Thanks. I've always been a huge fan of negative space.
me too, just wish i could do it better

Actually I use carpet for this. But pretty much the same technique. The problem here seemed to be less the tape and more the quality of compression in the moleskine page. Post-moisture the top layer just didn't want to stick to the ply beneath.
ah, i see, fair enough, hehe

In the pantheon of artists who work for 40K there is such an incredibly inconsistent standard for rendering bolters that it's hard to know what the "right" size should be. Look at a mini and the bolter is length of a Space Marine's entire torso
of course, you are right, considering the number of patterns of bolter (of any gun really) its probably best to do it your way. personally i try to get them all the same size, especially if im drawing personal stuff (not for school projects) because its mostly all based around one chapter (jesus i feel like a nerd some days) who would naturally all carry gear of the same pattern...

Aryeh - Thanks! Yes. These drawings are literally the most fun I have these days. It's interesting I'm in a place where drawing is more exciting than T.V., Movies or PS3. I've got a DVD from NetFlix sitting on my T.V. stand collecting dust. Even my 40K minis are in the basement begging me to come down and give them some quality time. It's new territory for me... I only wish I hadn't waited until I was 37 to focus like this.

PsiBug - Thanks. I really wish I was a little more creative when it came to tattoos. As it is I pour through magazines hunting for inspiration. I don't cop anyone's designs mind you. But I do need the inspiration to accomplish anything.

    OK. Now today's update...

    A cartoonish Knight.
Another render of Mae from Legendary Sisters of the Laughing Doggebi
And two WIP in previews in a new less spammy size.

I use fabercastle graytone markers on moleskine. The Mae background was done using a spritz bottle full of water diluted ink.

I just realized that I missed a big block of the "Things" series. Let me post them up.

    Thing 43: The Excellent Wife

prsnsweeney, unfortunately I haven't found a way to do the necessary masking with moleskine without destroying the paper. the only reason that mae looks OK is because i had a preliminary scan and photoshopped the undestroyed version over the splatter version.

like the shadow designs on the last post very simple but describes the shape well and hmmm the digital method looks good what have you tried for masking or does the ink bleed under the mask once you spray it on???

Very cool stuff! I really like the way line and as someone else said, your stuff has alot of energy.

"This is a paint and pixel-splattered furnace that forges the swords of artistic mastery. This is a place where swarthy and belligerent dwarves drink turpentine mead, berate their apprentices and slap the trade into their skulls. It's where the anvils are made of graphite, the hammers are as true as rectangular marquee selections and the fires burn with the light of a thousand lensflares." --Jason Rainville

@prsnsweeney - i've been using masking tape that I've rubbed on carpet to pull the sticky off... I stopped into blick today to pick up some water colour mask... see if that's more moleskine friendly.

    @wooden mango - Thanks

Honestly, your drawings have a blocky quality to them. Is that an intentional stylization?

nice series here really diggin the biblical theme most of the compositions look really strong and i was just thinkin for the mask you could trace an outline of the on a sheet of paper kinda like a stencil then just reinforce it with a backing so no bleeding through occurs then just anchor it in place with a small peice of tape ... just an idea have no idea if it would work any way really cool stuff especially thing 47 and 49
