It's a good idea to post wireframes as well so that any bad topology habits may be highlighted and ironed out.
It would be nice to see you take something from sketch to full 3d. I imagine your painting skill will come in handy for texturing too!
Hey, see you're starting on a gun. Seems futuristic too. I would advise adding tons of unneeded gadgets!
3D Modeling is great, what are you using? Sorry if I misread or forgot.. Think you are using 3DsMax. Maya usually doesn't render looking that way.. It has this certain look.
When I was in the marines we had rivited handguards on the m-16 a-4's that some of us were issued, these were used to attach scopes and PEQ-2's which are a infra-red lazer sight seen through ur NVG's
here is a quick sketch i did on paper wif art marker a while ago, i included the regular features of a assult rifle then "teched it out"
try getting a book wif pictures of modern assult rifles, go into photoshop and change em.
The bayonet should go bottom otherwise it obstructs the operators aim, unless u make a camera or fiber optic attachment that can link to a H.U.D. so the operator can aim around corners:p

Thanks guys , I have done a lot of research during the day, and
sure, my concept maybe isnt 100% functional, but its a concept, it
will be seen around 15 seconds in a short movie, so it only need to be alittle
But thanks alot guys, the updates will come soon
congrats for your decision to come in our little 3d section ;o)
its very helpfull for crits, if you post wireframes especially at the beginning of your modeling career
and it looks that you`ve found the maindifference between 2d and 3d.. 3d have to be functional in all perspectives, thats why its a bit less free in creation as it is in 2d (imo). hope it makes sense what i say oO
ups than i`ve misunderstood something, sorry manOriginally Posted by DileHey man, thanks alot takeČ : Now I dont wanna sound
stupid, cause im GREATFUL for your way to welcome me!
However.. I started to draw seriously in march this year..
and I have been doing 3D in 3dsmax since version 3 hehe, when it was
new..although that was my big goal around age of 12, you know, becomeing
an modeller So what I wanna say, is, that I probably
got more hang of all function in both 3ds max, maya, and blender,
and also way more experienced hehe, this thread
is a "come back" Since I ended doing 3D models 4 hours per day
So thanks alot for your welcome here! I will be updateing today, since
I have also started the characther who will hold the weapon
in character stuff i`m more safe than in technic so i can`t give you the crits you need. the model itself looks clean but iŽll better wait for the char update
p.s. and pls don`t forget to draw, its so much faster than modeling. hrrr, if i could..
This 3D stuff is looking real good, I don't know the first thing about working with 3D software but I took sculptor in school - you ever done any clay work?
Like all the other people have been saying, reasearch real guns and adopt things from those onto your own design.
