    Hey there n1va,

Nice updates and you pencil drawings have improved like mad. Your values are getting way better also. I like that Cindy Crawford study. That came out great! There's still some areas in proportions to work on. That first drawing looks pretty good but one of the arms looks longer then the other. It's alittle weird how his body looks like it bends...I think it might be because his chest is so massive and his legs look maybe too thin. Just not too sure his top body connects with his bottom too well I guess is what I want to say. Gah...hope I'm not rambling here.

Nice updates though man and great improvements.

Love the background to the angel piece, it reminds me of art from some of Jae Lee's work. But that Cindy Crawford digital takes the gold with me! And I definitely appreciate the boobs+sword. Looking foward to more!

    Hey!

I really like this last sketch -- it's very expressive. I keep going back to wondering what she is thinking / planning to do... Also, her hair is very well done, and I like the design of her dress. =)

    Time to evacuate!

Irina thanks a lot for the kind words and leaving a comment.

While I've been doing work I've been more and more hesitant to post here lately. However, even though I'm not technically done with any of these I'm going to post them because it's time to evacuate for Hurricane Ike and I'm not sure how long it will be until I can post again. Hopefully soon...

The next series of sketches include boobs, I've found out that one can never go wrong with boobage even when it isn't meant to be attractive or seductive. Matter of fact I'm aiming for freaky but still oversexed. I've been getting little comments about my work here which is also part of the reason I've stopped posting much. Maybe people will share some thoughts about this because I'd like to hear them.

This one is a quick sketch of a flying female mage, it was a bit motivated by the Fates from God of War 2.

    Name: 20080907-Mage.jpg
Views: 1007
Size: 111.4 KB

Now the sketch with the boobs I was talking about, it was quick pencil, some vivid light overlay to bring out the details.

    Name: 20080907-Demonica-1.jpg
Views: 972
Size: 96.9 KB

After making the above sketch I decided to draw a more detailed drawing of her, I deliberately made her slim but also changed her feet. I meant to paint over it but no time...

    Здравей стари друже!

There's definately some improvement in the last piece, the digital works are getting better at the side of execution! But I suggest you to try something different my friend, do some experiments! I admire your pencil drawings! Keep it up I'll be stopping in your SB!

Clanlord, thanks a bunch! I'm not sure what you mean by trying something different, I'm guessing themes and techniques? I still need to improve on what I'm doing now.

Here's a digital sketch I made on my laptop during Hurricane Ike. It's a concept sketch for a bigger piece which I might work on in the near future.

Heya N1VA Sorry to hear about the evacuation....

An artist you might like to study some time might be Luis Royo... he has that same sort of quality of drawing that you are going for in your pieces.

I'm liking your line quality, but I'd still say stick on some anatomy studies from photos/life if you get the time

Good luck and hope to see you soon after Ike.

n1va, thanks for that... i wasn't really paying attention for that. as the japanese say, 勝手にしろ.

don't know if you're asking for crits at the moment, but here's a very small piece of advice based on a lot of your drawings--there are almost no concave )( forms on the human body. very very few. i know there are some "block" as opposed to "round" ways to conceptualize the figure, but be very careful with )(. I see it a lot in the waist lines of your female figures. try to think more like ( ) ribcage and ( ) pelvis.

Thanks for commenting on my sketches, man. About your ones: Nice SB, I really like your traditional drawings. However I can see some common issues with your drawings.

