Glad to see you're kicking your own ass again to get a SB, and move out. The sketches are looking great, the digis def need some work, but i like that you observe and interpret with your own imagination, i need to do a little of that myself.

keep up the variety you've got going on, and good luck on moving day when it finally comes!

    ...the imperfections make it interesting...

Nice lighthouse environment, clean and easy to read. Congrats on the job. I'm trying to learn a bit of flash animation myself. CS 5 Flash crashes a lot though.

Love this linework, interesting stuff. That Ctulu is too cool, lets see that thing painted, .

My only suggestion, and I hate to make crits cause your so good, but I think a little more time on your darks and lights sepperation would make these even stronger. Just think in terms of a light side and a dark shadow side of a form and if you exaggerate the seperation it makes it even more dramatic. Bear with me, because this is something i'm focusing on in my own work, so its on my mind... I try to imagine the sun(or a light) somewhere in my picture and how it would light my subject. Good lighting picture studies help.

Anyways I'm rambling, take it as you will, your work is awsome, keep it Up!

You, sir, have become a bad ass. I usually have some long winded critique, but you're wearing my eagle eyed fault finding to the quick.

Maybe more figures interacting within and with each other in an environment? Seems the studies tend towards separating them, could be a good obstacle, I suppose?

Dope Fiend: Thanks for the encouragement.

    kingkostas: Cheers matey.

Pigeonkill: Flash crash induced rage is a common occurrence at my workplace.

    fionkell: Cheers bra!

brentos8: Thanks. I often don't bother about having a distinct light source in my sketches, that would be something I tackle if I decide further refine it, but you are still correct, I need to do it more.

That fat kid: Ha. Even without a long winded critique you still manage to hit it on the head. Putting people in an environment is definitely something that scares me. I kind of made starting attempt at it with that study from a couple of updates ago. Thanks!

Getting a bit slack with the sketching, again, but haven't totally been wasting my time as I've started learning 3D modelling.
Not exactly 'sketchbook' material, but here's are a couple of beginning attempts at modelling and lighting. Not much texturing/material creation just yet.

    Heya,

Totally unrelated to your sketchbook, I just got Portal 2 for ps3 and it amuses me no end to see your companion cube.

The 3d models look pretty good, given my complete lack of experience with the process. You best have some environments coming soon. With figures.
You've inspired me to rant in my own sketchbook, so be wary. I may be banned soon.

Let's see an update, you [generic racial slur based on country of origin]!

I agree with That fat kid, you can do whatever you want with your sketch book. I wouldn't mind seeing more 3d samples either. What program are you using?

So.... Yeah, stopped updating again. *sigh*
I will be making an effort to update lots in the coming months, since my job is coming to an end and I'm really gonna have to haul ass to get a real portfolio out, for real this time.

Andrew: Thanks friend. I see you've delivered on your promise of rants. Keep em' coming! (and the pictures)

PK: Hey mate, I'm using a fairly old version of 3DS max, 8 or something.

monstertree: Thanks bud. I do want to finish it... just not really sure how. =\

    Daniel Hurd: Thanks and welcome.

    Fellow NZ'er!

Your studies are looking great, what were you referencing when you did those back studies? All of those characters in your last post are looking boss.

I'm liking the character in the top right sketches. Very original. Showing off the skills in the figures department as well this update. Would love to see a character sheet!

he looks pretty solid not sure of the back leg (his right) tho, could be a bit more curved inwards from the shin down. Also the thigh on it looks just a bit to small. Nit picking really as I feel the pose is working pretty well

The technological rectangles seem small and don't complement the buffness of the figure.

good stuffff man! BSG is fucking awesome.
with the face studies and studies in general, i´d recommend that you make that extra effort, to really nail the likeness and construction.
just be patient and let it take some extra time.
a good tip is to look at the drawings in a mirror as well.

Only time for a brief visit now... but will return very soon and give you some more (you have 20 dang pages to go through )

Lookin really good, though, through the last two. Seems like you've made some serious advances in skill.

Okay... phew! 20 pages later... and scene.

A very nice ride, made all the sweeter when I see the difference and much greater confidence you had after that major self doubting in the middle of the thread. It just goes to show that if you keep at "this stuff", you certainly do get better.

I've often felt a lot like you did, where you where you lost all objectivity about your stuff, and wondered if that was as good as you could get--where you just wondered if being mediocre was okay, or if you were willing to live with that.

It was obvious in those stages that you could get better; so it's very satisfying to see just how much better you've gotten since then. Very inspiring and reassuring.

This one was very good, though it's from a while back... your imagination work is interesting and getting much more expressive.

Keep it going. You can't spell epicenter of awesome without "epic" and you've certainly started one
