    yo man, is this in pencil? its real good, except one thing i noticed, it ma ynot be true, but should the chin line up with the bottom of the nose (be parralel) ? somthing just looks odd in the bottom half of the face, wheres the DIGI!?

    jdeegz- yeah its graphite, i'm sure the proportions are off.

    lee - yeah i'm having trouble with noses for some reason >.<

    Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I haven't felt like posting random junk as much for some reason. At any rate here's a figure drawing - 2 four hour sessions. I either don't like this style of rendering or i'm not good at it... probably both. Still having tons of trouble taking longer on stuff, need crits and advice!

    I agree, long poses are hard. I'm having issues with them as well (though I guess my longest are about 1.5 hours right now). One thing that helps me is to start out a lot slower with the long ones. Draw really light when getting the structure in the beginning so it's easy to change. Another thing would be to keep a very sharp charcoal pencil, as you can get more detail with it and see more mistakes that you might miss with larger more ambiguos marks. Smooth paper plus fine tools will let you get a lot more detailed. A quick ten minute study beforehand might also help you out if you have that much time to work on it. Sculpt looks good, but I think you're premature on the mouth and the fingers, get the shape of all the fingers together, and the planes around the lips before you start putting in those details. Another thing that might help you is making sure even in your finishing stages of drawing or sculpting, you're paying attention to the shape of what you're doing, not whether you're drawing/sculpting fingers, eyes, mouths, etc. It's all just shapes. Heh I'm remembering all the stuff I try to do, so sorry if this crit goes on forever. Pay attention to the negative space around the figure, if you're having trouble drawing a feature of the figure, draw the negative space as it's the same contour. Check the shape of the negative space when measuring too, sometimes you'll catch stuff you missed before. Hope that all helps, have fun, you're still getting better.

    blue severin - thanks for the advice man, i really appriciate it

    for perspective we had a free choice assignment and i didn't have any ideas so i took one of my old digi sketches from this sb and re-drew it I'd like to go back and color it in all nice with detail and everything but finals are looming. Feel free to crit~

    I tried to determine the original that you got your idea from and couldn't. The perspective on this one is far better than any of your older ones. Interesting composition also. It's very nice.

    me thinks the mountain in the front does not belong theres, i think without it would make for an interesting visual, the wall would look strong and not to be fuct with.

    Nice last enviro! Definetely a good way to learn perspective, but it does have it's negative draw backs too. Main thing you have to be aware of is that starting from the horizon line and vanishing point can be really confining, sometimes it's better too noodle the subject for a little bit - the horizon and proper vanishing points will present themselves to you after you start!

    Compositionally you are having some balancing issues, for example you are grouping both the mountain and the wall together on one side - a better way would be to position them as a contrast. Do you want the viewer to feel that they are in a mountain region where a wall was built? Or is it a city environment with remnants of the geology that was there before them?

    Anyway keep posting, looks like you are having great fun at school!

    somedai - it's on page 16 and it's really rough. thanks

    jdeegz - yeah i dont really like the way it looks but it was part of the composition that i originally wanted so i kept it.

    rayk - yeah i'm sure thats what i'll be doing when i don't have to do perspective class anymore I wanted the composition all to be on that one side - it was supposed to be that they used the geography already there and build a stronghold with it.

    I am having fun. Except for when i try to take pictures of my paintings... Anyway, here are some so that you can at least see that I have been painting a lot and improved a little. The most recent one is by caravaggio - you can find it here: http://www.artrenewal.org/asp/databa...aid=589&page=3 . I dont know about the other one.

    Each painting is probably about 15 hours total.

    I'd like to see this enviro done; colored, shaded and all that jazz. It's an awesome picture. Reminds me of LOTR.

    Figure sketches look good. Good proportion on the doodles.

    Since i always do the maya thing i thought i would make a really nice one for my perspective final. I may add some figures.

    Note: I had to mess with levels in PS becuase it's graphite and the picture wasnt that great, so the values are a little distorted.

    Sculpture looks good, eyes may be a bit close together though. The pyramid looks pretty good, but the perspective on the bottom of the stairs is a bit off in both directions. The stairs should be using the same vanishing point as the pyramid. Best SP I've seen from you, but the foreshortening in the arms isn't reading quite right. When you foreshorten, make sure you indicate some overlapping in the forms, like stacked ovals of the different wrist bone and muscle bulges in the arms. Hard to explain, If I have time I'll draw it out tonight for you.

    After a long and relaxing vacation, I have returned to keep bestowing art upon the internet world! Um, didn't do much drawing over break, and i didn't have my scanner with me (and now i don't have the power cable with me >.>) so not much to post. First week of class is done and i've got a lot of cool stuff going on, but only one drawing class. Not much to post but i may be getting a new, better scanner soon which would probably motivate me to post more.

    Anyway, here's a 20 min portrait of a friend done with mech. pencil during anatomy class.

    nice figures man, last one is the best in my opinion.
    they all seem to have their own little.. slip i guess.
    but i think it is because it is hard to draw a straight line across,
    like sometimes it appears as though one shoulder is higher than the other.
    and knees are the same as well. I am just wondering how narrow 1-2 inches above the knee is, it looks to narrow on some drawings, but i don't know
    how they are supposed to be.

    Ok, so I've been AWOL lately. I've been relying on school for most of my art output lately, but i need to get back to my goal for this sketchbook. Gotta keep pushing myself to improve! So I'm going to start the speedpaint thing, daily. Let's see how this goes.
