    Emma's Sketchbook (update 1-25)

Hey there, I figured I'd start up a sketchbook. These are random pages from the last month or two... I've just quit my day job and got my first freelance gig, and so I'm looking forward to doing all the studies and practice and basically sit-around-drawing days that I've been missing out on, working full-time... because drawing on fifteen-minute breaks and lunches just doesn't quite cut it.

    Anyway... I hope you enjoy.

    hey emma !
Really cool and loose sketches, I like the expression in most of them too. Just give us some more colorwork.

Yeah, I know - colors are pretty much my weakest point. I've got a one I'm pretty proud of here, (not image-linked cause I it's Exclusive Material) and by the end of tomorrow the following sketches will have gotten the same treatment. You gotta love portfolio deadlines, they really get you off your ass!

Yep, I'm hoping I can get you guys to tear me a new one on my colors. Foreground colors and stuff I seem to be okay on, or maybe I can just fake it well enough for it not to look awful, but to get environment colors that pop the characters/object of interest out without being more noticable (or depressingly boring), that's what I'm struggling with atm.

Here's the horse thumbnail, painted. Probably 45 minutes. Another of my weak points is I hate to overwork a drawing, so I generally don't ink or paint past the sketch stage. I hate losing the raw energy that the sketch has... that's probably my overall goal is to be able to retain that life but make it look, yknow, nice.
The short attention span for drawing isn't a problem in my target profession, which is storyboarding, but I want to be versatile.
