I thought that was insanely cool in a somewhat disturbing way.

I'm so glad it's not real , because this would be one thing I'd be against. I'm alright with genetic manipulation (some people rather call it genetic modification), as long as it's in a lab, closed off from the outside world. And only then on bacteria, viruses, plants etc. Not on animals. Call it hypocrite, but it would be even more hypocrite if I'd say I don't want to happen on bacteria for example (I have in fact manipulated bacteria myself... rather standard and simple modifications, inserting one or two genes, but still).

Other than the ethics involved the idea is a rather amusing (for now) science-fiction thing...

I second my relief that they are not real, because its kinda distrubing, and any fucker can walk in, buy them and then torture them for pleasure or something sick like that.

on the other hand, the REAL bioengineering stuff going down is pretty awesome, like them cats they geneered so people who are allergic can have them. and i'm all for geneering human embryos, not like we're endangered, and besides, it might be a great way to bond with nature, one day become a tree, that can move and talk, or a unisphere inside every animal on the planet, intelligentify animals so we can understand can communicate better.

    Because science can be sick.

They want to clone humans, there is even this idea of 'taking another child' so that when one of the older ones has trouble with organs or so, that one can give his or her as a replacement. And by cloning that one, it would be even easier to transplant these organs, because there would be less trouble with the body getting used to it.
Okay, so this is still many years off, but I am not so certain these strange and disturbing things will never become an actual fact in this world. I just hope they won't.

I can't blame the kitties, and it would be great for me (being allergic to cats and all), but I would not want a cat that I know is cloned and breeded so far that it has in fact a defective gene... (cause that's what the vague description on the website tells me)

The cats are not cloned, they're simply selectively bred. But with Space-Age Proprietary Bioinformatic Genetic Technologies*!
