Hey that looks great so far dude. The rendering so far is really looking nice. I agree with archipelago too, but its coming along nicely.
archi-thankies for the crit, think its better now ish,
first couple of sb pages now with rushed SP! , not great really but working on the big piece so not much time for study-
And more work on the big one (photos are still abit shoddy)
Hey bro, that larger pencil piece is really coming along. The rendering looks really great like i said before. With your SPs, maybe try different angles/"styles" etc, because at the moment, most of them look just about the same. Would be awesome to see some variation man. Keep rockin.
haha, too right jake, im so lazy with the SPs its not even funny. Will resolve to do better thanks!
couple of pages practicing heads (needed a break from rendering that damn a2pic)
Good stuff man !
The lines are nice and clean.
though i think changing a tiny bit the shapes of the facial features would make them a bit more interesting =)
Keep working !
hey thanks recursive, I will try, still trying to get the basic features working though D:
heres some sb stuff
sp, will try make these more interesting :F
some pen stuff, just trying something different
Heres a quache experiment (i have no idea what im doing but figured i just need to start somewhere), gonna start doing more colour work (and pencil ) ive done some more studies but i cant be bothered uploading them now, i need to work more on the melting skull!
On the plus side (for anyone who cares) im in a great mood, really feel like i want to draw and paint the rest of my life away! gonna buy a tablet in the next few days and try branch out even more, i freaking love art with all this good mood going around im pretty sure ill wind uip in a slump soon but hey, we shall see!
thanks for everyone takes time to post a comment i really appreciate the support/opinions/critique i get here, i just wish i got more
cheers!- oh and sorry if I havnt gotten roung to peoples SBs, im gonna take more time to browse threads... so many good ones
hey ! good stuff man !
i like the way the thoughts are visible on the pages. thinking lines
keep on working and good luck ! Play around with other media

great man! im starting to do colour now too
atm I dont think theres anything to crit, just keep doing what you are doing and you will see improvement like a mofucka
I know Ive been bugging you about this but I cant stress it enough, draw from life!! If you need ideas, do a still life of anything that has nice lines and shapes for you to practice the mode of thinking on, fruit is pretty good practice if you get alot of them out (though they can be abit boring to render), more hands like you posted there (those a pretty good actualy) A cast would be super duper if you could find one and if its cheap... you really do need to learn how to draw from life acuratly, or else you will not be able to interpret it through imagination!
I know you are a bit clogged up with school work though which is really a shame You might even consider cutting down imagination sketches for a little bit to work on drawing from life...
Thats my opinion anyway, glad you are feeling good about art Im working stuff out myself and might not post for a while but yarrr keep it up, we should totally share our colour discoveries later man

woot, big dawgs
hurricane-thanks alot for stopping by, and thanks for the support-its great to here from people that find inspiring and its what i find amazing about this place is i get to both view and be viewed by pros, very humbling for a pup like me!
mentler- yeah! cheers mentler, i need to consult those threads of yours more, glad you found time to visit-it means alot!
archi-yo! I know I need to draw more from life, Ill try fit more in-but hopefully I'll really hit it up after i finish abit more school stuff which is whats eating up my time atm. Gonna try to find a cast, thanks man ill talk to ya soon!
well not a whole heap of pages tonight- update on the skull sometime soon though basically i just spent the afternoon working on that plus these weak pages - just some study, a 10min SP and some quache still life (that will come in abit-they arnt scanning well so i will form a new plan lol!)
Hey man. i like the face on the 2nd page, really good progress. I cant wait to see the gouache stuff. Pencils are really making some good progress and your rendering is getting nice.
heres (badly scanned-next time photos >;/) the first little warm up pear, then a much longer still life... let the quest begin! will do more of these....
Looking sweet, made some awesome improvement especially in the painting department, the pears look kickass!
Watch that the shadows dont get too muddy, a tiny hint of colour at the edges would help i think.
