Here's another speedy. I did this one over lunch... just practicing colors, brushes, etc.

Here's another quick speedy done over lunch. It started with me messing with brushes... then i had to sort of finish it.

Hey dude, good stuff in here. Do you do much environment work from observation? I'd kill to be in San Diego right now doing landscapes or scenes. Looks like you're n a good track with your figure work as well. Good Stuff.

The image from post #662 is so great. Love the reddish shadow colors and how the dune(?)/hill fades off to the sky. Now post more

I like the mixup of sketchyness and renderedness in the enviro. I think it makes i alot more interesting to the viewer. The colour choice is pleasing.

Thanks for the comments zeldageek and camsyko. I really appreciate it.

Here are some minor updates to the earlier version of the tropical paradise a few posts up. The rocks off in the distance and the tree up close got a little attention. I also added in a fishing boat which is the requirement for this week's environment of the week and it is of course in full size resolution.

Nice works!! On page 10-12 there is some thumbnail techniques called androids or something, where can I learn more about this?? Looks really cool and I see some crazy things when I look at the thumbnails (and what brushes did you use for it?)

Man...the environments you're posting now are miles beyond what you were doing at the beginning of this thread. Really looking forward to setting aside some time to look through the whole thing to see the progression. Your lunchtime speed paintings are among my favorites! Great work.

I really love all the enviros you're starting to throw out. But just to toss it up a bit, draw a figure in the foreground Focus a character with one of these great enviros in the back

haha, i've looked at that tree about six different times and thought the same thing. I may go back and fix it, but it's better left there as a beacon or reminder in future drawings/paintings not to make similar mistakes. But yeah, i couldn't agree more. Maybe saturday or sunday we can figure something out. i'll deliberately not make plans for those days so we can maybe hang out and draw or somethin.

Also, to those who care, more updates to this sketchbook are coming. I just have been busy drawin at work and have to squeeze in paintings in my offtime. but i havent forgotten about this book. Im just waiting for a good environment or creature of the week topic.

(p.s- the self bump to the top wasn't my intentions with this post...)

(p.p.s- I may get to post a huge, massive dump from work soon. )

The tree on this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1233871770) makes me practically ooze joy. You're making leaps of improvement and I fucking looooove watching it, man. It's inspiring. =) 5 stars and a subscription so I can keep track of the awesomeness.

Alextooth - Thanks, i'm glad that some of my stuff inspires and i am more than happy to share

Jedininjaman - Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, i lean toward more saturated colors in some areas of my paintings. I could draw more toned down colors... but it's just not my thing. The color is there, so i figure i might as well push it a little.

Bill - Honestly, i rarely draw from observation except the figure drawing classes i'll take from time to time. I've sketched landscapes from life before, but am kind of forced to using pencil, cause i havent invested in a good oil paints set or anything like that so i can paint from life. I consider myself more of a painter than a sketcher too, so i guess what i'm saying is, i could get an oil paint set and paint from life, but i don't. It's definitely an area i could improve, but havent yet. 98% of the stuff in my sketchbook is from my head, using reference here and there where it feels needed.

Juhani Jokinen - Thanks! much appreciated.

Chermilla - Thanks, yeah i wish i could post more often.

AiRaGe - Thanks! I'll try posting more often. There will definitely be more desert paintings like the one you mentioned. Something about deserts is cool, to me.

    Jimmiegrunde - Thanks!

zelda_geek - Thanks. I have another lunch painting for ya, haha.

CamSyko - Thankyou very much. That's sort of the look i like. I prefer a sketchy look with implied detail rather than something uber rendered. Just personal preference i guess... though i do fall in the pitfall of over rendering sometimes without knowing it. usually when i do characters...

WhiteC- Thanks! sparth is one of my favorites.

James Wolf - Thanks, yea something about the composition was buggin me. I hope you didn't mind the extensive critique. I think i was feeling more talkative than usual when i left that crit.

    DeeLock - Thankyou.

    Bharat - Gracias!

My57- Thanks. I'll really try and post more. I mentioned it a few posts up, soon i'll be able to dump a ton of stuff i havent been able to up to this point, but not yet. I've been busy, but hopefully will get the chance for more at-home stuff.

Alpha moth - There's actually a video in the massive black videos area that tells exactly what i'm talking about. It's something like 15 bucks but is totally worth it!

Thedarkcloak - Thanks for stopping by, i'll definitely be keepin it up.

    Skullbeast - Thankyou very much.

IanE - Thanks for the stars and for the kind words. I'll definitely keep at it.

Courtyard - Thats a big compliment, thanks! yea, the idea in the back of my mind when i made this sketchbook was to track my progress, keep at it, and try to improve. It sounds like it's starting to show some change, and it's good to hear. Another lunchtime painting is below. I'll try and do more.

RichKid - Thanks for stopping by my SB. We'll definitely have to get together and paint sometime. I've got to get photoshop back on my laptop again, but after that i'll be g2g. It'd be awesome to get some coffee shop sketchiness goin on again and share ideas and photoshop trix.

BlazeF - Yeah, the characters are my achilles heel. Well, not really, if i put my mind to them i can do decent. But usually by the time i finish an environment i'd rather just scratch something in and be done with it than render in a character. Laziness on my part totally, but definitely an area to be aware of that i could improve. Thanks for the crit, i always always always like a crit.

    Klungsama- Thanks!

Mock - I commented back on your sketchbook, but thanks for props and the stars. I'll hopefully get to doing more lunch speedpaintings like that one soon.

AsaB - haha, thanks! another environment on the way for ya

Finally an update! It's just a lunchtime speedpainting, but i figured my sketchbook had been far too neglected to not post something up. Hopefully more lunch speedies are to come. This one was about 20-25min, photoshop and is some scifi-ish desert place, with transparent rocks, and... well it doesn't need a description, here it is:
