    Great 3D wip - the largest ship is a little too centered for my liking - as a point of high contrast it'd probably be better served with the rule of thirds. Also the most saturated area on the right is drawing my eyes away from the rest of the awesome city.

    Can't wait to see this one further down the line!

    Max - Thanks a lot for the helpful feedback, greatly appreciated! I totally agree with the right area being to saturated/high contrast which draws the attention to it. I'm working on it

    Barnik - I rendered the image in max with some basic lighting using the daylight system, then did the glow etc. in Photoshop. Hope that helped a little, if not just ask

    Now i'm going to bother you with more wip for my 3D scene! Will post much 2D in the next updates, promise

    Your environments are jaw-dropping! Can I ask how long these usually take you? Any tips on how to handle environments? I'm trying to improve in that regards which is why I ask

    Fantastic landscapes and 3D work. I really like some of the angels you pick such as in the top two from your most recent post. Gives them as almost amateur photographer vibe, if you get what I mean? As if someones gone their then quickly taken a photograph, giving you a window into that landscape.

    Hi aiRaGe,
    I notice you start with big soft shapes to start with an environment. I also noticed this in the works of other artists. I'm currently trying to concentrate more on environments and I enjoy it very much, so I was thinking maybe you have some thoughts on this "technique"? I guess it's just easier to start from?
    Anyway, I'll try to check back . Have fun!

    Robert, you're such an inspiration...Have you done any more on the 3D environment in post 334? With some texturing and lighting additions that could truly be an epic mattepaint I hope we get to see it soon. You've done a lot since I last posted, I really like the eraser technique you're using for texturing trees and getting the form of buildings. You have a good ability to make something look sketchy and inspirational, the way concept art should, and the details on some pieces (especially techie details - do you use brushes for those? because they take pretty long to create by hand...).

    That 3D paintover in post #346 is great, has a real District 9 feel to it, but you could have pushed the left box a little further in terms of texture at the left side where the corner meets the pipe.

    Lyno - Hmm actually, i don't really like to start with soft shapes except for the sky/atmosphere/haze etc. For me it works best to start with mostly hard edges. Have a look at my website, it's still under construction but there's some tutorials that might help you. Feel free to just ask, maybe i just understood your question completely wrong.

    Max - Thank you a lot for the kind words mate, i'm really glad to see you around here! I'm working an hour here and there on it, but it's taking me forever that way... but i hope to finish it soon.
    As for the details, i use a lot of custom brushes for the techy stuff as well as integrating some 3D here and there and a lot of textures. I really want to do a tutorial about this but time just doesn't allow me at the moment. Damn you school and project work
    I agree with you on #346, i'll work some more on it! How's it going for you art-wise? Oh man i kinda miss the good old space art stuff...

    I don't remember the actual settings, i just played with it until it looked cool. But nothing really special. I hope that helped a little!

    wilkerson - Check http://max.klanky.com/plugins.htm , it's a free plugin for 3dsmax and very useful to quickly get these surface details. If you're not using 3dsmax i'm sure there is something similar for maya etc. if you google a little