Themes: It's obvious, that you're that character artist type of person. And there's nothing wrong with it (though I thik that you should draw more landscapes - the ones you posted so far look really cool. I like the way you use all those textured brushes to create atmosphere. You could also try to draw some environments, cause I haven't seen any in your SB). The problem is that you basically draw only two types of characters: thin women (nude or wearing lingerie only) and ugly monsters with oversized muscles. Some variety in your choice of theme would be refreshing. Clothed characters, everyday normal people, some male subjects, old characters, children etc. Constantly repeating yourself is not the way of self-improvement.
Also try not to include all those swollen veins in all your drawings. There are so many different kinds of textures you could draw on those guys. Do some experiments

Anatomy: I havent seen any anatomy studies in your SB (thoug I haven't checked all your drawnigs). What I can see is that you have some knowledge about human anatomy - what you may have derived from referenced works - BUT THAT'S NOT ENOUGH! Anatomy is not the handwork of devil and no one can be a successful character artist without knowing it well. Anatomy can basically be used for two things: Constructing the character in the early stage of drawing and validating what you have drawn. Anatomy is the groundwork of any figure rendering. It has been said many times in many topics so I can only repeat it: If the initial sketch isn't correct, no detailwork will help on it. In your case: If the basic anatomy is off, then the whole drawing will be off - even if you spend weeks on it. And on the other hand: How could you check if the basic sketch is correct if you don't know what to check?
Okay, maybe I was too harsh - the situation is not that serious. You know many things about anatomy, but there are some mistakes you do again and again. (and the fact that you draw in a cartoony style is not an excuse - cartoony anatomy is based on real anatomy) Hips too narrow, hands too big, arms too short, and some weird things with the elbow area of your muscular characters I can't really identify. So take an anatomy book and draw from it - at least once a week. It won't hurt and you'll be surprised how much you can learn from it.

Faces: It may belong to anatomy, but it's especially important so I decided to talk about it separately. Your referenced portraits are nice works. They are vivid, some of them are even outstanding. (I just love that last Cinyd Crawford pic)
    BUT
Your non-reffed ones are off. Not too much, just enough to disturb the viewer. Faces and facial anatomy is one of the most important part of figure drawing, because every viewer sponaneously looks in the eyes of the character first. So if anything isn't placed correctly on the face or the eyes look weird - the whole picture is ruined. I can see this issue in many of your drawings. Otherwise very good renderings ruined by an unstructured face. Again: take a book on this subject. Loomis' Drawing heads and hands describes a very easy method to construct a face. (here's a link to it: http://fineart.sk/index.php?s=16&cat=14) Check it, try it, use it!

And last but not least: Shading: there's no problem with shading in your traditional drawing. Problems start with the digital ones. Let me guess: you use photoshop and the smudge tool. And you use it way too much. Especially in your female character renderings. Smudging is not something you should totally ignore - but that tool in photoshop really sucks. It blends everything, removes all the texture, blends all the forms makes all the painting look flat. I have two suggestions:
    - Give it a try and draw a picture without using smudge, and using only hard brushes (soft ones make the image look blurry just like smudge)
    - If you can't live without such a tool, try the blenders of Painter. They are blending without destroying all the texture information. Of course they should also be used wisely but they are much better choice than smudge in PS.

Well - that's all. I hope you don't find this comment too offensive,'cause I just wanted to be helpful. You're drawings have great potential, so keep on sketching and learning man!

Not offensive at all, you're generally right about all of it. My choice of subjects is a personal preference, I doubt that will ever change. The rest is simply stuff I must improve on as an artist. Thanks for leaving such a long detailed comment, I'll take a look at that link over the next couple weeks when I have a chance.

It's not a big problem if you stick to one or two subject (have you ever heard of Android Jones' 1000 self portraits?). It's just generally recommended to do things you're not comfortable with (it can mean of course that you draw the same object but with a different technique, with some crazy color schemes, or with tools - or tool settings - you don't tend to use). I must confess I've got problems with it too
Anyway, looking forward to see those aformentioned studies, dude

    Здравей братко по молив!

BIg boobs... that's cool! the naked body painting are just pure beauty for my eyes... pushing your skills in photoshop is good, try to experiment with other styles, more scratchy... more complicated poses... trying to understand the value of the figure by different angle this might help you a lot ... but I can't say nothing about your style, every person in this site is creating own style... for instance I'm creating some roundish lines which are extending along the body parts... this helps me to imagine the value of the figure much better! Hope you luck chap and I'll be looking around... Keep the good work братле!

