Awesome style you got there, and since its a cartoonish-style i do not know what exactly what could be better, but i do think the outlines of the images is really heavy, maybe you could try to use the outlines to get a more 3-dimensional feel to it? Like linewight i think its called. But then again, it is your style and its awesome anyways

Keep up the good work! Looking forward to see more

    raminafshari, Thanks!

Olav, I'm still playing with line weight and shading to find where I want to be. Thanks!

Going to start a series of sketches based on a theme...

    "Bad Habits"
    Profiles of the Templar Nuns.

Haven't decided what to do with the background on Sister Cho here. But I bet it'll be all gothic.

I'm really hating this render of Mae. The more I work on it the more I think I "Leifeilded" her backbone.

So I decided I hate this pose so much that I couldn't bring myself to do a background for it. So as not to waste paper I just filled in the negative space with variants on her face... trying to find one I like. I think I'm leaning toward the upper right... like the wider face.

    Portrait practice.

For me there's nothing quite as discouraging as being reminded how very much I suck at drawing portraits.

I'm not trying to fit so much as recognizing where my fundamentals need work. Gotta stretch to grow.

Yet another round of Mae Hyaeng face trials. I'm getting really close to having the character. Maybe one more sheet with expressions...

Not the best resolution... as I took it with my smartphone. Will scan and property photo-process when I get home.

Great sb dude, your style reminds me slightly of AustenFM from this site. These portraits are going well, one way in which I improved a lot whilst learning proportions was to do 100 60 second portraits. Different genders, races, expressions etc etc, but make sure they are just a minute each and you do lots!

Hope that helps, I still do that exercise often

Thats a great tip Thomas. I'll probably have to make it 50/30 given my schedule though.

wow mate, seriously loving all your work! the way you use blank areas of shade as opposed to gradient shading is mind blowing! love it!

A second version of the Rogue Trader (that had an unfortunate accident with masking tape during the splatter process which means they'll likely be a third version).
aha! i have a tip for this, if you are working on any peice of work and there is no way you can avoid the use of masking tape, what you should do is to stick it to your trouser leg for a second, it removes some of the stickyness, reducing the chance of paper rippage, while keeping enough stickyness to do the job you need (so you can splatter etc..). this works especially well on paint. you might already know this ofc, considering the fact that you have kids, which means you are definately older than me and (obviously) have more experience than i do :P

Arbitrator Rhysara Naran and Shrine World Arbitrator Jenning Chase are the only ones i dont like, but that is personal preferance, not your skills ^^ and Corrine of the Adeptus Sororitas has small boobs :(

oh and one last thing, i think you are drawing your full size bolters too big, being WH40k lore nerd, i just had to say it... i think, mabye, in future, scale them bown to like 0.8 of what they are? this is just me and my opinion, no insults intended :)

Thanks. I've always been a huge fan of negative space.

Actually I use carpet for this. But pretty much the same technique. The problem here seemed to be less the tape and more the quality of compression in the moleskine page. Post-moisture the top layer just didn't want to stick to the ply beneath.

Not a boob man. Never have been. Quality trumps quantity every time.

In the pantheon of artists who work for 40K there is such an incredibly inconsistent standard for rendering bolters that it's hard to know what the "right" size should be. Look at a mini and the bolter is length of a Space Marine's entire torso.

I'm definitely not consistent in my bolter sizing either. I tend to go with whatever balances the drawing. And of course many of the guns I've drawn lately are using forced perspective which makes them seem even larger.
