I am born & raised in Hawaii (Mililani Town w00T!! w00T!).
Hawaii seriously lacks an art vibe. There aren't any private art schools on the islands, and the only art programs it has are University courses (bleh!!).
The Wyland Gallery in Waikiki has some nice stuff by local painters. The scenery, beaches, and hot babes will inspire your artistic libido nonetheless.

Int take the bike ride up to the top of haleakala in the morning. If that doesnt make your creative juices flow then i dont know what will. Also, go snorkling, parasailing, or whatever...how long you got? Ive been to all the islands cept molokai, lanai, and ni ' i hau. They are all amazing in their own way...but kauai is my fav as it remains ( i still hope) less touristy and more organic.

there are a lot of small studios in chinatown/downtown area. most are free for walk in. If your here on the last or first friday of the month, one has open gallery/barhopping downtown, and the acadamey of arts museum brings in a dj (house) and some picnic table style bars.
Theres a great contemperary museum called "the contemperary musem" up in makiki heights, Nara just had an exhibit there.
the doris duke musem is a older collection but its unreal, millions and millions worth of stuff in a 20 million dollar beach front house turned museum.
If you like fish.... screw wylan, go diving instead. You are after all IN hawaii.
