Who or what is Justin Bailey?

As far as I know it's a code of some sort that refers to samus in the first metroid game, right?
Isn't it another name for samus or one of the programmers?
That's all I know...can someone inform me on the issue?

Btw, I ask cuz I just saw the video of someone finishing metroid(nes), and it brought back some nice memories.

    speed runs link
There's a lot of games on that website with amazing speed runs.
One of my favorites is the contra(ps2) speed run.
If any of you have played that game, you know how hard it is.
This guy does it on hard with only three lives, check it out!

p.s prom, I know you know the answer to this...

shit man, some of those times are insane! Zelda 2 in 72 minutes! I remember going months on that. Castlevania 2 in under an hour blows me away. I also got a kick out of Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers: 14 minutes. I used to zip through that one before catching the school bus, though I think my time was more like half an hour. ah, NES...

but sorry, I have no answer to your question, Ink

edit: Marble Madness in 3:13?!?! Holy god, these kids are monsters of eye hand coordination!

She's just in a bailey, which is old slang for (full?) swimsuit I think.

Edit: Since I hacked the password system once I can give you this easy to enter code:
    000000 000020
    000000 000020

Note that 2 in binary is '10' so this password only sets one bit, which is the one telling the game she's supposed to be in the bailey. Then there's a second bit at the end of the password cuz the last byte is the password checksum (XOR probably), which incidently is the same as the bit above since all other bits have been left unset. I believe 'justinbailey' was a hardcoded password, so no checksum is used there. It's faster to enter my password.

Heehhe it wasn't hardcoded then. I remember entering my name and silly words as passwords, basically you can enter any string and just try all the checksum combination (last 2 characters (00 to 03 and 00 to -)). I always wanted to write my own password generator but never got around to it. The problem is that around the bit that sets Samus suit, there's some bits that will crash the game. You can try this by substituting the '20' for '3-' which sets all of the bits in the nasty place... and you'll get a nasty crash.

My old Metroid page can be find here. Has some blurb about the password system.

I didn't know the bailey word was made up though, if it is.

Managed to dig up these rumors on the net:
Some kid named Justin Bailey entered his name as a password and it worked, then sent it in to Nintendo power.
Nintendo power once stated Bailey actually means swimsuit in old english slang (unlikely to find in a normal dict). However, would japanese people know of the word? I can't find it in any net dictionary either.

    Edit: Just deviced
    WEARSW IMWEAR
------ ----3l (L) and got a code which is impossible to use since the Morph ball treasure has been removed

Beat me to it, Prom! Looks like someone else read their Nintendo Power cover to cover back in the day!

Might I offer this scantily clad code as well? You get to see Samus as a brunette (WOO!) in a purple leotard:

    999999 999999
    kkkkkk kkkkkk

It worked on the actual cart, hopefully it will on the ROM as well.

Green hair = Varia (inherited from last game you played)
Brown/red-ish hair = Her real haircolor, presumably similar to Ripley (Alien).
    Blonde/snotgreen hair = Missile mode

My avatar is poking fun at how Alien 1 has much in common with Metroid, the stripping part at the end being my favorite similarity (Ripley wears a green top and low white panties).

'for those who missed it, My version of Samus (slightly NSFW). I'm working on my own Metroid project again now...
