    Happy 50th balloon creature "Five-oh"
This creature can store a great amount of gas in it's small body without internal damage, making it float.
It floats around longer than a balloon, it's refillable and ensures a quiet walk in the park with your children.
But you better hold on the string tightly cause they don't like close encounters with airplanes.

    concept:
Mandibulaworm - 50 feet long and 50 teeth
These creatures can be found in caves and mountain regions. They reach fifty feet long at adult hood as well as containing fifty teeth in their mandible arachnid-like mouths. The Mandibulaworm uses it's fierce gripping power to lock on to prey much larger than itself, it uses its thick muscular body to constrict around the necks of large prey while its mouth tears apart the face of the victim. Mandibulaworms are harmless to anything smaller than them unless provoked because they only feast twice a year which is the reason they feed on prey much larger than them self in order to gorge them self in one sitting and store food for half of the year before they need to feed again.

    concept:

In the not so distant future, the Earth is ravaged my nuclear war. The species that are not wiped out by the fallout fall victim to radiation poisoning, and subsequently develop mutations. Eventually, many of these species began incorporation these mutations into their natural process of evolution.
Carnivorous jungle sloths are tree dwelling creatures that are found in the jungles of the peninsula once known as Florida. It has large ears and nostrils, due to its poor eyesight, and uses sound and smell as it primary senses. It only leaves the jungle canopy to drink, and due to its small legs it must drag itself slowly using its forearms. The trunk on its face is used for drinking and feeding its young by way of regurgitation. Its exposed stomach is covered with fifty sphincter-like orifices, which can expand to consume prey as large as a small goat. Food can be stored at length before being digested. The retractable tentacles that surround the stomach cam snatch prey from a distance of two yards, and are also used for assistance in mobility.
Here we see the carnivorous jungle sloth attacking a flock of parrots. The creature can hang completely motionless for hours, waiting for its prey moves within its reach before springing his attack.

The quinquaginta, a creature living on L-type moons of Stedtfeld Systems is originally a domesticated animal producing meat and working on the fields, named after the markings on the back (L=50=quinquaginta). Lately some scientist bread a race that produces a very delicious low-fat and sweet milk. Due to the high demand (the product becomes more and more famous as "Quinjuice") the newest race was presented at the last L98-S agriculture convention. The white haired Quinquaginta alba has with it's fifty dugs a second representation of it's name, now.

    tyrannus pistris
It is special kind of shark, which was found near French Guiana. This shark has 50 fins and 50 holes at head which hide 50 special receptors. Scientists believe that these abnormal things depends by locality where sharks live, because French Guiana was testing centre for nuclear weapons.
And it has big influence at local animals, like these sharks. Many times were changes bad and have fatal effect at animals, but in one case were changes like adrenalin injection for sharks. New sharks are perfect predators, many times effective in hunting than normal sharks. They are now extremly fast with their big amount of fins and special swiming style. They are extremly strong with their big body and strong muscles. And they are extremly sensitive at vibration and blood in water with their special head sensors. If they joint these special attributes to one concentrate attack, then is none in safety.

Diary of Dr. Mia Opppenheimer, 10/05/2030
Finally! After a long series of failures, our last gene-culture is starting to bear fruit. Just in time, now with the board threatening to cut our funding. Everybody thought i was crazy when i said i could breed spare organs this way, but they'll have to admit this is an incredible breakthrough for the world of science! Far beyond my most wild imaginings the latest specimen, we've baptized him Argyle, has sprouted a staggering fifty perfect eyes. We've not used any of them so far for transplants, strangely it feels such a shame to rid Argy of one of his limbs. Some of the laborants have told me by the way that they appear to be watched by the moving stalks when going about their business in the lab. Which is odd, since Argy is not supposed to be sentient in any way. Much like the origice which developed itself in the latest week. It does make it easy to feed our little (well, little) eyeballer. There's still a lot of open ground in this field, and it will be such a thrill to discover all the possibilities of advanced genetics ...

