Heres the oil portrait ive been working on for the past couple of weeks at the long island academy of fine art.
Hey man, dropping by.
Really like your anatomy/figure drawing. You should post more of those, they are really nice.
Keep up the good work.

Just like those man.

Inspiring, dude! I've been looking at SVA too. Went to the open house a few months ago. Are you going to take their pre-college program for animation this January? Which part of NY are you from?
Those figure studies are great, but this cartoon...not so much.
It's just very melty, and messy, and not nearly as well constructed as your figure drawings. There's no line variation at the bottom either. And the compostion is kinda...yucky. I'm a beginner to that though, so I won't cut you down for it.
Heh, you and I are opposites. College wants me to do more realism, less cartoons, and they want you to do more cartoons, less realism. Oy.
Thanks a lot eminkey! I am not going to take their pre college program but I did already take a pre college program this past summer at Otis College (otis.edu) and Im from the east end of Long Island. Yes, you are absolutely right about the cartoon, Im new to this cartoon character stuff so im trying to improve. But I think it sort of compliments my other stuff well. Good luck with your portfolio! you should start a sketchbook!
Awesome anatomy studies, I really like the way their constructed http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8060/7ft9.jpg
Basically what JackWhat said man! Except I think I might give it go myself!
Only advice I can give is to stay loose and enjoy it, not that you have a problem with that at all. But, again what 'JackWhat' said about drawing to a formula...of course I guess that could always be your prefered way...hell what do i know lol Im new too.
Apologies for the lack of critique.
Keep at it man!
Whos God?!?.....'God... well you know when you really wish for something?'...yeh??.. 'He is the guy that ignores you.'!
is the Elixer..
mhm i am in sheridan foundies so dont take my words too seriously, i did alot of fine art stuff during high school. I found its hard to draw cartoony when i do my portfolio. try to do or post some charactor designs, because it is worth 30% over all mark of the sheridan animation portifolio
rblitz7 keep doing what you're doing!!!! Just excellent studies going on here. I think you're tackling your studies with some really quality drawings like in posts#12, 73, 94. What I see is a rather good eye for figure proportion and thoughtful attack on your shapes. You observation sense is growing. If this pace is kept up at honing your skills, you're going to be producing some fine, top class work in the near future.
In your oil head study, you have a good start, but, I would say to revisit the proportions of the head (Loomis). Feels like the eye is a little too large and too far forward of the socket throwing off the rest of the proportion of the features. Makes it seem like there is not enough skull. Nose seems in balance to size of head, but lips also feel out of balance. Wish I could see the actual image to better advise.
In any case, your SB has some great stuff going on in it. Impressed. Keep at at!!
P.S. As I see it, humans are inherently creatures of structure. All the old and new masters have used concepts or "formulas" that a previous artist had figured out and refined, so that the next generations, fortunately, didn't spend a life time getting to that same point. Why struggle over an issue that already has an answer? Other wise art would be back in the middle ages ignoring the greek's astounding contribution to understanding the figure. All art, abtstract or representational is borrowed and built over someone's previous studies, at the very least, as a basis for their own explorations. Just me 3 cents

Thanks for the info aznsalad!
Ah thanks so much for commenting on my sb AztcFireFlower! I see what your saying about the eye in the oil portrait but the thing is it was from a model so cant go back to correct it. But thanks for kind words! gave me a little boost in my inspiration. lol.
well heres just a few sketches, nothing special but eh, its what I got for now.
Im really getting figure drawing deprived! why cant people just walk around naked?
Very nice recent work. Like the line quality in your sketches. What paper are you using?
Strong Island, represent! I'm from Suffolk, actually. Wow, what a nice surprise to see a local artist. Are these from a life drawing class or refs? Your solid construction has really got me thinking about my own.
I see good solid studies here <> To answer your question it is a system I have developed and you will not find this same material anywhere else.
From my last visit you put a lot of good stuff in your SB, but keep more updates man, cheers
make sure to double check the spacing between the eyes, your last portraits are nice but the eyes look to close. there should usually be room for one eye inbetween the eyes. keep it up.
Hey thanks for stopping by my SB. Those last two portraits are great. Don't worry about not sending it with the rest of your stuff, the portfolio you sent looked awesome. It's a good chance that you made the cut into Ringling too Great Sketchbook - and good luck.
You're really good for being in HS! (You'd probably get in anywhere you applied I'd assume.)
Hey Blitz, some really nice studies, congrats for getting into Ringling. Youve got some very nice studies and paintings here, youre setting up a solid foundation for what is to come. My only crit is to be careful, on some of these portraits the eyes are too close to each other and sometimes too large, keep an eye out for that. Otherwise, keep up the good work mate, some real nice stuff here.
