step and don't break any shells! This combined hunting and reproductive technique is remarkably efficient because only a small percentage of the eggs are actually fertilized - at which point their chemical volatility is neutralized. In other words, fertilized eggs don't explode, but the vast majority of unfertilized eggs ensure that few are intentionally tampered with. The Goarnusk's wide foot pad for even weight distribution, heavy mucus production, and motherly touch allows it to crawl where it pleases with rare fireworks. The remains of heavy footed creatures keep the scavenger well fed.

Finally a new topic! Explosives might sound a little too sci-fi for me but I'll probably find a way to turn it around... Explosive unicorn, explosive tooth-fairy etc.
It's a very beautiful bird with amazing colors. It's a real sight for bird lovers to see it in nature. However, because it's dangerous, there are very few people around who actually have the guts to find one of these. No one hunts them because they'll just explode if you shoot/eat it. It's lifespan is only 3 years. While in it's 3rd year, it'll reach it's most beautiful state. The 3rd year is the year of mating.
These birds are very aggressief and they like to defend their territory. It'll fly up and shyt on it's target. Yes, nice guess, it's shyt is higly explosive. Though not strong enough to blow you to ashes, it can still easily blow away your arm. Most creatures dies when they get a shot in their heart or head. (headshot ! XD)

OMG Cloister ! Where you coming from all of a sudden!?
I am In
I couldn;t work on it this last week since my pc broke down so i made this 2day at work in a hour.
I also made some sketches of creatures and SuperVlieg made a picture for me with his cellphone of oe of my sketches.
I was very buzy so can't finish my creature. i will next time if my PC is fixed.
the orolonis cannot life outside the waters since it's body will get overheated.
Because of this fact it's body will turn supernova and it will explode.
it lives in ocean's creating huge foggy areas so that ships can;t see them.
Once in a while it's fire's turns of so that humans can see them.
the orolonis is a legend and creates earth's atmosphere.
Excuse my poorly english since i wrote this in a rush.

while I know I tend to radically shift gears with my concepts midweek, so far what I've got for an idea goes something like this: the explosiveness is the creatures way to reproduce asexually. When the critter reaches maturity it starts to grow these hard nodules all over its body as well as having a bladder inside its body fill up with methane or plain hydrogen or something. When mom/dad's ready to disperse her/his spawn, she/he explodes. The spawing creature is killed in the process, but most of the eggs or whatever survive.
I should be doing the dishes, and something to eat, but this topic gave me an Idea... *goes to sketch*
I am totally awesome and one day I'll be able to prove it.
So the lava larva of sunpatch pigeons like to pop their shells,
but just before the young are sprung the mother gives a yell,
The shriek from the heat by the mother's beak is all the young can hear,
as they peg their heated egg and fire sears her rear.
Oftentimes a sneaky face might sniff a sunpatch chick,
but the heated shell will surely burst with fire raining thick.
So mommy sunpatch pigeons have to hunt for the highest hill,
so exploding eggs will find a way to catch a filling kill.

Must the creature or a part of it be highly explosive or can it just create or do something highly explosive?
A creature exploding would be natures greates mistake directly after the human beeing.
This one sounds fun!
oooohhh... i like
initial thoughts are mine will use it to keep warm and a happy by product is a nifty defense... among other things...
if you don't plan to get away, then you plan to get caught
Zeitwolf: I agree with steve huge here. There is no mistake at all. Any semi-smart predator would have to kill about...1 exploding creature to learn its lesson... thus the rest of its kin would stay unharmed. Of course, if the creature was highly explosive it would kill off the predator without getting the lesson through.... and if it was truly highly explosive the entire species together with the rest of the galaxy would be blown into little ridiculous pieces of dust... which in time (a rather long time) would create new planets and new highly explosive creatures. There, see: It's brilliant!
KaWaii: I am the collective subconscious of CA incarnated... and I want your dreams! Buh!
That's exactly what I thought of, too.Originally Posted by KaWaii
I have a nebulous idea of a creature that carries its young in some sort of pod, which explodes to disperse the young so as to avoid competition with the parent. Or something. I'll have to noodle on that for a while.
Edit (New Idea): Or perhaps a living torpedo, a biological alien weapon of some sort.

hope i can finish this time.. if not, please flame me to death.
The BOOM Bug.
My idea is a creature that has a hard "core" in the rear half of it's body. The core contains all the biological essentials for survival.
To defend it's hive, the entire front of the creature (just ahead of the lungs) will explode towards a predator, leaving only the rear half which re-grows limbs, eyes, etc. within a few months time under hibernation.
Why the rear half? It stores enough fat to not need to eat, but it may need to poo. with the lungs exposed to outside air, the blood flow and healing process are quickened.

Actually, the problem is imagine something that explode... and then?
I mean, things that explode usually die!
The topic is "highly explosive", which means that you are supposed to think of a concept which fits to this topic...so the creature does not need to explode, though it would be funOriginally Posted by Zeitwolf
I bet you can't beat him...he is like a shadow at night, like a Supervlieg in a COW thread you know...
Even if I don't manage to get an entry in I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this round.
Here's what I've produced so far. There's some crustaceans that release eggs into the atmosphere, and then the males release exploding "sperm bombs" to fertilize as many as possible. There's a bird with an explosive bladder on its chest, a creature with explosive blisters on its back (they can explode and it'll still survive, and a genetically engineered alien shark equivalent that acts as a biological torpedo. I'm going with the torpedo shark idea. Now I just need to make it look less like sperm.