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Neorepto
    concept:

Three species of salamanders claim dominion over the country of Nis. Salamanders come in twelve, twenty-eight and fifty "tongued" varieties. Tongues refer not to what they keep hidden behind their teeth, but rather the flames that sprout from their backs. The largest is the fifty tongued salamander shown above.
Nissian salamanders have a complex and volatile metabolism involving the ingestion of large quantities of key chemical compounds that mix with enzymes secreted in their gastrointestinal tracts to keep their fires buring continuously. Flames blaze from pores on their backs, regulating their internal processes much like sweating regulates your own internal temperature. Like dragons, salamanders are capable of expelling fire as a weapon, but typically, the larger, fifty-tongued salamanders choose not to. It's an enormous expenditure of energy to use their internal fire as an offensive projectile. If a Nissian salamander flames out, it dies.
Fifty-tongued salamanders prefer to fight with their tails, thrashing them about, igniting anything flammable with an intense heat. In a life-or-death battle, even a fifty-tongued salamander will regurgitate their fire, sometimes at the cost of their lives to save others of their species. Salamanders make devoted mates and parents to their own kind. Adventurers who slay a Nissian salamander must take care to evacuate quickly or dispose of the bodies with care as the festering of a dead salamander can have explosive results.

    Emendatio
“… Year 2050. Mokka Planetary System.
Civil War divided planets into two fractions. Smaller one submitted to military guidance is eager after everything to be just like before. But the others, uniting 80% of the planets, wants to break with dictatorship.”
“… Year 2097. Mokka Planetary System.
Walking back scientific spaceship “MMS-290 Knowledge” docks on Kork planet, when unexpectedly distress signal is transmitted from surface. The rest of the bandwidth is clear. Message goes: … Kork citizens… the government can’t deal the situation anymore. Anyone able to move to other planet is pleased to do it immediately… and impart news about plague.
… “Knowledge” gets the last allied planet. As just as rest of the Republic planets, this one is dilapidated by plague. All regions turned into deserts and all humans died… eaten alive exactly. Small organisms, that brought total destruction, first of all laid waste to vegetation and then annihilated animals and human being. Analysis of planetary science stations’ databases show that plagues usually start at points where grass and grain were seeded. Probably these organisms were smuggled with the seeds for grain-growing. Unfortunately, no one expected such a betrayal, and the detection come off when it was too late to stay its progress. There are reasons to believe that Empire Mokka is responsible for that, the second side of the conflict…
…The crew of the “Knowledge”, the only survivors, decided to do the last thing left. They caught a few specimen of these dangerous organisms while they were on the planet surface, visited lastly. Then turned their spaceship to the planet Kish-2, the center of the Empire, where probably creatures were created…”
“… Year 2797. Mokka Planetary System
After probing Mokka Planetary System, Alien Explorer leaves this area and continue its journey. They are disappointed of what they have seen. On all planets and satellites, expected to be inhabited, there were found and collected only one species. They found also many ruins, so probably citizens left faced with great danger or were killed by these little but very aggressive creatures…”
    ----
    Emendatio.
This perfect organism is a result of scientific laboratories’ researches on planet Kish-2. Military scholars tried to create species able to destroy all form of life and being resistible to almost everything. Many years they worked hard on DNA chain to make an organism able to deal with all environments. Unfortunately organism was still far from perfection… After 25 years doctor Natasha Bazukin finally found out the way to make the creature indestructible… She put into its DNA chain another “empty gene”, 50th gene – gene of excellence.

The burning Phoenix-Cats of Abzu-Dal ...or, the cat with 50 lives
The old sorcerer Abzu-Dal created these creatures in his eager search for eternal life. With the help of some ancient shamans he succeded in combining the totemic magic of the cat and the phoenix. The totemic essence of the phoenix (-->ressurrect once) combined with the totemic skill of the cat (--> 9 "lives", which, for example, means not getting hurt by falling down trees or dodging other dangerous situations) resulted in a race of cats with 50 lives instead of just 9...
They are a lot bigger than normal cats, almost the size of the common puma and the force of the phoenix concealed within the cat vessel is shining trough cracks in their skin.Their appearance may slightly differ, depending on wether the balance is more towards the totemic essence of the cat or the phoenix. Some of them even got magical wings made of fire...
The old sorcerer used them as his personal guards as well as scouts. Thus, those agile creatures quickly became known througout the peasant-lands as the burning Phoenix-Cats of Abzu-Dal.

