Germany v Argentina. What was up with the salute?!

Not sure if this is off-limits. Feel free to kill it if it is.

Was watching the match tonight, and nevermind the bad decisions by the ref, etc etc. After the second German penalty, the shooter turned, walked away smiling, and threw a fucking sieg heil salute to the crowd. I know I didn't imagine this, because my five buddies I was watching with saw the same thing. Hand, straight. Wrist, straight. Elbow, straight. I don't understand how there's been no uproar so far, especially considering the big show Germany was making about ensuring English fans didn't do just that (it's illegal in Germany). AND the fact that they've already arrested a number of fans so far.

Additionally, I'm pretty sure I recall one of the German players doing "the march" (think Basil, in Fawlty Towers), which is also illegal.

Again, sorry if this is off-limits, but I and my buddies are unbelievably pissed off about this.

Somebody please tell me I and six other people I know simply imagined the sieg heil. Please.

Same here, so far I can't find any solid info about the fight, and my cable provider cut transmission right as the fight was starting.

I can't imagine not seeing the salute, though. Six of us in the room all went completely apeshit at the same time yelling about the salute.

Didn't see any salute. Considering that Germany is officially ultra guilty about WWII, that kind of thing wouldn't fly at all, so you probably just imagined shit.

PS. I saw it too, but I think it was just meant to be a celebration, like when you put your fist up in the air. He put it down quickly after though.

does this have anything to do with the fact that this stadium was the same place the 1936 olympics were held?

Is it fucked up that he did it? Yeah.
Is it fucked up that it's illegal? Even more so.

He put his arm up toward the crowd, but I think you're reading too much into it. Putting your arm out is a pretty standard gesture.

I heard someone stepped on someone else or something at the end of the match, which is why they were fighting.

Italy vs Germany, go go go.

Indeed. It's a fairly standard football (soccer if you're that way inclined) celebration wave. Stick your hand out, wave to the crowd. I saw the match and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary... Sinix is right, you're reading too much into it.

Soccer..........At least I don´t have to ask myself again why do I dislike this sport so much.

What´s the big deal if he did? is that relevant to a soccer match? Is is wise to discuss it in an international forum?

Pleeeaaasee...is just soccer, is just a hand sign ( at this rate no german can lift his harm more than 45 degrees??)

Don´t be so......human ( that doesn´t sound right, but I mean don´t be affected by obvious factors that outside a social context don´t really have to mean anything, thats for soccer and for most hand gestures)

You imagined it. By the way it was his left hand, so there's no way it was a nazy salute.

What game were you wathcing, dude? You and your friends should seriously chill out. I mean, come on, how paranoid can you get? Does it make sense to you, that, while Germany is hosting the world cup, (i think it was) Lukas Podolski a German player (he is born in Gliwice, Poland, btw) would show off a nazi-salute (it was his left arm anyway) for absolutely no reason in front of about 50k argentinian, german and other fans from all around the world, with hundreds of millions of soccer-fans in front of the tv, also all around the world? Half of the german team has ancestors in different countries, or is from another country.
Think of it again! He was running at full speed, he was cheerful, he waved his arms, shook his fists, raised a left arm to the crowd - still running. He had shot a goal seconds before! If you ask me he just wanted the crowd to calm down because both teams still had a good chance of winning he match at that point.
I am asking you again, does this still make any sense to you? Just relax... there was nothing to be concerned about, and believe me, if there was anything like that, I'd be going apeshit aswell, you can be sure of that. The thing is, there wasn't. Relax, have a beer. Cheers.

I blame the nazis for using such a basic salute for their sinister purposes.
They also used alot of black, white, red color combination which is very powerful of course, can we allow some criminals from generations ago make us avoid anything that looks close to their stupid salute or restrict us from using certain colors? I say fuck that!
The question is always what motivation is behind it.
I didnt watch the game, soccer sucks.

I saw the whole thing, but the salute incident never popped up.
Now how about that simulation penalty given to Argentina, that was so wrong on so many levels.
Damn you Germs, kicked us out...

Whoa there, I never said anything about him being a Nazi. Don't read that much into my statements. I harbor no hatred for Germans. As for the prejudice, I would've been pissed off if I had seen it from a player ANY nationality. It just so happened that it was a player from the German national team (and yes, I'm aware he's Polish).

No, it didn't make any sense when we saw it, and it doesn't make any sense now. Tensions were high, we were kind of annoyed at the non-penalty at the end of regulation, so we were pretty fired up over a lot of things.

Anyways, fuck it. My buddies and I read too much into it. Let's have a beer and watch Brazil v France.

Uh, there's no beer smilie, so let's have some vodka instead. Friends?
