    Tigahstyle's embarrassingly bad sketchbook ;)

OK. Well I just hopped on this site not too long ago and saw all this cool work. Blahblahblah, made me wanna draw. Here is a slew of some of my older stuff. Some life drawing, some obligitory Bridgeman's copies, and some original stuff (some old, some new). Please feel free to critique any of it, as I've only been drawing enough in the past few years to stay pretty much at the same level and have only recently started to up the frequency.

My guy I just finished and am actually quite happy with:

    Tigahstyle's embarrassingly bad sketchbook ;)

I've seen a lot of good art in these threads with those nice little details that I'm trying to flesh out more and more. Don't get me wrong though, I'm well aware that I still need to focus on the actual form. Somethings about this character seems off but I can't really put my finger on them. The 2nd ninja turtle I drew I obviously never finished. He seems horribly unproportioned, but I really like the pose so I think I'm going to just redraw the whole thing.

Also, the scanner was pretty keen on picking up images on the opposite side of the page, so if you see any ghosting or anything showing through...yah.

aww nothing on here is embarassingly bad! besides, anything with the ninja turtles are automatically cool

I'm impressed with the life drawings of the larger people at the top. Your cartoonish guy has a nice start too, maybe develop him a little more.

Cool start, i like the life drawing. The main problems with the guy are structural. His left hand is bent at an odd angle - it should be his palm on top of the sword, not his wrist. His torso and skull kind of lost their mass as well. One thing i learned recently is to go back and re-draw in your basic shapes after you draw the details - you can lose a lot of form even if you had it in the first place.

Keep at it, i look forward to seeing your improvement!

Like the arm, and muscular guy

I dont think its a bad start. You got some really good attitude going on in the ones with the muscular guy and his arm. I dont know if you know who Steve Skroce is, but if you dont, he is the guy that storyboarded the first matrix. He also did Spider-man back at the end of the clone saga. (a great story that marvel convieniently abandoned to increase sales) Anyway, you should look at him. Your work has a visceral quality to it that is something im constantly struggling to preserve in my own work.

Thanks for the nice comments and such!
Fishspawn - Yes! I completely overlooked that on the left hand. I will tweak accordingly. Though I'm at a loss as to what you mean when you say the skull and torso have lost their mass. He's kind of a lithe man on the whole, but maybe his arms are saying he should be a bit beefier?
FBear- Thanks for the heads up on Steve. I'm going to go check out his work now.
Chiko - I totally plan on doing more of TMNT down the line. I want to work on my anatomy a big as well as dynamic poses. Then I can crank out some hot action shots

Looks fine to me so far, your studies will pay off big time in the future, so keep at them, and treat these studies as a journey to be enjoyed, not a chore and you'll improve quicker.

What i was trying to say is that they don't look three-dimensional. I think the head is actually okay but the neck needs tweaking. And the stomach area looks flat because it is the same width on both sides and it's more of a 3/4 view pose. Whew, that was harder to say than it should have been. Magic man's advice is best - enjoy it!
