Angry gah.. blasted spyware infection :( [RESOLVED]

naughty me, i was looking for a keygen for a program, and did not choose my sites wisely. hence i have spyware. ive gotten rid of the mostpart, but some files are still lingering and i cant find/detect them.

ive got spybot and adaware, and have scanned whilst online and offline, found nothing sus, and yet i still have these icons pop up periodically in my taskbar:

gah.. blasted spyware infection :( [RESOLVED]gah.. blasted spyware infection :( [RESOLVED]

this is false, as ive scanned with the latest version of vet antivirus, and it came up clean. ive checked the processes and taskbar components, and couldnt find anything that resembled a bad file. heres a screen cap of what i have regardless, maybe your fresh eyes can work it out..?

gah.. blasted spyware infection :( [RESOLVED]gah.. blasted spyware infection :( [RESOLVED]

not only that, but ive got the dreaded about:blank thing happening. my default homepage is constantly changed back to about:blank as opposed to google (my weapon of choice). also, when opening a new browser window, it first comes up with this:

gah.. blasted spyware infection :( [RESOLVED]

    followed by this:

gah.. blasted spyware infection :( [RESOLVED]

any help, guys? im getting really annoyed and just want to go back to normal

    Cheap way:

Your PC is pretty much fucked now, you can patch it up forever and ever and the spyware will find his way in again .
Adware adds more spyware IMO, and is free and uneffective, specially when it comes to the mess you have in your hands right now.
    "format/c:" is the cheap solution.

    Other solution:

-BUY an anti-spyware software, I have "Webroot Spy sweeper" and it works great, it updates itslef againts all this incredible annoying spywares.

Maybe buying a software will make up for looking for a keygen .

    Follow these steps:

Cleaned my computer really damn well. Then if you still have problems, read how to post a HijackThis log to that board and they should help you.

The easiest option is just reformating though.

I had a simaliar problem as well. I used the Hijackthis method and looked for suspicious ip adresses in the list and delted them. And used cwshredder and then mcaffe antivirus(you can get it for free if you have comcast). Finally got rid of it. It was a serious bitch though. You may have to use cwshredder in safe mode though to get rid of the file correctly. Its funny how a virus will set your page to an anti-virus software company.

hijackthis works really well, i had a similar problem too, down to the part where i got it downloading keygens.

It got so bad at one part, that i deleted all the viruses/spyware/malware, with the help of hijackthis and some DOS nonsense, and reinstalled windows. because the viruses were now trying to attack a non-existant version of the operating system, i was able to wack em out lickety split. works like a charm, but only as a last resort.

thanks guys. used hijackthis and another proggy in safemode with internet DC'd, seems to have done the job. only now my desktop has been reduced to basic mod status, i.e. i can only use .bmp files as bg images and such. think the reg cleaner i used was a little too thorough

God I love using a mac. Photoshop, Painter work like magic. Not a single hack, virus, or spyware program in 10 years of programming, art, graphic design, web design, and software development.

    Poor PC users.
    This too shall pass.

Well its a matter at what the user looks for on the net. Looking for cracks, keygen. pornsites.....all that juicy stuff will get you in trouble.

Direzen-- Coughs Bullshit! - Viruses do happen on Macs, but very rare. That is because very few of them are written for the mac. True that pc's are easier to hack because of the well known vurnabilities which has been in practice for ages. Im sure if people hacked away at macs for years apples would be in the same shit hole. This maybe sooner than thought with apple switching to newer Intel chips.

Don't turn this into a PC vs Mac thread. You know they both have their uses.