The Beast With 50 Monstrous Tendrills
This was going to be called "my self portrait at 50" - but i went against it! Instead it is the beast with 50 monstrous tendrills reaching deep into the rough oceans bringin upon the mass cull of all the marine creatures nearby. Its tendrils reach out producing scents and warm light which attracts the Grellen fish, this monsters favourite dish! The tendrils tips destroy the fish with the emmiting energy, which is then absorbed up the tendrils.
As the grellen fish is all the beast can tolerate to eat, it has had to develop many many tendrils...50 in fact to gain as much nutrition as possible. It kinda grazes the sea, as a sheep would graze a field. Oh yeh, and this beast would sink if it fell in....so it stays on rocks protruding from the sea...lovely

The 50's lures are hypontic to most mammals and each glowing orb is connected to a long tendril that leads to one of it's 50 stomachs. It's a fairly slow moving creature and has no teeth, relying on it's prey to succomb to it's will and be carried to a private death being digested alive. When it's supply of adequate marine life deminished, it was forced to more shallow waters, extending it's lures above water and enticing sea-going men to their death.

    The Chloromander
This fascinating beast is a large alien creature we found on a planet believed to be inhabited. We've found out that it's main purpose is to help plants and other living things grow, despite its viscious appearance.
We've also made another startling discovery, it's shaped like a "5" and a "0" ! It's probably just a coincidence, but we are beginning to think it has what we call the "Cowniverrsary" syndrome, which happens every few months, and make creatures ridiculously silly looking.
The average human is almost as large as the Chloromander when relaxed, as it's height is just about 9-10 foot. When stretched, it reaches in excess of 20 foot.

    The Cinantil
A shore dwelling cousin of the elephant family. It is believed the creature is decendent from the mammoth, but due to its aquatic affinity, lost all its hair save for incredibly coarse, spike like hairs growing out of its back. Its limbs are adapt to walk along the rocky ocean side terrain and pick fish out of the waters below. The species uses multiple trunks to surround and capture entire schools of fish. It derives its name from the fact that the sum of its extremities (arms legs tail trunk and back spikes) all add up to a perfect 50.

Voted for rawwad... that's a beauty, and I would love to see that thing move in the water.

There are too many incredible entries here to list them all. I feel stupid for posting my tentacle lure monster after Tom Garden already posted his... classic "you snooze you lose" scenario. I also had an idea for the cat with fifty lives, but it would've been more like an ordinary house cat with the shit beat out of him... White Wolf definitely kicked that concept's ass.

    Good job, everyone!

Phuzon: I would love to have seen that thing go the Cthulhu route; ancient evil, depths of space, devourer of worlds, ya know... but who doesn't love Falcor?

In addition to being completely in love with Jakkas' rendering this round, I loved the search for/creation of the perfect life form idea. And its magenta.

I voted for Flip's because of the most unique (in my opinion) way of incorporating 50 into it. I think the painting itself could use some cleaning up, but the concept itself is a really great idea!

Andrew also got my tip of the hat... just because that this is freaking crazy. I'm really digging your loose stylet too. I think everyone put together some nice stuff... so I guess were all winners

(andrew, you also get a wag of the finger, because you obviously disregarded the first rule and made yours "human-like" in the sense that its made of fifty "human-like" arms. Its extreme awsomeness, of course, well justifies this minor infraction!)

YESSS! I'm tied for third right now, hehehe, hihihi!

Well, I was tied between the superbly insane creature of Andrew Ley and the surreal epic feel of Tom Garden's sea monster during a sun set. Finally I decided that Andrew Ley, while his painting is full of energy and originality, he didn't quite fit all 50 arms into the pic (!) and didn't put as much time into it as did the Tom, The Garden - Tom Garden! So my vote went for him! My favorite spot of the painting is where the tentacles attach to the body right above the rock. That lighiting... gnarly wicked sick!!! Hehehe!

Of course then there is Phuzion, whose piece looks pretty friggin' sweet. His piece, thanks to the incorporated real stars, looks like it could hang in a museum, a modern one for hippis in their fifties

My little sister digs the shark creature by rawwad more then she does mine

scoonie's little helper is cute. Very cute. I'd fix the teeth though, the look a little flat. Maybe even get rid of them - it would make a nice pet then

Mike C. and Jakkas, you guys have had enough victories! Get outa here! (Of course I'm kidding very much, since it wouldn't be the same without you as regular champs).

    my vote's for phuzion

my vote's for phuzion - i can't stop staring into it. esp where the draco breaks up and you think he's all done, but then keeps going... the colours are awesome.

dragon - thanks for the crit. i got lazy around the muzzle and basically stuck with the teeth from the sketch. maybe i'll go back to it. thx.

    nice work everyone!

    Andrew Ley....

I'm in love with his bunny eater. I want one for a pet.

