    concept:
    rattus bicephalic
The rattus bicephalic, or two-headed rat came about as the major folly of a genetics research company. It was found that rats exposed to a precise cocktail of bio-hazardous chemicals were more likely to be born bicephalic with a low rate of death and other disorders.
Scientists took the mutation as an opportunity to study the effects of experimental drugs on neurological deficits. Two heads for the price of one! The rats proved successful in many areas of research.
However continued breeding eventually lead to other mutations. Rather than weakening the line, the rats grew stronger and more aggressive.
Unbeknownst to authorities some two-headed creatures escaped to thrive in local landfills, growing larger and stronger with each generation. What's worse is that by feeding on organic waste, two-headers became a sesspool of disease. By the time the monsters were discovered, they were not just huge, but any human contacting them ran a high risk of contracting any of the numerous resistant diseases they likely carried. Authorities have not yet found an ideal way of dealing with them... thankfully, two-headers seem content to stay in the sanctioned biohazard areas.
Also the males have huge balls...

    concept:
    Plated Ferravore
These gigantic, worm-like creatures survive on various metallic minerals, but primarily require a diet rich in iron. As such, they commonly reside in junkyards, dumps and the like, where processed metals are abundant.
The constant supply of iron is necessary to maintain a healthy rate of growth and self-maintenance. Ingested metals are smelted and distributed through extremely hot internal organs and passages, seeping out through the back and head to solidify as plated metal armour.
    In reference to the diagram:
    1. Crushed scrap enters throat
    2. Materials reach a pulsating organ which mixes everything with extreme turbulence. Heat is induced through friction and rapid circulation of blood around the organ.
    3. Superheated, liquified scraps pass through for further filtration
    4. Metals siphoned to the upper body surface of the Ferravore, where they will be distributed by a complex network of vessels. Waste materials separated and digestion continues

    artist: Eriboss
    concept:

DONG - the church bell strikes, breaking the sticky silence of Agginsmouth, with its echoic metallic cry
DONG it strikes again cold and eerie across the morning air. Birds squawk and fight.
DONG again it cries, this time louder and coupled with a terrible stench...
A relentless thundering rumble shakes the sleepy village to its very core - as if the devil himself had climbed up from the black fiery kingdom of hell and danced his merry dance upon the pathways and ports, rooftops and rafters.
This sound was not welcome at all.
The Crashing increases in both volume and tempo, and there - through the thick hazy sunlight, the perpetrator reveals himself, covered in archaic remnants of a thousand years, clanging an oblivious clang from the church bell and steeple embedded in its head.
These giant beasts, named in fables as Trash-gargantuans, due to the ever growing amount of collected debris and rubbish stuck to their bodies, were said to have lived in the dark valleys, thousands of years ago. Every hundred years or so they would appear, bursting forth from the ground, in which they had laid dormant, hibernated without detection for all this time, and clamber through the hills, taking anything in their path with them...
They would journey to another spot, one of some secret significance, dig themselves a giant hole and lay themselves down to sleep... Anyone or thing that was unlucky enough to be caught up in the journey could use this time to get out because soon, these giant monsters would let out an almighty roar - shaking the rocks and earth around them so hard it would fall down on top of them, covering them (and anything attached to them) up, for another hundred years or so - until they decide to rise up once again for this baffling desctructive ritual.

    Giant TrashSquid
Dorment for millions of years, the Giant TrashSquid has awaken to clean up the poisons killing the planet and disrupting the circle of life.

    artist: fuuryoku
    concept:
    Midden Bloat (living trash refinery)
Envirotech, The corporation that holds the patents on these critters, won't say where they got them. Could be an alien life form for all anyone outside the corp or the EPA knows. But they crow all day in the press releases about what the bloats do. Heralded by the PR flacks as the answer to a fuel starved world's woes, The bloats turn trash into useful and profitable materials. Apparently, the big suckers have a digestive system from hell, and can eat anything that they can fit in their gullet, then break it down into it's component substances. The corp contracts with the city governments to let the bloats graze of landfills all day and night, producing blobs of pureified metals, various gasses, and- most profitably- a hydrocarbon fluid that's only about a step away from light sweet crude. No nerve endings in the carapace, so the corp just builds the rest of the refining equipment right on the bloats' backs. Instant refinery.

    artist: Mitze
    concept:

Civilisation had expanding far beyond our own galaxy. As we expanded so did our waste, until it became unbearable. Scientists came up with a solution a microbe called ‘E411’ which was genetically engineered to devour anything from oil to nuclear waste. This was a minor success but the trast kept growing so a drastic measure was taken. Planet Khyber an uninhabited planet was chosen to be the garbage dump of the galaxy. Rubbish from all over was dropped there and most still contained the Microbe ‘E411’ but nothing was though of this as it was expected to die. But it didn’t it thrived due to the low gravity and the gas mix of the planets atmosphere. With unlimited supply of rubbish it grew to monstrous size and was dubbed the trash monster.

