Hey, your figures are improving. Keep working on them though. Sometimes your colours look too bold imo. In some cases like the last piece, the character could stand out from the background more.

Hi sloth. THe proportins on the last one are off on the breast level. They're too far down, right now they look like a pair of really old ones on a young girl. The outfit is original and nice. Also take a look at the right foot. Something funky going on there.

Hey hey bud. One thing I notice with your paintings is that they end up being busy and muddy and sorta confused. Try slowing down a bit, making blocks of local color, deciding where lightsource is, how intense, what color, etc., then go in. Remember General->Detail. It keeps things more organized.

Also, I talked with Jason Chan about this; Using texture to your advantage- It changes the focus of things, and if applied wrong makes your piece look mediocre, but if applied right will greatly help a piece. He said "If most of the piece is textured but one part is not, it will draw more attention to that thing- and vise versa. If one thing is textured softly and slightly, and most of the rest of the piece has a heavy contrasting texture, that soft thing will pop more.

    Just something to think about!

EDIT: Also, try to use bigger brushes. WHen you use so many small brushes (good sometimes), not only do you wear your hand out, but your forms begin to misread. Remember to SCULPT the forms, don't just put in values. Remember value relationships as well, and how they can help or hurt eachother.

Justin: Damn dude thank you so much for the advice, yeah sometimes I keep reminding myself just to take it easy and stop trying to do too many things at once and then I think it doesn't look like I have done enough then I over do it.
And I'm trying to use all this advice that people have given me and trying use all the stuff I have learned from books and people and then I miss the whole point. I'm also using way too many textures and I know I shouldn't do that or thinking that somehow it might look good if I do and then I look at it a couple of days later and wonder wtf I was thinking, then a few days later I do it again. Confusing stuff sometimes. After exams are over I'll go back to basics and sort my shit out.
I should just slow down and relax and just paint and draw intelligently. Really inspiring post man thanks for it a lot.

Here's a bike design plus sketch.

I think I figured out a problem; You seem to try to use Textures to take the place of details (like on the bike), when really they should be used to add form to something- supplement the painting, not take it's place- Like on Armor or capes or skin or walls, not on wires and gears and pipes that should be painted first. I mean, eventually you will beable to use texture that effectivley- but I think it's best to just stick with non-textured brushes first. =)

Your simple characters are nice and definitely have more punch then your complex pieces.

The complex ones sometimes seem a bit too focused on the texture, and not enough on form, value and color.

    Post more.

    Cheers

Justin: Yup I'll make sure the planes read instead of having textures do all the work.
Oma: Thanks dude glad you like it.
Oddo: Yeah I'm going through a big learning curve atm, stroke economy vs textrue kind of thing, danke.

I saw this in the thread, this one is definitley one of your better ones so far. I can tell you really kept the texture under control, good work! Albeit it looks more like a shrimptank jellyfish, but hey Maybe throw some orange in there (complimentary colors) to build focal value?

Hey! Welcome to the SSG! There is potentials here. I thought your work has relies on textures too heavily in the past. Sometimes the textures stands out too much. I can see this in some of your colours too. There are some very saturated areas and they may be related to each other - Im speculating, but you probably get too excited and over do these.
The recent updates shows more promises. I like how the fountain and the nude lady is painted. If you can just select a few duller colours in there and put down the intensity of some of the overlays and textures, then I think the picture will look much better.
