Alright Fish, sorry I haven't critted in a while. First off, you have cool light coming in, cuz it's a hole in the ground, so the cool background darks aren't doing it for me. Also, your colors on the monster are muddy as hell Saturate those purple, orange, and blue strokes. Let visual mixing do the rest. The poses are better, it looks like there's SOME kind of story, but I still have no idea what's going on. Also, use ref for stalactites. You should try to portray light hitting a stalactite, not some weird hangy down smooth blob. I think your best phase so far was either #444 or the one after it. Plus the monster was more original back then. I think getting some kind of animal skull sketched from life would help you with the monster's facial features. Foreground stuff looks fine. Hope this helps and isn't too negative for you.

hmm that last one is lacking the contrast that was present in the previous ones. I think if you went back to the cool dark background and add bits of yellow, orange and red in the opening where the sunlight is coming through and some in the water/rocks, it would work.

    Hey fishspawn,

Last update is looking much better! I'm with Oldnoobie on the colour crit. The other crit I have is that the scaling is a bit off. There is too sharp distancing with the path to the dragon, effectively making the path not seem further but change in width instead.

Few ways to fix that, change the ration to landscape and play with that and/or lower the horizon. Also making the furthermost (is this right word?) wall darker might resolve that. I'd also stick in a perspective grid to make sure everything is sitting properly on the ground plane.

Other wise it's looking damn great, you are really improving!

Apart from what's already mentioned, I thought I should mention that his tail on the left of the island will have darker values than his head, receiving a lesser proportion of the incoming light. In case it's overlooked. Hope that's relevant dude, keep up the good works, will keep an eye on this dragon pic.

i think that last one you posted is looking good, but make sure the color and texture of the dragon is different from the stone he is wrapped around. I didn't even notice it was a dragon until i scrolled up a few posts and for some reason noticed it. he almost merges with the rock. It's coming along real good though. keep it up.

    hey,
i like the new direction of the dragon sketch , maybe the bright peice of water would give of more light to the rocks. With the faces look at wheer the head meets the neck and a little bit of nose structure.
    keep it up .james

dan liimatta - thanks, always workin that flesh and bone

    oldnoobie - thank ye sir

    guitarjames - thanks, useful crits

Trying to learn the basics of drawing the human head. I feel like whenever i draw from my head the faces are still too cartoony (when i don't want them to be). Doodles from school (one colored 10 min), face studies, mo work on teh leviathan.

Damn, that's looking better, now I can start gettin nitpicky. My main problem before was the leviathans head, which you seem to have fixed up. I would try to work with the path so it's more interesting compositionally, it's following a uniform wave pattern right now, asymmetry and slight chaos are your friends. There's a big splash? coming up, but the dragons tail is lying flat like it was slithering along. Also, it looks like the path and the tail are overlapping in space. Make sure you zoom in on the dragons head and make it perfect ( not more detail necessarily, just the structure and shape), as it's the vanishing point and center of the composition. I would also think about cropping that empty space to the left, I think it would help the comp a ton. At this point just have fun finishing it up and making it look good, it's come a long way. Feel free to ignore some of these crits, as they are personal preferences more than mistakes to fix.

    nice head sketches

The leviathan is looking good, start sharpening some details to get a better sense of what else if needs or if any changes are required.

I like that new angel pick a lot, you need to stick with it. You'll be pleased to know that we have added another race to our story, the Archangels. So we might have use for your character now.

Blue Severin - Thank you, having fun - will work in some of it

Oldnoobie - thanks for stopping by

arvalis - thanks, i actually designed it with the story in mind, and balancing out the cast of characters

life drawing, how i've missed it. I think art is more fun when you initially didn't want to do it. Some ones and twos, some 5s, a couple of 10s, and some 20s.

    hey,
last studies are looking great , life drawings to but maybe on the quick ones try not to look at the shape but just generaL proportions. On the digi the guns look a litle to big and the boots could use some attention.