Nice study of Tera Patrick I don't know how you get the skin to be so smooth but it's look great! Her head looks a bit small, probably because of the big boobs. Great concept of the Hydra. Sorry I don't have any crits for you because I really like what I see

Now the sketch with the boobs I was talking about, it was quick pencil, some vivid light overlay to bring out the details.

After making the above sketch I decided to draw a more detailed drawing of her, I deliberately made her slim but also changed her feet. I meant to paint over it but no time...

    Hellguard

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Cooper Snow: I like her too, thanks a bunch and cheers!

Snootchy: Actually I really wasn't happy with those portraits and never sharpened them up... wasn't even sure about posting. I'm glad you like them though.

Azrael: I responded in your SB, I'm not sure you can learn much from me but thanks for the kind words.

DC: p0rn stars ftw! I think Google got pissed off at me and de-indexed all my images from their search engine because of my p0rn stars tho. Fuxoring bastards! Anyways, if you check out the pantie thread I left something there for you.

    Clanlord: Mersi brato!

Anyways, it's been forever since I posted. Mostly because of too much work and a severe demotivation from the last few times I got downgraded to 3 stars. I've been posting stuff on my website and when we flip to the next page I'll dump them there. For now here is a WIP image of a demon I'm working on painting.

PS. The stupid dropdowns when attaching are ... well... stupid!

Ok, another quick sketch, first one for the year. All 4 of these are in about 1 hour of work in Photoshop. At the end I applied a cross hatch filter because it just looked flat. I used a photo of Mena Suvari as a reference, don't know how well I captured the likeness... I was aiming more to capture the mood and expressions.

Actually this was difficult, I need to do more of these.

I've only just joined, and this would be my 3rd post, but I have to say it's a pleasure to view your sketchbook. It is clear evidence that constant drawing leads to improvement. I mean the drawings at the start were alright. Not bad, but there are at times, obvious anatomy issues, but I can see flaws being ironed out through each drawing. You are also much better than me at colouring your work. All I can say is parroting what has been said. Keep working on your anatomy, have plenty of reference on hand, and maybe push the poses a bit more. Best of luck man!

Also: Luis Royo kicks ass. Was flicking through one of his books the other day at home. There's a cool art book of his in Forbidden Planet, but I'll look like a perv if I buy it...

A new year, a new page!

A new page is starting. I was really pleased with my last page. I want to thank folks for all the comments and feedback! I think from now on I'll concentrate on making bigger art dumps like I did on the last page. This seems to work better in terms of getting some comments in too. So here goes the stuff I've done over the last few months:

    Name: Dragoner.jpg
Views: 4708
Size: 186.8 KB

This dragon suset is my new pride and joy.

    Name: Dragoner-detail.jpg

Size: 105.5 KB

WIP for the dragon above and a detailed shot.

    Name: 20081213-Olympian.jpg

Size: 107.2 KB

This one started as a pencil drawing which I painted in Photoshop... the pencil drawing was terrible actually, almost threw it out. Photoshop did some magic though! It was inspired by a statue I saw in Star City/Russia.

This next one was already shown towards the end of the previous page as a WIP. I was really happy with this image, it started as a pencil drawing and I guess this is the finished work given in higher res here on this page.

    Name: 20081115-Luba-Shumeyko.jpg

I made this sketch of Luba Shumeyko sometime in November, here it is for your viewing pleasure. Wasn't really finished with it but I kind of like it this way...

    Name: 20081119-Daniel-Craig.jpg

It's all pencil, minor adjustments and corrections were made in Photoshop... I hope he's recognizable?

    Name: 20081213-Hooters-Wings.jpg

The hooters wings image can be found in its infancy in one of the earlier pages of this sketchbook. I dug up the image sometime at the end of 2008 and decided to push it a bit more... I had a background and all but decided I like it better as is with a flat white background.

Last but not least is another image inspired by the great Luba Shumeyko who served as a reference for the girl.