Also, his brushstroke economy is amazing for the quicky that it is.

my vote's for tom garden. the energy at the end of the tentacles contrasted well with the rest of the colors in the environment. i also love the expression on the creature's face.

andrew ley was a close second for me, though i think there should have been a tiny puddle of piss under that bunny!

It's a hard topic to judge because the topic's so broad, and consequently seems more dependant on execution.

Voted for Rawwad - great piece. I can picture it moving its fins like a wave for faster propagation (similar to the way a stingray would move).

AndrewLey for the menance of the creature, the many funky arm/hand positions, and of course for the freaked out and confused bunny.

The only thing that could make it cooler would have been to make the teeth little fingertips.

woah, so many entries and so many good entries. Hard to choose... hm... I think, it's dragon4luch... though it's surely not the technically best entry, I love it's fierce look and the body markings.

    Damn, hard, hard decision...
ok, I took some time to comment on the ones I liked the most...

Mike... Great as always, love the colors.... but it's hard to say why I did't give it my vote, it's just missing something... perhaps the concept of 50 was included a little too secondary...

cmcr 8286... the appearance and design of your creature is freaking funny and works great, if you had spent more time with the painting and background, you probably woud've got my vote... the concept would've worked without the nuclear war thing...

    cognition.sb
... really liked the dynamic and loosness of your picture, your best I have seen so far... the concept was a little boring though...

thirdeye... really lovely painted and creature design... but looks a little unfinished and no concept, so I guess it actually IS unfinished ...

Michaelmotion... funny design (especially the stripes on the tail add some funky flavor),good painted, good idea... but "I tried to create a creature that looks like 50 years old" isn't really a concept and 50 year old people don't look THAT old...

walnut... great idea, liked the style of your concept a lot, especially how it the creature turned from the Doctors view from spare organs spender to "our little eyeballer"

Neorepto... your best piece of work I have seen so far... keep up the great work...

JakkaS... well, I guess even the cow living 50 lightyears behind the moon knows by now how good your stuff is.... liked the "bio-mechanical" touch of the creature... the design of its head is outstanding... the concept, while good once understood, is a little confusing, probably because of the english....

Migsta... damn, like the creature and painting a lot.... pitty the concept of 50 is implemented a little weak...

Dragon4Lunch... hehe, nasty little critter, great how you actually managed to implement the number 50 without the design looking cheesy... a little bit more depth in the background painting would be great, there's too little contrast to the foreground... try to get some material on how to achieve depht int he enviroment (color/air-perspective etc etc)

AndrewLey... man, looks awesome... pitty it doesn't have enough arms and no concept...well, and I think it's still to rough to be a cow winner...

Bammer... just great, like the wet touch on it's skin...

Phuzion... really awesome man... but you didn't get my vote because in the end it's not a real painting but it looks fantastic...would make a great poster!

Flip... I think it's probalby the most outstanding implementation of 50 of all concepts...

well, so it comes down to either Tom Garden or Rawwad...man... can I give like half vote to each of them...no?...ok...hmm...altough rawwads shark blew me away, the misplaced lower jaw of the shark seemed to stand out more and more as I looked at it...so my vote goes to Tom Garden.

    Phew, thats it...

keep on rockin' people.... and sorry for my crits on guys who are way better than I am...

Woh what a tough one, everything here is spectacular... It came down to a couple for me, Phuzion and Andrew Ley, I gave my vote to phuzion because I love the concept of a space nebula creature. But andrew that is some freeking funny stuff and a great painting. I really like the art work of Tom garden, dragon4lunch, Migsta, cognition.sb, bammer, Mike, Jakkas, rawwad, MichaelMotion, and walnut. Such a tough one this time way too many good entries, everyone had some nice artwork, but my deciding factor was the concept itself. to phuzion, great concept brother, and hope i can get a full rez of the final.

White Wolf - you're right, it's not finished. I had no time to write the description either - exams. I was suprised to see it in the poll.

My vote went to Jakkas - beautiful colors mate, nice idea too.

    so....the big crit!!!!

    scoonie
Its a nice shape and pose in this design, the teethc and the eye let this down a lot tho, the fur is rendered nicely! I think your 50 tail bits are a weak point too, which for this COW should be a stronger point.

    Uziel
HAHA, a VERY happy COW it is indeed! so many good entries!

