Ive been MIA on these boards for quite some time, but I'm back and Ive got a LOT to show. Unfortunately most of this stuff was done about 1.5-2 years ago. I couldnt show all of this because of a confidentiality agreement with Capcom.
The following materials were from what was originally going to be Maximo 3. I was brought in to rework Matsushita's designs for the characters and create a lush new desert/tribal/cultist infested world. The project made it 3 months into development and was canned due to lower than expected sales from Maximo 2 (which was an exceptionally fun game btw).
The following images are from Final Fight Streetwise. I also got a chance to do some voice acting on this one. Theres no listing of which characters I played, but I had a great time with it. If youve played Streetwise, the voice of Kyle Travers is pretty much how I sounded when I was smoking too many ciggarrettes and drinking every other night. ahhh... the life of a game artist.
Anyway, working at Capcom gave me a lot of opportunities to redesign many characters that I grew up loving. Many of those supporting roles were cut unfortunately, and many times the design I had done was altered to look far too similar to the originals for my taste, but as a concept artist... its not my job to make those final decisions. And though I went to bat many times, bashed my head against concrete in frustration, ultimately... i learned to accept that as a concept artist, I must answer to the vision of the art director, whether I like it or not.
I left Capcom soon after, and currently am producing concept art for the Burning Crusade expansion to world of warcraft at Blizzard. Blizzard as a company shares many of my views in terms of creative direction, and hopefully soon I will be able to post images of my current work.
In the meantime, here is some final fight stuff.
those envo's looking real sweet, a little small though,they don't cover much in the designed area. (but I'm used to MB massive envo's so that might explain my displeasure)

Man what a shame about Maximo, I loved Maximo 2, I played it all the time with my buddy/then roomate Phill (who is a co-worker of yours now I believe).
Anyway nothing to crit really, I think the proportions on Hagger funky but maybe that is what they were going for.
The Maximo 3 stuff is off the hook, I dig you rendition of Maximo much more than Matsushitas.

I love the fat hooker, why the hell hasnt there been a fat hooker to play in SFF? I been saying that for years.... well maybe not years. Opens up a slew of attack forms I cant delve into here, HA!

Thanks for the positive response guys! I enjoyed working on Maximo 3 the most... and its such a drag that it never got finished.
When I was working on the Maximo 3 concept art, the art director really wanted to infuse a lot of the "keeper of the mazer" style into the game. So that was an inspiration, but my goal was to keep it only as an inspiration and not as a "guide". Some people will argue that "no idea is original"... but I really enjoy opportunities to CREATE, and hate when im given assignments to "copy" a pre existing architectural style or design.
Yes, some classic Final Fight and Streetfighter characters made it into streetwise. Cammy and Andore actually made the cut, though I also redesigned Sodom.

Wow, I never thought I'd find the guy who did the Final Fight Streetwise Art. I really love your realistic and update look of the the classic characters as well as the new charaters. Too bad Sodom and Poison (or is that Roxy) didn't make it into the game. Final Fight Streetwise was a pretty....interesting game to say the least, not as bad as it was critqued to be but I must say, it was probably the most vulgar game I ever owned.
I also like the Maximo pics you drew as well, it seems a bit grittier than what those Maximo games on the PS2 were like, (Well, I only played one of them) but by the art is captivating. I would have liked to have played the game if the aesthetics were like how you drew it. Now that I think about it, your Maximo concept art reminds me of a comic that I read about four years in the "Heavy Metal" magazines.
One question. Is this Character Damnd/Thrasher, from the first Final Fight.
