nothing like a good ol rest
    sitting down at the sofa
seeing a dvd and sketching ... ahhhh is good
so heres some life drawing of a mecha toy

    again the approacj is, questions
how would i start something like this
on PS what would be the first step
wich lines of the design can i use
as guide, lines that i can transform in
    perspective then extrude them also
start with some guide lines of perspective too
more like isometric not truly 1 or 2 points or three

mmmmm when i go into cloths
    drawing everything seems so squary
    when i do nudes is opposite . . . i gotta
find a good balance, also not to mention
doing straight on digital looks like crap

    heres some non reference sketches
trying to do the rythim line or force of the body
also direction folds mass and weight, it would
be a good challenge to try render some of these

    STEP 1
    build the wireframe

    STEP 2
    color palette,
random daubs try do everyone different

    STEP 3
Go on top and somehow place elements
    i might render later

    STEP 4
do another more accurate (still sketchy)
    linework on top

robogabo - Daily Robo sketches & Mo

    STEP 5
    Render and semi-design the characters
as i go, try plan the color and value and saturtation
    or each brushtroke before placing

    same as yesterday
more non refs, doing portraits as an
excuse to do color study too, same approach
and then render with the same good ol boring top light

well you know what they say
    about repetition . . . this time
same again how would i approach this
without reference, do the head then middle line ??
no do the eye line that connects to ear
then nose line or mouth mass not lips . .man
i suck at drawing mouths, anyway . . also
very important to practice how hair follows round
shape of skull and how the lines of force
behave on this . . just same ol repetition

even if the model is tiny on the picture
or is way behind on the crowd, how does it has
its own personality??? just by hair fall and skull shape??
position of head neck and torso... is really
interesting, check ian mcaig about this matter
he opened some doors for me with his wisdom

    doodles before bed -__- z z z z

want to try in the future to do
    more environment directed artwork
    specially man made structures
so got myself a architecture pocket book
and started doing some freehand doodles

    not very flashy
but interesting to see how your senses
adapt after a couple of pages and get
a better feeling about importance of proportion
    and arrangement

    Ghost_Dog:i use Photoshop,
about the brush, on the stripes
it comes in the default PS brushes
i think, the textured one could be
from some of the amazing sets
of brushes people post around here like
    M@ or Barontieri or tyranx . . .
be sure to set the brush on:
    angle jitter/ direction
    or
    angle jitter/pen tilt
i have it on angle jitter/rotation
but thats cause i use the artpen for painting
that way you can control the
    direction of the brushstroke

    >a before bed sketch having
    the buildings book
at the side of the laptop

    trying to choose every color
before the stroke . . . not fancy brush texture
nor much gradients . . sorry
not flashy also just plain exercise

    mo building freehand sketches
    keep illusion of perspective
    using tricks like:
    from wide to thin
    from tall to small
vary the separation between elements gradually

this guy was a lot of fun
made some perspective grid and then
some blobs and started building it
    from there . . . practice practice practice !!!!!

still a long way to go

some shapes repeat a lot and that
just makes the design really bad,
repetition in a perspective object with
the same width or height cracks the
    illusion of depth . . . . maybe ill
    come back on this one

Hey Gabo, I don´t know what's more amazing: your art or the lack of comments in this thread!

I found somewhere in inet this quote. I just keep it because it express very accurately to me what is real talent:

"Talent is a misnomer for accuracy which is the ability to make observations that have proper correlation to the real world, which is to say that the more closely an artist gazes at the truth, unflinching, and finds understanding and insight and then transfers those insights via art effectively to an audience"

... and man: you got TONS of talent. It's a joy to find in any of your illustrations that clean, sharp gaze. You are a human sintetizer of form, color, value, expression...

    Yours admired.

lol wait I thought perhaps we were not allowed to say anything because I too wondered at the lack of comments, ive been lurking in this thread for awhile, I really like your stuff man, I know you want better feedback than that, but im not good enough to criticize, just letting you know your work does not go un-noticed, keep posting man.
