    Hehe thanks Odin

I forgot to post this. We had to create promotional pdfs for our advanced design apps class (me being in a graphic design program) and we had to create a 15-30 second video intro. Since Imovie at school wasn't outputting my cheesy little monologue I created, I decided to do it at home.... but of course with adobe premier and nothing but time on my hands, I decided to be a bitch and do it super cocky/epic for the piddly little pdf.

    Here it is:

hey jason, i see you've made some improvements with your figure studies, they seem to be coming along nicely, one thing that i've noticed though is that you don't play around enough with texture, every surface seems to have the same smooth or sketchy line-work, such as the dragon, which has nice form, just not enough variety in surfaces. it could be very beneficial to try some alternative ways of crosshatching... maybe rub and scrape the side of the pencil to get a different type of smooth and rough textures, or lay down a dark texture and then bring an eraser to it and reveal some lighter surfaces. keep on goin' man :-).

ChaoticKnight thanks dude, I'll put dark lines on the menu
    Alex Baer good advice, thanks
Aila In all honesty I was thinking about you (and how to make it ugly and non-nice-aila-like-dragon) when I drew that. You have the monopoly on dragons so it's hard not to

Here's some doodles and another muscle reference thing. 3 more to go and I'm on to self portraits.

Nice work. I think the muscle studies will pay off. But you haven't posted anything for more than 6 days. I think you need a kick in the ass, because your to do list is pretty long. I'm looking forward to more selfportraits.

Thanks for the kick cepro. I've been doing this and that but just didn't have the time to upload (mega busy at school this week)

I make rules so that I break them. I don't know why I do this.

Thanks for helping out, but don't bother with me, I think I'm taking a break from this sketchbook for a while.

    I have no patience.

    I don't know what I'm doing.

haha, and I've been planning on drawing nasty looking dragons for some time now, but somehow they always end up looking... pretty. xD

I'm totally loving your anatomy work. What is your resource? Additionally, I also enjoy the medium of "just gestural". Cool stuff!

Nice last post man! More of that definitely. As far as the self portraits, how much are you preparing the structure of those before going in with detail?

Exquisite Beast & Aila Actually it's nothing fancy. 6b wood pencil on crappy newsprint

ChaoticMike thanks. I'm not preparing the scructure much, I find that my face from a mirror is the HARDEST damn thing to measure since the distances are always moving slighty. I tried to capture the 'spirit' of the shapes more trying to do it quickly, but it obviously wasn't the best approach

great anatomy sketches Jason, I'm only starting to get into drawing people. Last time I drew a nude figure was at Central Technical School in 1999 on Bloor St., they had models posing for art class.

Yeah that into video definitely kicks ass!
    Keep doing your anatomy studies!
I would suggest you to do full figure drawings/paintings from your imaginary to check what you really learned and what still needs to improve!

That video... hilarious, if i had a company i would employ you just because of it!

So I pussed out of LMS. Yes, big phail. But I learned something from my pussout; I need to learn how to restrain myself. I have to solidify proportions and faces etc before I jump into throwing colour on canvas. Plus I need shit loads of more study.

An actual art update may follow tonight, but for now a commercial that got me applause (suprised me ) during a presentation.

For school, I redesigned wacom's (current) atrocious corporate identity and set out on a branded campaign. The focus was to show the old implements of various fields as stumbling blocks and showing wacom tablets and input devices as easier.

This is specifically geared towards novice and casual designers/illustrators, so great emphasis is on approachability and fun while retaining a professional look.

Funny title. (For those in the future it was "Welcome to PAINVILLE, population YOU"). I also enjoyed the pdf intro and the wacom commercial. Good clarity of the various muscles in the anatomy line drawings.

Heehee I find the little wandering "W" on the commercial vid amusing and somewhat.. cute xD

Why did you back out of the LMS? I won't take "I didn't think my work was good enough" for an answer now!

Edit: ok I saw your reply over at the ES forums

Really nice commercial, man. I like the shoot em up kind of atmosphere and how you handled the business field names. The pacing was kinda slow at times and I thought the interruption could have been replaced with the W finally setteling somewhere and the full logo assembling. But that's just nitpicking. I like it

Aila WELL, I could have forced myself to finish it, but it would have been shit without a total redo. But really the main reason is that I've been CRAZY busy lately. I have a website to finish, I'm part of the 'layout team' for the class pdf, so I've been having that to do, along with whatever other projects are going on.

    and thanks
Jabo Thanks Can you explain the 'shoot em up' bit?

Very amazing anatomy work, I have very little of my traditional sketches on the internet due to the lack of a scanner. I see that your anatomy could be in a book, but some of your faces are a bit awkward in regards to angles and the way the hair settles. But fantastic shading and light

You've got some amazing stuff in here, man. The dragon you posted earlier this page is superawesome, as is your take on Sonic (though I doubt it'll catch on with people like Chasethehedgehog). Loving the anatomy stuff.

really cool book man, your anatomy studies are paying nicely but some of your figures from imagination are still looking stiff to me, i don't know exactly what it is but maybe is the balance or the perspective. Try balancing the weight of your figure playing with the bigger masses, and use the middle line of the gesture in the figure to figure out the perspective too.
This one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1202096801 and this one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1207274314 are my favourites from the latest batchs, and the gestures.
    Anyways, cool as hell book.

    Cheers

Jason, I meant it looked like one of the old atari-style shoot-em-up scroll games where you pilot a spaceship and get constantly shot at. Guess that was intentional, couldn't happen by accident Oh and, top right arm on the arm-page is awesome

Meemoseep Thanks. Yeah I'm hoping that I can devote some time to face studies, I'm really weak in them right now
    ninjacat11 Thanks
Diego I know exactly what you mean with the 'stiffness' of some of my figures. It always feels like when I make a doodle it's nice and flowy, but when I sit down and think something out and try to do it all nice-like, it looks really forced. Maybe I'll try some more gestures.
Jabo Ahhhh I gotcha. I was thinking "wtf does it have to do with that over-the-top movie?"
