    did marko get ripped?!!1
    pinksuperstar.com

Dunno, if you've seen this, but I find this website to be very suspicious. Don't think this dude got any permission from either Marvel or Marko to use this image. The whole thing's kinda leeking art-theft, I mean all of this website.

    So... flame on? pld:

It seems to be a trend with a lot of shitty young designers to rip screenshots, illustrations, and anything else that looks cool that another more talented artist/designer did to make their shitass composite "designs" look presentable. What's unfortunate is that this practice, while many of us can see right through it, may end up fooling a clueless client/company and said hack designer may end up scoring a job they didn't deserve.

I really loathe the "sig" and "background" culture, and I feel like this type of horseshit is the next logical step for no talent jerkoffasaurs.

If you look at that illegible type in the bottom corner, the douchebottle even put a copyright pinksuperstar.com notice in there.

haha cody! You just reminded me of a guy at college when I was doing graphicdesign//
He'd get two cg abstract images, put one above the other, use some layer modes, or whack the transparency down and present the work as his own. And you're right, it did fool some people. Drove me crazy.

Note from bottom of the page:

"welcome to pinksuperstar.com i am e-pill, the designer and artist. i love spider-man and comicbooks. please enjoy your time here, have fun and tell your friends. PinkSuperStar.com copyright 2006"

Now thats just funny as hell. Good find Carni...I think this dude is fucked.

Guess you're right about that, rather Marvels problem, than Marko's... though Marvel also got the power to sue this guy into oblivion.

Oh well, but you guys are right about this new generation of non-designers, who think they do awesome shit by mixing together all kinds of stolen work. *sigh

It's a shame to see such tasteful artwork get slammed down into such tasteless design. This happens all too often.

    wow.
if you read the type in the lower right corner, it says:
"welcome to pinksuperstar.com i am e-gill the designer and artist. i love spider-man and comicbooks. please enjoy your time here. have fun and tell your friends PinkSuperStar.com © 2006"
(just saw sundance already point this out)

so it looks like he/she's claiming to have done all of the art here, which would include marko's illo.
marko isn't credited anywhere, and i'm betting he didn't get paid.
that in mind it's much more than just marvel's problem, it's marko's too, considering he wasn't paid at all for the use of his illustration and wasn't even credited.
unless marvel bought the art outright, marko would still have copyright to the image and be able to sell it for reuse.

this kind of stuff ticks me off to no end.
with the internet now, anyone can plop art on a page and say they did it.
they probably even have a hi-res version of the illo from the exclusive content section where the psd is downloadable, which means this person either is a member of ca or has a friend that is that gave him the art.

i bet this person didn't even do the graffiti art in the bg, and probably took a digital pic and traced it in illustrator for his ugly figure in the lower right.

I really wish that companies like Marvel would follow up on suing the shit out of people like this "even if" no money or profit of any kind was made, purely just to set examples and stop this pathetic excuse for rip offs from happening.

Granted in some cases young young kids 12-15 don't know any better but when it's an adult, they need to be set straight and examples set to scare the hell out of people from touching anyones work without permission or buying the image out right.

Sucks for Marko, but as people stated..since Marvel most likely owns the copyright it's their problem, though from the artist viewpoint(Marko) I would just be irritated by the use of my work in such a situation. Especially when it's not used as reference even but purely just copied exactly (stolen) and modified at that..which makes things just look bad all around..

Luckily this stuff gets pointed out to the companies and artist by people all around the internet who are concerned enough for the rightful owners.

Well, the one good thing is: at least WE and the respectable art communities all know who REALLY did the work. So it's not like this guy will get a job anywhere important from showing this stuff to anyone.

Ebay and Paypal have a site where phony phishing emails and contacts are reported, to try and cut down on the fraud. It would be an interesting experiment if a site were available to do the same kind of thing for copyright piracy and unauthorized use of images by so-called professional web designers. If it attracted enough attention, it might help create a basis for civil action on the artist's/©owner's part.

Why the fuck would they flip the image like that? Kills the energy of the original composition. And yeah, that's that's hideous nonsense going on in the background.

I don't think most people know the amount of work people can put into illustrations. Aloy of them think it's just an honor for someone's else's stuff to be used or something. Hopefully this icnident sets an example for other publishers as well.

I just had this image flash through my mind of Marko walking over to a large shark tank and trickling in some drops of blood...

The slavvering, gnashing sharks which emerge are wearing Armani suits and rage off in the Lawyer-Mobile, the low trill of an excited heartbeat in the background.

lawsuits are expensive. trust me. It can cost 25 grand just to get a lawsuit filed...and about oh.. 350,000.00 dollars to pursue it to the end.

that's why companies don't sue idiots like that. Usually a cease and desist letter from a lawyer will handle things like this.

Before Marko's post, I sent the twit running the site an email under my corporate agency ID asking how he was able to get somebody as vile-tempered and litigiously dangerous as Marko (and Marvel) to agree to letting him use the art. Gee...hope I didn't screw anything up...
