thanx to [DAN] for the topic idea...he promised that he will enter this round...haha, no....just joking, he is a busy guy...

edit:
We look for a creature which eats planets and the creature must be nuclear.
Don't ask me why, you are the ones to answer this question!

So is that a nuclear planet or a nuclear devourer? Or an orange nuclear sea with a leviathan devourer?

Yea Im a bit confused here. Do you mean a creature powered by nuclear energy that eats planets? Or a creature that eats only planets that are filled with nuclear energy? Or did you make a typo and mean Nuclear Plant Devourer, as in a creature that eats power plants?

Oh man, I hope this is not supposed to be a creature so large that it can eat planets! I mean, this sounds more like a random topic of the week type of deal here. The more believable topics probably have a higher participation, don´t you think?

The sadistic hand of ambiguity strikes again! (Common sense would assume that like the last topic, only the creature is being described by the title... but one can't ever be sure...)

Why do you think there can't be creatures bigger than planets?

Not more believable, but more main stream topics...Wild Demons in company with armed Babes also are very popular, but sometimes it's better to try your hand on not so popular themes...i know there will be less - much less - entries than the last round but whatever, there is a new topic every week...in my eyes no harm only wins

Scolex- Nuclear Planet Devourer

The Scolex are a massive species that orginates from a completely seperate set of dimensions from our own. Their parallel plane of existence actually lies less than a proton's width from ours. The scolex are masters of physics, understanding on an intuitive level the entire nature of the multiverse as a single equation. Part of this understanding is the point that all the forces of nature, gravity, electromagentism, as well as the strong and weak nuclear force are simply different aspects of the same superforce at lower relative energies. A second part of their understanding is that gravity, in its lower energy form, can sift between the various planes of existence whereas the other forces are bound to their space-time continuums. Gravity can be manipulated between universes to send messages or retrieve matter. The scolex's universe is far older than ours and it is dying. The scolex no longer have the resources to survive and have made intrusions into our universe to accomodate their needs. Attracted to the massive gravity of our still living stars, the scolex pass into our plane of existence and anchor themselves on a stars surface. At rest, they are often mistaken for sunspots. When a celestial body of sufficient size passes within reach, the scolex extends its body and snatches the planet or asteroid, sucking it into its universe. Its body acts like something between a particle supercolider and a wormhole, capable of reaching energy levels akin to those of the primordial universe after the big bang.

Earth scientists have long wondered why there appears to be vastly less matter in our universe than there should be. Well the scolex is a part of the answer. Our universe is being stolen piece by piece.

So that's not a gigantic tentacle coming from this sun?

Nice topic, I like.

Hee hee. Yeah. Something like that. I'm watching Dune right now for the sandworms to get some texture/anatomy ideas, but in truth, I am really sick of looking at segmented worms, serpents and the like. Its just too, I dunno, easy. On the other hand, a cosmic sized creature would probably take a fairly simple form, in general. We'll see what I do...

These COWs look like fun to do.
A week to come up with something acceptable...
should be enough time...

You make some interesting points fozzybar, this is one that takes some serious creative imagination. I like the fact that some of the challenges are a bit vague and mysterious.

COW # 53
Nuclear Planet Devourer
Concept : Instellar Vampire
In 3211, when humankind leaves our galaxy for the first time, these strange creatures were sighted in the fringe areas of the deepspace....scienstis think that they're made of dark materia
Nobody knows where they come from, but the people are very shocked as they discovered the strange way these creatures get their energy - using their tentacles they grap a spaceship or station and suck all the radiation out of it,even from the nuclear power plants.
The vampire ( the media call it vampire like the cruely undeads from the old horror stories ) gets bigger and bigger with every victim, and remote controlled aircrafts leaving known area maybe will meet instellar vampires which are big enough to even get energy directly from smaller planets....so the future will be as dangerous as the old days

Great topic, I'll have to try and enter this one

Edit: Here is my design this far, now I have to get some work done. I'll get back to this later though, I love the idea. In the meantime I’d appreciate any critique or comments.

Edit 2: I probably have to skip this one, to much work :/ I'll leave the wip up anyway. Best luck to all!

Neo your start looks great but if I may suggest you should add more contrasting and interesting colors. I think you should try to capture the viewer's attention at the left and then have their eyes slowly follow the creature to the right.

Question:

Besides the occasional pencil piece, does anyone ever submit pieces done in traditional media to these activities?
Just wondering.

Why does it have to be bigger than a planet? Give me a spoon, some beer and enough time and I could do it...

Ilaekae - but it would be coming out the other end just as quickly, so that in enough time you'd be eating your own fossilized cat turdlings.

I couldn't help it.

fughi from yuggoth is your avatar the face of Terrence Hill? That´s the name of a popular actor from Italy who often starred in films with Bud Spencer. Is that him?

Fozzybar: Well, I can´t say there absolutely can´t be creatures bigger than planets. But I think something insane like an anti-gravity planet is more likely to exist, yet not very likely. Besides, scientists think it is likely that alien life forms also need water in some form and are probably carbon based.

Besides, the planet eating creature doesn´t have to be bigger than a planet. Maybe it prefers to eat planets in chunks

Anyways, it´s not like I won´t check in on this topic quite often, as I´m an addict

Cool

I'm gonna do my first COW!

Sweet topic. I haven't been to CA in way too long, and I think these weekly activities are sweet (and may soon replace real life all together).
