Yeah, I read this article earlier today, it sounds pretty interesting!
Probably a long way off from getting anywhere near it technologically though, even if the mathematics and physics check out.

Also, it reminded me of the travesty that was James Bond's car in "Die Another Day" ... gah

Interesting indeed. I tend to believe that any technology that they talk about now, has really been discovered or invented decades ago. The government has any number of secret projects going at once, and things like Area 51 are just the tip of the iceburg. For all the public knows, there are already colonies on Mars, the Moon, and technology is being used that was given to us by extra-terrestrials long ago. The government knows we are easy to control, and are content with having new electronic toys to play with every couple months. IPODs, Playstations, new gizmos in the new cars, etc.

Cloaking Device, cool indeed. Who knows, maybe it is not far off, maybe it has been around since before WWII.

Uhm. Those products you listed are made by private companies, not by "the government". Are you saying that Sony and Apple are controlled by the american government?

People should know better, corporations are way more powerfull than some countrys , if Microsoft had an army, they could take over ( maybe they do ...or maybe they already took over the world and nobody noticed)

The U.S army also works with independent contractors to develop new technologies, the fact that some might be secret is not entirelly delusional, becuase in the bussines of technology development, is better to keep things secret.....

As for other cloacking devices, the Japanese are also developing an invisible cloak ( not a cloacking device, but close)...All though their idea seems to be uneffective for things like warfare, etc.

Let´s see how it goes .

Conspiratorial thinking doesn't recognize categories like "companies" and "governments." Judging from your avatar, you're obviously one of them anyway .

Hehe How perceptive of you. The Illuminati owns you all. The New World Order is coming soon, and the reptiles are taking over.
Seriously though, anyone into this kind of thinking should check out Robert Anton Wilson. He's a really great and funny writer on these matters, among others.

Ah neat. Exotic optics! Not really a device but anyhow... There's actually a group that does research in this kind of field at the research school of chemistry at ANU, developing materials with negative indices of refraction and the like - fascinating stuff. Here's a good primer:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_refractive_index

A seemingly semantically related field of research is in auxetic materials, i.e. materials with a negative poisson's ratio, i.e. if you grab two ends of the material and stretch the material will get wider in the middle

Oh and wink wink nudge nudge some people around here really need to learn how the 'scientific establishment' works.

Nah this is refracting all incident light around an object via very carefully designed lensing with metamaterials. Read the wiki link it's a good read.

I saw something similar in the news 2 years ago.. they made ppl invisible with reflections or whatever it was, cant remember clearly but the project was in asia and the objects would have to stand still to make it work. anyway it looked very B.. but I can imagine they have come a long way since then.
