This thread is a supplement to the Sketchbook Support Group that was formed out of desire of some of the members to get more critiques and advices in order to improve their work. In exchange for regular commenting in other peoples sketchbooks we would get c&a in our sketchbooks in return. This is a place for everyone who is in an SSG to post what they consider their best sketch that week in a single thread. That way we can all keep up on what everyone from all of the SSG's are doing. This is not a pure DSB but MikeCorriero has approved. Critting other peoples work is highly encouraged and appreciated even if you are not a member of the SSG's.

Happy new Year guys!! I hope you had a great time Thank you so much everyone for the support

ArtZealot - Thanks a ton for stopping by and the kind words, i really appreciate it. I'm still Waiting for the finally finished post, love the stuff from EverQuest!

Max - Nice to see you in here, how are you doing mate ?
For our first semester project we just work with 2D. But i actually modeled one of the ships fun, so no textures and i didn't care about polycount etc. I'm going to post a render later along with some other 3D for that sci fi room thing. The plan is to put that stuff into UE3, been playing with udk for a while. Can't hurt to have some experience with it and it's good to show off 3D models for portfolio. Haha don't know about the second image as well! Man you really need to post some stuff, it's been quite a while

llex_paul - Thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated! Usually i work at around 4000pixels width the more detailed, finished stuff.

jumlaxdulds - Sure thing But this is not spam right? Just curious because of the 1post and that signature...

    matejkovacic - Thank you!

This one was for the eow warzone, but i couldn't finish it in time... so maybe i'll work more on it for portfolio

Interesting perspective. I like the camera shift. But what I am missing is something interesting to look at. Like some vehicle/ship or person coming and more diverse texture maybe.

I love your environments!!! They are stunning and detailed! I want to do better enironments. Any random tips on getting started with enironments? I have photoshop so I don't excatly have the elaborate brush palette as Painter X does.

    Anyway, lovely!!

    Thank you guys!

Desertfire - I've linked a few tutorials/progress images some pages ago, they hopefully help you at least a little. And practice, practice, practice! Dont' worry about Photoshop, the brush engine is very powerful. No need for Painter in my opinion, i like PS a lot more. Also start 'easy' without much fancy brushes and stuff, basics are more important. It's senseless and pretty much impossible to try covering a bad composition with custom brushes and textures. I did that mistake, really start with basic composition, color, perspective etc.

Here's a collab i did with my study mate, he did the awesome pencil sketch and i threw the whole thing into Photoshop. So i did NOT draw the pencil sketch He's also registered in here, but doesn't post will finish this more...

No real crits, just an ideea ... maybe adding more frequently some human element in your awesome enviros will maybe make them connect more with the onlooker .

    Thanks!

Some color concepts for a portfolio piece i'm working on for quite a while now... this will result in a 'finished' piece i promise! And some shameless experimentation with textures and brushes on top of an older sketch

Loving those envs with the huge structures in them.
Strange thought came up when seeing those: there used to be buildings made that took several generations to complete. Somehow, with all the possible technologies of today, no such structures, that would have a similar effect of immensity and power, are built today. Ofcourse they would be a lot bigger than those kathedrals built in the dark ages or the greek temples, but still, men still have the same macho behaviour, if not more, than in those times... I wonder why...

The last landscape you posted is great. I would love to see more like that and also the more detailed cityscapes.