Hurrly the Garbage Picker was found frozen in an ice burg in antartica. He loves to eat trash, the scientific community is working on cloning Hurrly so that they can eliminate the world's trash problem. Isn't he cute?

    artist: carotello
    concept:
    The Compost Heap Terror
Scrutaria Belua, more commonly known as the compost heap terror dwells around the edges of areas where decaying food or plants lie. They are rare and rather timid, which makes them hard to spot. This is one of the few images of a specimen in action ever obtained.
With its many tentacles the compost heap terror drags itself and selects its food before gorging. Apple cores and rotting orange peels are favorites. Inside its mouth, certain chemicals speed up the process of decomposition, which cause the creature to reek, as it releases methane and carbon dioxide from the many orifices along its body.

    concept:
    Minimus Cockus
    a.k.a. "Trash Monsta"; "Geisha's Delight"
The Minimus Cockus is a little known creature who's natural habitat is the back alleys of China Town. While the creature is generally small (average of 7 cm) it grows as it feeds, as much as quadrupling in size. In response to it's astounding growth, the creature's metabolism attempts to counteract it's expansion and the Trash Monsta begins to vibrate, burning off excess calories and allowing it to return to it's normal size.
While it's origin is not fully known, it is clearly a magical creature most likely brought to existence by a very bored and messy witch. The creature can be domesticated, and is highly valued on the Chinese black market.

A giant beast is eating your trash and growing to the clouds, so time to junk that old station wagon before he mistakes it for lunch and your a goner. I present the Landfill Monster

    artist: Inga
    concept:

"Why the creature is named with an rather simple name, he totally deserves it, The Trash monster has totally eaten all our garbage! Our city had taken one of these creatures, just simple to get rid of all of our trashes. When it grew much larger than we, the city, would thought of, it had started to eat our houses, and sometime had some citizens as "dessert"... lucky, my family had escaped from of what was left of the city."
The arms around the body are long but sometimes, it uses it's long distance arms to be sure that it's "prey"(citizens for example) won't escape, but when its bored, it will simple eat everything around it.

    artist: Bruce Jensen
    concept:
    Hoover
Species entry 2983 from the Encyclopedea Exobiologica is commonly referred to by the common name of "HOOVERS". The exact origin of the name is unknown, but almost certainly of Terran origin. By employing a complex system of bellows and hollow chambers HOOVERS filter feed on the refuse that accumulate on their homeworld XO-12d. What appears to be a head is actually a large pre-filtering chamber. Dorsal vents expel the undigestible material.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: JakkaS
    concept:
    Tarraka
This species lives on the planet Garbagos. This planet is the place where work the biggest waste disposers. Almost 60% of the planet surface has been changed into the big landfill site. Tarraka were a scavenger race but now they search for food in a garbage. Food factory's waste are their main source of food. They also hunt for the people that are looking for any goods, food or valuable metals. Tarrakas live in the small groups that usually have up to two male leaders. They are territorial species. The most interesting thing in that species is that they have tails that grow through whole live. Scientists claim that Tarraka's tail can be 7 meters long. Of course, in the "natural" environment, they usually have one or two meters long tail. Why? This is simply. When males are fighting for the leadership of the group, they try to bite off opponent's tail. Young or weak individuals have very short tail and the strongest males have the longest in the group…

    concept:

There is a creature that lurks around in the Silver Clowds trailer park home which is in outskirts of the city. The park is surrounded by mounds of trash from people who drive in from the city to illegally dump their garbage. Residents there have seen this bohemoth in the middle of the night scavenging around the mounds of trash that lay all around the park.
It is beleived that the creature was once the pet potbelly pig of good old man Rupert. Rupert a long life resident, used to let the pig roam around the trailer park freely until one night he never returned. The old man soon past away from lonliness, a few months later around the time the nearby Chemical plant opened people started hearing the strang deep bellowing sounds of what people now call "Gort". It is said that the creature seams to be looking for something or someone as he roams around living off the trash all around the park.