    MIKECORRIERO
Not your best, the brushwork in the main pics is a bit blobby in places - i'm guessing you didnt have much time this week perhaps?

    cmr8286
SPHIIIIIINCTERS......nice...i love the idea, just felt that it looks a bit unfinished overall, such as the background and some of the character elements.

    Zeitwolf
Clever utilisation of the 50 concept, just a shame the artwork didnt pack as hard a punch!

    cognition.sb
VEERY nice work - i like how you have made a mess of brushtrokes into detailed parts where necessary, as well as the hues involved I will be practicing similar work to try it out hehe...the 50 theme should have been stronger tho

    rawwad
This is initially stunning and well exectued, but i would just tighten up the tail fin rendering, looks a bit splodgy. I find the holes in the head bit really creepy! good stuff! .......(btw, being picky, but sharks dont exhale air! eheheh)

    thirdeye
Looks a tad unfinished around the eyes and tentacles...was loving the pencil sketch tho - if you add a shadow to give it some quality in the white space it will really place the concept in the frame nicely

    MichaelMotion
hehe, 50 year old - looks like someone i know hah! you have a consitent style with this, i'd watch out with using too much white for higlights tho!

    walnut
AHH, the lighting is nice and warm in this one, overall well lit and made, i'd love to have seen more detail on the creature than the background tho.

    Neorepto
The hardest thing with this is that the creature and the background are pretty similar in shapes and brushes, if you differentiate the two, the creature will really stand out. Also, look at some ref for the fire..it will really tighten it up.

    JakkaS
I'm impressed with the intricate description, but not so amazed as usual with the design considering this weeks theme. I think it was a bit of a cop out on the idea of 50 - you could have painted whatever you wanted and added your description, which for me kinda looses the point.

    White Wolf
I almost went down the pussycat route myself! again like Neorepto i think looking at more ref fire would help, as it doesnt scream fire at me right now

    Migsta
I think the stripes need to be a lot brighter or glowing, the tone they are right now they dont show up enough - you want to be going, those are bright what are they all about?!?!

    dragon4lunch
I like how this turned out from the WIP's i saw, the face is great! i think the "5" is a bit more of an "s" but thats being very picky, the background is a little dull in tonal value compared to the light cast on the creature.

    Lady Medusa
I think the eyes werent clearly eyes! They either needed pupils, of not quite as harsh a reflection high spot on them. Also the wings are a little to clear, just beef them up with some subtle layers of colour.

    Tom Garden
My biggest troubles is that i forgot how to make a sea brush that was working really wel!! haha also - i wish i could have seen much more of this creature, jsut didnt have the time. Also the bit closest to us, should have some clearer rendering on it, more texture etc!

    Andrew Ley
first off, this is excellent for all the reasons people have said and i agree....but - i wouldnt have let this in...because it is clearly humanoid. You have created this creature from human anatomy and characteristic. Now, i dont know fozz's particular rule for humanoid pieces, but despite how well painted and executed this piece is, the fact that its blatently human parts, kinda puts me off it cos its a COW subject....dont get me wrong, its a strong piece!

    Tex
The thing i'd love to see, is some more machinery and straps attaching the bit at the back to him, the yellowy tonails are a bit to strong, and overpower the leg parts a tad.

    anticonnor
ehhe, similar to me the main painting could be tightened up around the edge a bit, and bring out the highlights and this will look even better

    Asoir
What happened to the 3d piece? i liked how that was looking, this piece doesnt reflect how well you were modelling the creature.

    Bammer
Some tight rendering and colour usage here, i think you need to add some more highlights to the head and near thigh. And maybe some more creases on the trunks!

    Phuzion
This isnt my thing, and mainly cos you have mostly put it together from photographs adn then added your creature, and i dont think the creature fully suits its environment, sorry, just not my thing - tho it is well put together!

    FunkytownP
how lovely haha, it currently looks a bit flat, push back one side with lighting, as well as that - i'd watch out how you paint the dribble.

    Flip
I really like the way you have figured out the 50 shape to be like footprints! tho i felt the final piece was pretty unfinished! Great use of the 50 idea within the concept!

Man, this is an interesting race. It looked like Tom Garden, Phuzion and Bammer were going to duke it out for second place. Then the shark with 50 fins crept up on them and now swam right past them! I say, stop the madness and just vote for me! Hehehehehehehe...

Voted for Jakkas, because I like the idea of the seed, instead of growing into a tree, grows into an insect and also the similarites between the grown creature and its larva form.

    Pretty realistic idea.