Pencil work is improving as well, push the contrast on the rendered pieces. Your lines are good and confident, keep studying anatomy to give them more structure and form.
cheers sock! love the tips/crits man, thanks alot Tried to do a quache still life of eggs tonight-bad call, i was tired and damn eggs were harder than i thought, have not scanned will work more on them tomorrow D: any tips on matching the colour would be rad though
bleh, some evening sketchery not really happy with any of this either lol- bit bummed out about trying to pain those damn eggs ><
thanks, better updates tomorrow lol
heyo, some sb rubbish, been busy with school shiz, winding up soon though
one from photo, one from life
more hocus pocus
should be posting up the school stuff in the next couple of days till then ...cheerio!
Goodo! Will do a better post later, about to get to sleep bro
Hey spade !!
Good updates. And i agree that the paintings look nice.
About the pencil work, i think a good method for shading might help you:
I do this type of landmarks (?) often if i prefer going as far as possible with the lines first.
Keep working hard !!
nice man Recursive_End speaks the truth aswell, draw in shapes and contours , map in the shadows and mesure how they relate... It is through these shapes that you will get a likeness of your subject. Its not really a matter of "im drawing these lips too small and the eyes too big" (altough maybe a little) its more like "the top of the lips form a shape with the bottom of the nose, but mine is a little bit off" or whatever... lol I know I tell you this in basicly everypost but when I was learning this I had no idea wth drawing from life actually was so I wasted heaps of time doing it the wrong way (although, you can ofcourse argue that by doing it the wrong way you learn from your mistakes)
lol I dunno Im starting to ramble now but LOL CYA!!
Conclusion: draw shapes dangit! like every shape you see!
jake-hehe thanks man
recursive-good link! yeah i need to push my linework more :o thanks alot dude!
Greensock- hola! good tip, will do some experimenting
archi- HAHA, good tips man-i love your rambles
so heres some sketchy stuff from today, gotta take some photos of finished school stuff for tonight, so ill post that later
the first few pics i doodled in class, hence the shitty paper.
hmm my figure is so weak atm, gonna start working on it
well thats alot of mumbo jumbo, get a break from school after today so ill try and : draw more from life, do more study and work out some of this stuff eh thanks guys!
Here it is! my major peices from school this session
first up, the finished skull pic:
A series on "self"
and that canvas peice from waaay back
heres a quick imagination sketch to bumb this back up lol, nothing amazing-im such a good mood from finishing school stuff that i might draw all night lol!
ah well, i guess ill have to work even harder for more views/comments
ps. how do i change the title of my thread?
very good work
I have nothing to say on the quantity of your work. Keep that up.
The last one is good, the darks add alot of depth. But the mid tones don't do the transition pretty well to the lights. Work a bit more on your planes, and make the mids vary a bit more. Avoid shading for the sake of shading, define more the form.
Keep working hard !!
recursive- thanks for pulling me up on that, i do sometimes render for the sake of it but i always forget when i start a new pic lol, thanks man!
matsign- good crits over in the ff section, thanks very much for the support
quicky: sp, some study, various mumbo jumbo and still life
looking back at your first posts its interesting to see how you have learnt more control over your pencil skills, and the lines you place down are more effective now. Keep studying as much as you are now, even more if you can, and by page 5 you will have learned a lot more.
appreciate the words prophet
soo, its been a few days. Ive been trying to draw alot more from life, attempting to get the observational skills happening. Not doing enough figure work, will fix that though. Had a wierd slump for a day or so... nothing amazing heh
aaanyway updates, can not be bothered scanning all the stuff (mostly rubbish lol) so heres some shiz mostly from today, mostly from life some imagination doodles also though
hm some of those are abit small, bleh... later dudes
keep working like this for awhile! imo its what you need most... What I found really helpful was doing longer studies everyday, spend more than an hour on one still life, it makes you notice problems and finding ways to fix them much more than with a shorter one... anyway, keep it up