"I have tracked the beast to a garbage dump outside of town. She seems attracted to glittering metals, and it is here that she has laid her brood. Perhaps she longs for the treasures lost in doomed Atlantis. Never, never should we have visited that accursed isle, nor profaned its silent castles with our instruments and cameras. Of the four wretched souls that blasted in the tomb-door of elder Kameldagon, I alone remain of sound, though fearful, mind. I am no champion, but I must stop this creature before the nightmare madness that it breeds spreads further in the minds of men…”

Described as being both hideous and beautiful, the Compost Angels have had a huge impact on the Earth Revitalization Project (ERP). A herd of them can transform a toxic battlefield, industrial disaster site, or garbage landfill wasteland into a highly fertile plain in just a few years. Organic matter, plastics, metals and alloys - all good eats for the compost angel. They are not considered to be aggressive, but their taste are non-discriminating. Many sleeping campers have been dragged to a grisly awakening by the powerful tendrils that the compost angels use to grasp morsels of food and feed their telescoping maw. They have no active means of self defense, but most predators do not consider them to be good eating because of their toxic nature, and strong stench. The reproduce asexually, by dividing into two after reaching a certain size. This adult angel -about eight feet in length - is in the early stages of reproductive division. The compost angels were fist encountered in Australia, twelve years after WWIV, happily chewing away at the remains of a demolished town. They are believed to a mutated cross breed of the slug and leech family. Although beneficial in many applications, the compost angel must be carfully monitored, lest it multiply uncontrolled and devour...everything.

    The Litter Bug
Created by Envcore as a cheaper way to clean up landfills, the Litter Bug is a large genetically maniputed caterpillar that doesn't reach it's final cycle as a moth. It has two prehensile tails in which it uses as arms to feed itself.
The voratious eaters were placed in land fills to consume the waste that has been building up for centuries. They multiplied rapidly and soon migrated into urban areas. At first they were a welcomed sight as the Litter Bugs disposed of the garbage strewn in alleys and gutters, but when food ran out they started eating everything else. Cities had to "round up" and funnel the Litterbugs back to the dumps so they could continue to the reduction process.

I voted silleK0ne because off his great concept and good rendering. Allthough i liked the pic more if he had more brighter colors.
Jakkas yours was great to again. I always like your colors and rendering!
Romance yours really great to as always, but think it looks a little empty because of all the white.

Great jobs and i wish i could have compeet but i have my last project for school and it is a lot off work.

i went with eriboss' entry. i think it's a great illustration, accompanied by an original story that is a nice departure from the tradional trash monster idea.

also - bruce jenson, jakkas, redehlert, romance, and carotello...good stuff!

From a visual perspective I would give it to JakkaS, beautyfully rendered, man!

From a conceptual view I would give it to Smitherines, have to smile everytime I look at that creature...

    But...

My vote goes to Eriboss... your entry has just "this special something", BIG TIME! Great job!

I voted for silikone. Nice render, and just overall a great idea. I love eriboss' concept as well, especially the character of it. Great job everyone, I am excited about seeing everyone's work in the future, as I will hopefully keep posting.

I voted for carotello because its slimyness and originality, I've never seen a design quite like this. Also, I chose it above others was the fact it followed the guidelines of non-human. A few of the other entries are great, but was minorly humanoid.

I love this thread ~ so much eye candy!!!

Was hard to pick a favorite but in the end I liked silliKONE, Eriboss, and Romance's creatures the best

~ also thought Jakkas, White Wolf, fuuryoko, cognition s.b, redehlert, Bruce Jenson & Cartello's creatures were excellent as well.

~ decided to vote for sillliKONE because it is so well rendered and interesting to look at, great colors & textures, looks like something I would see in a concept art book.

~ Really liked Eriboss's narrative descripition~hahaha!! Looks like you had alot of fun with this, also very interesting to look at, congrats

~ I thought Romance's creature had a really interesting & unique design, plus it's rendered so well - with the really soft lighting and whatnot, great job dude

silliKONe Gets my vote. Beautiful painting....colors are superb. I love the atmosphere you've established. the soft glow of other compost angels in the distance is so nicely done.
If I had another vote to give, Romance would get one too. Lovely, delicate sense of color and value demonstrated there.

Eriboss: Myo~ I love that slumping, bouncey, careless movement you captured in him. Also, there's a sense of innocence in his expression, which is quite cute - like a child in a playgound. Got my vote, dude.

silliKONe, White Wolf, carotello, Hoover, Mitze - beautiful work, guys.

A hard choice between Eriboss & SillikOne, both are excellent images with good concepts.

In the end Eriboss just clicked with me slightly more, a fine take on the category. A good colour selection and the motion is distinct and well represented.

It came down to between eriboss, cognition, sillikone, and carotello for me. Finally went with eriboss since there's a great sense of goofiness to his critter.

I vote Eriboss, for the style, colors and the movement, but mostly for the story behind it.
