I like 'em, bu tI think you should flesh them out a lot more. The best one I thought was the crazy half black white guy. he was neat.

    And the word is sacreligious.

    Hi Hai !
It's necessary you watch out for the proportions of the personages. This that I you counsel, this is to draw the people that you see, of some to do full. If you take the bus or the train, do not hesitate. Personal, I takes the train everyday and I have the whole times my sketchbook with me But it is necessary that you continuous and never that you abandon in front of difficulty. If you find a hard thing, and well it's necessary to do it and insist until that you there arrive
    Keepin' posting !

C&C please to help me progress !

    --OLD STUFF--

    May 1. 2006 - "The journey begins"

    Whaddup people?
I guess I should introduce myself: I'm a 16 (soon 17 ) year old male norwegian. I'm attending "arts and crafts" and I'm almost done with one out of three years.
I've been kinda scared of posting here, 'cause of the high standards and whatnot, but I figured I'd better just shed my fears and get myself out there. Hopefully it'll help me get better at drawing and/or painting.

So, without further ado; the beginning of my epic journey:

(very sorry about the poor scan quality)

    Ok... Batman/angel thingy... mhm.

Orc girl - quite happy with the face in this one, thinking about developing this into a character... And yes, I know there's some *huge* anatomical errors in there, but focus on the face, yeah?
Greatly inspired by Fredrik K. T. Andersson's work, if anyone is familiar with him...

Here's a little something I did at school... Just a quick doodle in gouache.

Here I was trying some new tehcniques... Weird looking half white, half black dude... Yah, blue eyes.

*Warning* - A bit anti-religionistic. Can I say that? Religionistic? Anywho, it was late and I guess... Actually I have no idea where it came from...

Ok... So now I've thrown myself out there. Tell me what ya think.

    -------------------------------

    The Journey continues:

    *writes down sacreligious in glossary*

    Tef: Duly noted

Update: Finally got a Wacom! Hooray for me! (and for Wacom 'course...)

I learned how to use Guache this year too! Well, I'm still learning. I did alot of watercolour before so that affects the way my guache stuff looks. It's a fun medium though.

I like your girl that you drew although there are some major anatomy issues. Anatomy is something that will come to you through serious practice so if you really want to improve it, I hope you'll work hard.

Congrats on the Wacom! Aren't they awesome!?!
I agree with Tef, it's great practice to draw your surroundings and people, it helps you learn proportions quickly.

I hope you add some color to the tree too!

    "The journey goes on"

I'll just admit right now that RL studies is something I never do, except if we do it at school. I plan on changing that though. I guess it's necessary if I'm going to live off of this someday.

    Thanks for all the critique.

Here's the orc-girl again, plus some random stuff:

And my newest character: Christine S. Sade. Her name is actually an anagram of my own name. I'm pretty happy with this one. I think I'll colour this with watercolors, just bought some in tubes.

Looks pretty good, exept for some anatomy here and there. Christine has some troubels with her hands, for exaple, and female shoulders are smaller then the hips. But you have the expression on her face. I really like the gouache doodle.
I don't know if you have noticed already, but you tend to draw your figures in more or less the same angle and pose. It might be interesting to get refs for other poses and work from there.

Sorry for the lack of updates people! (not that the SSG is very active anyways)

Anywho, in the middle of a week-long "arts & crafts" exam right now.
I feel a little guilty for not doing more life-drawing, but I gotta upload what little art I've got to share.

Please disregard her right hand and her face, both have been redrawn in the photoshop version I'm not showing yet

My only complaint is more art, lol! Actually your stuff is really improving! I also like that you use a lot of mediums like gouache and acrylic. A few of the drawings remind me of Clive Barker's Abarat books! The newest piece is looking good, and I really want to see the Photoshop version. I only have a few suggestions: Some of the lines in the piece dont match up, like on the armor on the right leg. While sketching don't be afraid to draw and erase and draw and erase. Also, watch the feet since they are getting cut-off at the bottom of the page. It's tempting to not finish them or to neglect them. I'm horrid at feet, and I've done that many a time. Overall, it would be nice to see some drawing from reference, and maybe full bodies. Your getting better at the torso and head anatomy, so make sure you don't forget the rest of the body. Will come by and crit often ^_^

Ok Let's see if i can better that last useless comment from me and give you something useful. *S*

What everyone has already said about RL drawing will prove itself as soon you start doing it. You will notice, especially if you pay attention to that side of the skill, that your observational skills will improve and along with so will your drawing skill.

When it comes to your anatomy, while you are obviously still working on it, you add details to your bodies that it takes for ever for other people to notice, including myself, when they are starting out. i think that might be the benifit of school, something that i am very much hoping to do soon, never having done so in the past.

The othe rthing i notice is that while you are letting go and just putting down what come sot you, a great skill to practice, the other end of the scale i guess would be to try and only put down the lines that really need to be there (for example your explosion pic would be a great place to practice that).

Oh and when it comes to RL that is all about getting a new habit up and running, so you need to think about when you might like to do it and make yourself stick to it, otherwise you end up like me always carrying around a sketchbook and never using it.

Cheers man and let us see more!

    30th of July 2006:

Ok, so I'm back home and I've scanned what I can scan. My scanner, despite being reasonably new and not too shabby, is fucking some pictures up. Maybe I'm doing something wrong with the settings? I dont know. So I have a couple of sketches on earth-tone paper which the scanner really butchered, so I'll have to find some other way to load those up.

This is about half the sheets of paper I used while in Italy, but the others are either just outright bad or display more personal text, so I'm not showing those. Hopefully 14 images will be enough for ya

HAI if you are still having problems with your scanner can you post the steps you do in a little detail? that way we can get a little of an idea and might be able to help.

    1. I put the sheet in the scanner.
    2. I change the settings so that it goes to the PC instead of the photo card.
    3. I press ok.
    4. After I press ok, a window pops up on my screen. There I can choose between Epson Scan and Photoshop.
    5.
    a. I choose Epson Scan. I type the name of the document, which type of document (extension(this might be where I'm doing something wrong, can someone tell me what the optimum choise is here?)), where it should be placed etc. I press ok. I use the automatic mode, as I am clueless as to what the settings in "pro-mode" do. The result is... Really. Really. Bad.

    b. I choose Photoshop. Turns out, that's just Epson Scan on "pro-mode", so I changed it to Home mode and I got the best result so far, but it's still not "there".

WOW. that's a lot more steps then what i have to do to get it into phoshop. Since you can choose to senf it to photoshop maybe you can do it the way i do as well.
    1. go straight into photoshop>file>import>(your scanner)
    2. Choose color and a high res (because you can always go down but never up)
    3. Scan the area you want and it should pop up straight in ps.

See if that helps. If not do a little search on the web for your particular problem, and put your version of photoshop and your scanner into the search and see what comes up.

BTW i never told you that some of those drawings you did while you were on holidays just rock man. i especially like this one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1154282446

Update on my Demonica. Don't worry about that magic in her hand, it's just a very temporary solution.

[edit]: Just so you know, this is pretty much my first attempt at colour in PS, and I have no idea what I'm doing, or what I'm supposed to do. (Yes, I know, more excuses).
