Recently I've been entertaining the idea of trying to do twisted artwork, inspired by the fact that Silent Hill has been the first game to scare me in any fashion because of the twisted nature of elements of the game.

Getting creeped out is far better than being the victim of shock tactics.

Anyway, to the point, design wise, what you've done here is exactly what I love about twisted, horrific concepts, and far better than things I've been trying to come up with. Plus the style works well, and though I'm not in-the-know enough to crit their production intensely, I don't think I cant fault it.

    Very cool.

Wow Ben these are incredible! The women with the swords in their mouths are quite creepy.. and special moves concept is wayy cool. By the way, I used to work in a video game store and we sold the crap out of the Suffering.. people loved it.
You should ask Midway if you could design some stuff for Mortal Kombat, cuz your work would do well for that game.

I loved the Suffering, even though the control scheme needed serious work the gameplay and design was top notch. Being able to see all this concept work is a wonderful revelation for me. Thankyou many times over

Awesome, awesome creatures. I love them, but I'll pass on the game.

EDIT: I also dig your style very much.

I like your twisted sketches. If you post a quick drawing of one of my creatures in your style, I'll crit your SB sometime this week.

Absolutely awesome art dump, Ben. I particularly like the clown lady (especially the 2nd pic with the less prominant clown makeup). Good job of just making her expression creepy without needing to add a ton of crazy stuff on her. Not like the crazy stuff isn't good...I also really like the dude that looks like he has an ocean mine in his head. Definitely right up my alley!

Looks like they were really fun to just let your imagination go wild on!

Hope to see more in the future from you.

    -Dusty

Yup! Good to see lots of folks in the area posting here. It seems I'm always coming across other Seattle-area folks.

Here's some more for you Manslauter. Thanks for including the link to that messed up horror art forum. There is some really inspiring stuff on there.
I know you like the twisted stuff so I included designs of a creature I did for sufferingII called the Wretch. They wanted a cockroach but creepier. How the hell do you make a cockroach any creepier? All I could think to do was give it a dog penis like abdomen with a Prince Albert going though it. If you look at the under side design it even has a ripped six pack for extra creepiness . Painting it felt kind of gay but they loved it. Hey it's a living I guess. They didn't really read very well in the game but oh well.

I've also included some old Suffering 1 designs and some other random stuff.
