    Great stuff!
I really love the lemur one.
I really like your line work.
    Let's see some more.
I wouldn't mind seeing some more animals.

looking good! like how you set the character on the paper by adding a shadow - looks well-balanced i think. so not much to crit from me - except maybe a tiny thing: the right shoe (his left) looks like it has to be truend slightly to match the angle of the leg, but that's just a detail. really like how you switch materials and subjects a lot. frohe weihnachten!

Now post #87 is cool! It's a very good improvement from your previous inks because of the variation in line weight. I'd say to do more in the same fashion.

Don't forget though to keep your hatchings lines uniform in distance. Also, when you have to hatch the the lines further apart, I think it's better if you use thicker lines so the distance between the lines aren't that obvious.

Your Coltrane picture is probably the best you have produced so far ! A lot of expression and energy in it and very well built. Bravo, Manuel ! Keep exploring that, it's very VERY interesting !
Have a wonderful Christmas, mein freund !

Hello! Its my first time visiting your sketchbook and I enjoyed it immensely. Lots great poses on your characters.

I also like how you are using pens and colors and mixing your media, it shows that you are having a lot of fun with what you are doing.

My only critiques are with your perspective and foreshortening on your figures. There's a few inconsistencies on a couple pieces, overall not hurting the images but they would be stronger and more dramatic. I have difficulties with this myself, perhaps why it stands out to me.

Other thing is to explore ways to render hair. Carefull about using crosshatching to shade hair, tends to turn hair into haystacks. Hair has form and flow and mass which when portrayed properly will make your figures even stronger than they already are.

    Rockin' stuff!

I think your hatching is effective. I was going to say: stay away from the random squiggly hatching like in post 48, but go a lot with the formal cross hatching style you do. I think you have a very good feel for it.

I am frankly more comfortable with blending than hatching because I started with paints rather than line drawing. I come on CA though, and I also do exercises out of "how to draw" books, because I think I need to be able to do both. There is an elegant beauty to hatching when it is done well.

I liked the raw feel of Oblivion and I was going to say you should bust out some more expressionism now and then. I think you have a good feel for that too.

    The Coltrane thing was awesome.

The two color pieces I saw so far both used the same two colors which are approximately complements. "Alternate complement" is an attention getting color scheme that is similar to what you have been doing. Instead of just blues and a red orange, try blues, a red orange and a yellow orange. Alternatively try the red orange plus blue and green. If you couple such an experiment with your hatching style (using colored pencils for example) I think you can get some really aggro color pieces to happen. It will be intriguing.

hey manuel! sorry for posting this late again. missed quite some updates here! great work, like the comic pages a lot - really cool composition on the page. are you going to color it?
"jagdmond" is very cool, either. ink and ink wash is surely your comfort zone. can't wait to see more from you. oh: and all the best for 2007!

p.s.: what college are you applying for?

will be gone for a couple of days, see you when i'm back!
    cheers!

p.s.: i bet your dad was really proud of you when he saw his christmas present.

all you can see is on the ref pic too
I was rly lucky with it

    the test'll look like this
    day 1 portfolio entry
day 2 at the morning look if your portfolio was accepted
if yes go to the practical tests
    if not go home ...
day 3 practical tests and talking to a professor

they handle it very quickly so if I fail I can use the portfolio to get into another uni ^^

I think your combination of ink pen and ink brush is working really well.

What is the name of the ink brush you used? Also, what did you use to color the grey areas? Would be cool if you show a progress of what you did, coz I'm interested in this particular style myself.

well I just used a bottle of drawing ink with an older animal hair brush (size 2 or 3 just as you like it)
to create the all black areas (after outlineing them with the pen)
the dot pattern I used for the skin is eighter created by outlineing or by the tip of said brush

the grey areas are black acryl paint with a lot of water (one has the test it out to get the right mix) applied with a large brush (size 10) to get big areas to have the same tone
the less water the darker the grey

you can use ink instead of acryls too but that's VERY liquid and hard to get the right tone imo since the ink has so many pignemts
some of the grey areas are created by useing the inkbrush after most ink has gone (the structure of the paper shows then)

after that i use pure white acry paint to correct mistakes or lighten up parts (maybe add a bit of CLEAN water for better lighten up control)

then a final of ink pen to add details and characteristic cross hatching (to show form for example)

    I hope that helps
I don't usualy do WIPs here since I'd have to inerrupt the painting process, wait till everything is dry and scann
