EXcuse me for saying this, but that's a mighty tough one. On another note: watching Marie-Antoinette might be good inspiration, at least fashion-wise.

So, did I understand this correctly: During or directly after the French Revolution, a formerly nobel lady is in grief over her son who has committed suicide? Man, that's loaded, but certainly tragic!

No no no, the kid ain't dead yet, he just wants to die. Think i may have a nice idea, but i'm not sure if it's right before heads started to roll or after. Or is that up to the participant.

dragon...I don' t know how picky Oblio is gonna be about the period costume, but you might wanna do a little research. this one is a very nice modified Victorian... maybe there's some time period stretch. I don't know

Yeah, costumes.org is pretty good about most periods. What I don't like about them is a lot of times they fail to cover all different classes for each period. There is a shortage of images of the period costume of an average joe or even a poor peasant for this particular era. Anyway, glad you posted that, Oblio.

Just curious "she used to be a noble" what is she now? Would she still be wearing fancy clothes or would she look more like a peasant?

The good thing about costuming for this period is that not much went on in fashion during the French Revolution. Everything that people were wearing before pretty much stayed the same until a little while after so that's a pretty broad window of time to snatch and grab ideas from.

I've got a book some may wanna go out and grab if stuff like this ever comes up and the internet comes up short "The Historical Encyclopedia of Costume" by Albert Racinet. Covers freakin' everything I've ever needed it for. Best dumpster diving find ever.

Destinatus I imagine that she would maintain her haughty air. Perhaps her fancy clothes are dingy and tattered, patched in places maybe or hanging there as a reminder of what she once was while she laments her existence.

The only thing that's tweaking my brain in including in this is the kid aspect, I have some ideas but holy freakin' hell it's irritating.

here is what i have so far...sketched this during work so it's a little iffy ^^

i'll be adding more embellishments to her clothing to make it look more fancy and raggedy...basically an ex-noblewoman sitting on the streets fingering her pearls and smoking one of those long opium pipes...below her will be her kid looking off into the distance. i might change her expression to be more nervous and wild. the whole scene will be hot and miserable and dirty. and thennnnnnnn i'll color it ^^ if i just finish the sketch i'll be happy.

Folks, I decided to pull my entry. I want to focus on the current creature thread. They have more people participating there, thus it's more fun. Maybe next time though.

hp: Good sketch! I like her facial expression. Looking forward to seeing it colored.

Here's my WIP... I'll have a colored version by sunday. Still got stuff to do before I jump into colors.

    CHOW#30 - Most Unfortunate Lady

"Life was hard enough during the revolution, but it would have been bearable if she didn't have to cope with her son dealing with his depressions and continually escalating violence towards himself.
At first she thought it might merely be a reaction to the situation around them, but it became apparent that it was more deep rooted than that after he started hurting himself, claiming that god hated him and he wanted to be rid of this life.

Clutching her sons suicide note in her hand, she stumbles through the night fog in search of her son, not knowing if she wishes to find him dead and free of his misery or alive so she might try to help him out of the pit of his suffering."

oh btw...the costume i took was the later french revolution when things became much more simplified and the romanesque look was in.

yeahhhh i wish some more ppl would join cuz my comp still isn't together in one piece...

i really don't think dropping out cuz "there aren't enough ppl" is really helping the problem either...

dcept, i think maybe you should just work a little on the hair since you're done...right now it looks kind too much like cotton candy, all in one piece...maybe just add a few strands here and there for definition.

well, i did a color version, and this version, which i think captures the more vintage look and feel of the concept....although im leary of putting up an uncolored for the final. any way, here goes.
    CHOW#30 - Most Unfortunate Lady

This unfortunate old lady (albeit, a hot old lady..depending on the eye of the beholder), bore a monstrosity of a child. He never comes out for fear of being burned at the steak. countless times he has tried to kill himself, but his lack of eyes due to his disfigured birth has crippled him of even suicide. Perhaps mother finally understands that its time to give him a hand.
