    Emma's Sketchbook (update 1-25)

Hey there, I figured I'd start up a sketchbook. These are random pages from the last month or two... I've just quit my day job and got my first freelance gig, and so I'm looking forward to doing all the studies and practice and basically sit-around-drawing days that I've been missing out on, working full-time... because drawing on fifteen-minute breaks and lunches just doesn't quite cut it.

    Anyway... I hope you enjoy.

    hey emma !
Really cool and loose sketches, I like the expression in most of them too. Just give us some more colorwork.

Yeah, I know - colors are pretty much my weakest point. I've got a one I'm pretty proud of here, (not image-linked cause I it's Exclusive Material) and by the end of tomorrow the following sketches will have gotten the same treatment. You gotta love portfolio deadlines, they really get you off your ass!

Yep, I'm hoping I can get you guys to tear me a new one on my colors. Foreground colors and stuff I seem to be okay on, or maybe I can just fake it well enough for it not to look awful, but to get environment colors that pop the characters/object of interest out without being more noticable (or depressingly boring), that's what I'm struggling with atm.

Here's the horse thumbnail, painted. Probably 45 minutes. Another of my weak points is I hate to overwork a drawing, so I generally don't ink or paint past the sketch stage. I hate losing the raw energy that the sketch has... that's probably my overall goal is to be able to retain that life but make it look, yknow, nice.
The short attention span for drawing isn't a problem in my target profession, which is storyboarding, but I want to be versatile.

Damn fine work. You've got a good imagination and the skills to put it to good use. I like the animal projects a lot and would like to see maybe some variants on the same theme/animal. Thanks for postin'!

    Aaaand another.

    Emma's Sketchbook (update 1-25)

I've been working on a storyboard portfolio for animation, so all the stuff I've done in the past week has been more animation-conceptual than monsters-and-awesome-conceptual... it gets easier to shift gears the more I do it, but it's frustrating when I've been focusing on concept art and a story position that I want to apply for opens up. Most of the stuff in my sketchbook from the past two months has been more monsters and beasties and people posing, so I had to bust my ass for a week to get some new material that would interest people in animation.

    Whoo. Excuses.

Great lines! You may want to get rid of the sketchiness in some of your thumbnails. I like it a lot but i know a lot of people dont'. Good luck starting your career as an artist, and keep showing us your work.

Update to the sketchbook, cause it's been too long. I got a contract with a videogame company doing concepts and various drawings for a project of theirs... but still sketching.
