    Captivating figures! Costumes are great!

    Just a thought...

Have you consider placing your combat figures into authentic stances. For example, awhile back you drew a (longbow) archer who would look great in a bow stance--not sure she could fire in the position she was in. Similar stances would give your broad sword characters a unique and dynamic look. Haven't see any artists doing it. You have the skill level to do it.

MattGamer: Yes! Let's have fun together! Drawing's gotta be fun! Hulaa!
SnobbyOo: Thanks very much, i always try to keep a rythym going, it's nice when people notice
Aryeh: I'm so very reminded of Friends right now ...
De Jakhals: I'll keep it coming allright!
raminshafari: Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
PHATandy: Well i suck at rendering stuff so it's kind of a status quo operation here. Still, thanks a lot!
    sylve: Thank you!
    surus: I will.
velocity kendall: Ahh, this old thing ...
qlotzan: That's cause i like to move it, move it.
pondman: It's actually not that easy to make up poses like that, they quickly come off as stiff, and you can get weird foreshortening. If you come upon some decent reference material, i'm always willing to give it a try tho
rena: Now i'm reminded of the B52's. Cool!

Anyhoo, not that much to show, except some more mediocre figure studies. Maybe i'll put up some lifedrawing next. See you all,

    S.

Thankyou for the kind words man, it really means a lot coming from you
absurdly fresh work as ever, no crits just drool
    gaaarrrrggghhh sooo sweeetttt

I cant agree about the Eva opener though haha. I just dont get it, all through the show theyre soundtracking with Bach and Beethoven, but they open with that gravitas-fucking jpop confection. dont understand
it makes convincing people to watch it impossible cos theyre all what the fuck is this shit at the start? and I have no answer for em hehehee

    rumpenstiltzkin: Love you too
Feil Magnus: Amazing's a little over the fence but still, thanks a lot!
Velocity: I know what you're saying, but all i can say is i think it's a catchy song, at least as this kind of song goes. You have to admit there's far worse blubber in the anime opener genre, right? Right?

Ok, update. Please pardon the lousy pics but the sketchbook is too big to fit the whole page under the scanner and my camera is a cheap piece of crap. And the level of drawing isn't all up to par either if you ask me. For the sake of completion i've also added the pics that went down the drain. Just to show that things don't always go the way you planned

Hey! Thx for that post in my sketchbook! The problem I have at the moment is, that I am workin on an application for a uni, that doesnt leave me time to take figure drawing classes, so I am kind of dependant on books and tutorials.
I have had some live drawing classes, I can post some of that stuff when I find the time.
I know I'm lacking some basics, and once that applications is done, I'm gonna start from the basics again!
Yeah, I know, airbrush... I used the technique Matt Kohr described in his ctrl+paint blog while using templayers. But I need to learn how to render using a hard round brush, that just does make everything look more solid!
    Thx for that crit!

Infinite sketches, make something finished yet!

They are great though. What about that Medusa and giant scorpion, haven't you watched the new Clash Of Titans recently? It was so crappy. Like the old one but at least it had cool monsters while the new ones was awful.

Tawnos: Hope you can get into uni and find the time again for some life drawing, it's a bunch of fun! As for the crit, thats just me acting important for the most part, but you still need build stuff up from the fundaments. Don't forget! (Here i go again ...)

Mydrim: Finished? ER, sometime maybe, i don't feel the need for it for now.
Didn't see either Clash of the Titans btw, but i'm a big Greek mythology fan. See some of the pics in this update

    Anyway, some doodlin' in PS.

You have posted so much i have to go by page:

22: lovely gestures as usual, i like the feather cloak girls. On the white robot, i think you lost the contrast between backround and character, darker backround could have give more silhouette contrast." I've been working on that robot, but it seems to be slipping away from me. Not sure if i can save it in the end. I'll really need a lot more studies to get something looking convincing in 3D. Oh well." I feel that in that robot you lost the forms, not 3d. You have more horizontal forms on the robot render than the original sketch. Also the silhouette did go more timid, on the sketch it has more angular, sharp edges what makes it read better/more stylish. (and also darker black lines on sketch gives it points of interest inside the robot shape. on render it is gone. you could have replaced those black lines with some kind of darker shape areas)

But you probably got this thing covered by now i think anyway...

23:I just LOVE how you finally tackle the clothes! kudos for that!
I also really like how you are starting to make visual illustration ideas in thumbnail form, make them work trough trying different angles and choose on for final sketch. (i should do this more i see)

Also good work on doing more finished characters. By this i mean more clean lines/ details. This is bound to pay off if you keep doing then and then more and more clear images

24: crazy amount of gestures in this page as well! i like the winged lady, really nice organic mechanical forms on that one! also the ghibli style adventurer girl is also lovely!

Overall you have raised the stakes again! i would love to see also more cleaner finished characters/illustrations in future! (but its your choise how tight you want to go)

I don't want to post replies without posting pics, so here's some doodles. As for the replies:

Rumpenstiltztkin: Thanks very much, but it's far from all mine tho. For instance I'm wondering why nobody's mentioned the similarity of that wing girl with a certain mecha pilot from a certain anime series

Nettle: Great to see you post again man, always love the thorough crits! Good analysis on the robot guy, i think i should try to find a way where the initial marks i lay out don't get buried under rendering and more and more double guessing. Really want to visit that design again in a more dynamic pose too, been thinking for a while to do a whole series. Glad you like the more detailed stuff, it's been fun to put more time in finishing things. Still, there too i feel like i should boil down things to the essence more. And also i should do something with all those thumbs :p

The Fez: Thanks! Now if only i could draw with skill too ...

Thanks dude, glad you like 'em.
